I’ve recently found your channel, so I’m back watching. I’m a captain and live in Palm Beach, but have a summer home in Harbor Springs. Regardless of catching up on your channel, or being a late commer, you’re a great narrator and story teller. I am subscribed and am thumbs up! Thank you for sharing ✅😎🍷
Well done MV Slow Bells and her crew. Your videos are a tremendous resource for my research concerning your 2019 Great Loop and 2018 ICW experiences. Looking with anticipation to your future videos.
Sure glad to hear transmission issues are fixed and your back to motoring. Hearing about the Chicago river reminds me as a kid living in Hammond, Indiana. When we had the opportunity our family would go to the shore of the lake to play. I would always watch the boats and wonder where they may be heading. Thanks to you, I know some of those folks were heading down "The Great Loop"!! Safe travels and calm waters to you. Looking forward to the next update.
I did an interview on my channel with the captain on the SS Badger and filmed his docking procedure and how he uses the throttle through an engine order telegraph in the rear pilot house.
Kathy and I envy you the time you have to linger, and only travel when you want! (best conditions). Kathy is free and only anchored by me, I have 6 more years until retirement!
New Buffalo has a big marina also and high dollar boats filling it. If I were coming down Lake Michigan that's the same route I would have taken also. Did you follow the shore around the south end of the lake or take a bearing right to Navy Pier.
What prompted the choice of the paid Windfinder over the Windfinder Pro. I might be missing something, but I thought the one time cost would be better than a monthly subscription. Great videos. I’m learning a lot!
Diane Gallagher : I was impressed when neighbors showed me Windfinder on their cell phone. But, when I downloaded it, I didn't get the same thing. The biggest disappointment was that mine was not showing buoy reports. The differences turned out to be the paid vs the free version of the app. For me, the price was worth the buoy reports.
I saw two different apps. The free Windfinder with in-app purchases and Windfinder Pro for $7.99 that also said it had in-app purchases available. I just wasn’t sure which one you had. I really like the ability to read the buoys. In the spring I will be moving my boat (Bayfield 25) from the Pamlico Sound to Port Huron, Michigan. It will be finishing a trip my wife and I started a few years ago from Englewood, Florida. I hope to see you out on the water some day. 👍
@@duanegallagher1662 : I started with the free version, then later bought the Pro version so I could get buoy data. I recommend you consider doing the same. After all, the free version is "free".
Robert Jordan : We left Alton this morning and passed through St Louis. I was astounded by all the barge traffic around St Louis. Crazy! Tomorrow, we will finish up most but not all of the remaining distance to the Ohio River.
Did you get the opportunity to try Silver Beach Pizza while in St. Joe? By the way, the swing train bridge is the oldest still in operation today. Been a few times we got caught on the lake side when it had a small issue or two.
Have been watching your previous videos and I've got to ask.... Seattle boat guy, harbored in Norfolk, VA, wintering in Brunswick,Ga, flying an Iowa Bow flag,. If it was mentioned , I missed it, but what is your Iowa connection? I see the Iowa flag has been replaced by your white AGLCA burgee. Good luck on your adventure and earning your gold burgee! Thanks for taking us along!
Highlife 22: Born and raised in Iowa. Most recently, I retired from my job in Virginia. Spent the winter in Georgia so I could work on my boat without freezing. Soon to relocate back to Puget Sound.
@@seattleboatguy If you under a high pressure ridge, it's usually good, but watch out for the low pressure days. They don't call it the windy city by chance. Those west winds can really bring on the white caps.
Sometimes I look for the anchor symbol on my chart plotter or Active Captain. Other times I'll just look at the chart for a spot that is about the right depth and reasonably protected. But, more states seem to be creating laws about where you can and cannot anchor, so finding an anchoring spot could get harder in the future.

Lets go get some White Castles in Whiting.

Very cool!
Neat marina. Hope you made it to Dune Billies for breakfast! Good eats.
Thanks for the tip. I'll try to check it out.

I went from Michigan City directly to Chicago.

Did you make it down Illinois and to Alton yet? I can’t wait to see your next video!

seattleboatguy That is great! Be safe and stay warm... Looks like you will get to Kentucky Lake soon, before you know it you will be in the gulf!

Tony C : We ate at Zoop and the Mexican place next to Zoup, but that was about all we had time for. That swing bridge seems to get a lot of exercise.

Did you get off lake Michigan before the huge waves this week?
Jeff Bennett : Yes, I made it to Chicago on Columbus Day. I hope that lake is more user friendly in the summer than it seems to be in the fall.

Why would you have taken the Chicago River thru downtown Chicago instead of taking the Calumet River to the IL River?
You can certainly do either route, since they both join together after several miles. I thought it would be fun to boat through Chicago.
how much fuel do you burn and hour and what engines?
Ford American Diesel. 2.8 gph. 1500 rpm. 7.5 knots.
How do you go 3-4 days with a port-potty?
How do you know it’s a anchor area?
