Ive never understood why people pop up in comments on product videos just to say that they own the product. Anyway, ive got one of these and i use it sometimes.
This is my favorite guitar effect. I have a Peavey amp with the effect built in and i came here to see if I could get a richer effect out of a dedicated pedal. I will also play out of my PA and might need one anyway
thanks for the demo! I used to own an MXR Flanger which died on me years ago and I am finally missing it. This time around I think I'm gonna choose the Boss, if not only for the awesome gate effect. Cheers, mate!
I have 5 flangers. Among them are them are the BF-2 and BF-3. I personally love the versatility of the BF-3. It does a LOT and it's stereo. The sweep gets wild, reacts well to distortion and does airplanes well. The BF-2, on the other hand, is more powerful and has a richer sound but it's not stereo. And not nearly as versatile. They're BOTH good but I use the BF-3 more often.
Just bought the BF-3, it is great, the pan out to two amps is brilliant. No significant volume jump up (I read that the MXR Micro does). Why did Boss make the default power up of the BF-3 always on? I do not like that aspect.
True very true I’m still thinking about either telling Dunlop that they should bring back the original flange your double or rack back or I might get the MXR Flanger or the boss one
man, I was making a preset for this song and I remembered this video and I tried Flanger and it worked! I am very satisfied with the preset I ended up with. EDIT: I just followed the original recommendations and I tried Phaser and I got an even closer result. But it´s sort of almost the same procedure, it is fast and has its depth, and in the case of phaser you have resonance, so all that helps to get a REAL close sound.
It does, indeed! I'm a bass player and this is the flanger I have on my pedal board. Thanks for the interest! Kevin Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732, Kevin_Spunde@Sweetwater.com
Thank you Neil. A happy new year to you and your family as well! Daniel now goes by Daniela after the sex change, but I definately will pass on the word to her!
So in the mode where its off until you press in the pedal, if you press it in for more than 2 sec its goes into set tempo mode? Wouldn't that mess up the point of it if the note or passage you want to hold down the pedal for is longer than 2 sec? Wouldn't it screw it up?
if you still need an answer: in the momentary mode, holding the footswitch down for 2s or longer DOES NOT put it into set tempo mode. however, in every other mode, holding the footswitch down for 2s or longer WILL set it to set tempo mode. hope this helped. :)
I can't seem to get Tap Tempo to work for Gate/Pan mode. No matter the tempo I tap, it always sounds like the rate knob is all the way up. Any hell is appreciated.
Oh, c'mon Don. We know why the Momentary function is there. Or did you enjoy the "stomp, stomp... stomp, stomp... stomp, stomp..." of playing Unchained? The EVH Flanger needs to have the ability to select momentary or latching type switching like you can with VFE pedals.
My EHX Deluxe Mistress doesn't seem to have the deep flange I'm looking for. This BF3 sounds like a winner (for playing The Cure, etc.). The EHX seems OK for The Police we play, but no real "jet" or sweeping effect.
I bought two Boss pedals, a Distortion and a Delay Pedal. The distortion pedal died six months later and the delay kicked the bucket almost a year and a half later. I have pedals older than that and are still going strong. No longer a Boss fan.
You mean hooked up to a power supply? If so, then no. You can even take the battery out as you've probably already drained it long ago without even knowing
I see he does not know how too set a flanger ! I allways set the rate low so I can add depth so it sweeps long without the out of tune effect ! Same with chorus , rate low depth high !
Good demo all the info a guy needs however a fender amp doesn’t give the overdrive tone I wanted to hear you didn’t do any rock tone stuff , mind you this is 9 years old and hopefully you cut your hair 😳 madame ….😅lol lol
Hey, João! Yes, the BF-3 is digital. The BF-2 was analog but they switched to digital to add in some new features like the built in tap tempo. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! Connor Smith, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1793, connor_smith@sweetwater.com

Hypocrite
Flangers are all so different, this is one of my favorites. A lot of features. Great demo as usual. Thanks
the gate practically gives a tremolo, this pedal seems nice all around
A tremelo is a modulation of volume
@@alechaas2875 Yeah and the gate rapidly cuts out and in the volume. So its the same.
I noticed that too
I was deciding between getting on of these or a tremolo and after this video I have definitely decided
@@johnballs0540 ME TOO!

Excellent demo.great sound.great playing😊
Great review. That's how to review a pedal. Straight forward.

Nasher188 Do you notice a volume boost when using your BF-3? Mine is really noticable especially on the dirty channel.

The momentary mode looks ideal for Van Halen, like unchained or better yet ain't talking 'bout love.
I can't help but notice that last part at 5 and 52nd sounds like We Won't Get Fooled Again
3:22 You can't beat a really really deep flange ;)
Great review!
Thanks for that .
Why do you not demo it with some gain?
Hi Jordan. I'm Hank, the guy from the video, its nice to hear from you but I can not answer your question at this time.
Uh.. ok?
Jordan Not gonna lie... I kinda laughed a bit too hard at this.
+Jordan lmfao
+ajbdkla3652 lmfao
Damn that sounds sweeeeeteeeeteeeet 🤓 Gotta get one so i can get that Cure sound!
Need a good chorus pedal more than a flanger for that. But a good flanger is a must
@@high_on_nightmaresI mean Robert has a chorus, a flanger, and a phaser on his board lol
Hell, I Love That Sound :)
I have an old saying, "The deeper the flange, the better".
Tight is better...
In several aspects of life.
Thats what she said

Just picked up a mint one used for $92. Love it!
I have this pedal. Love the effects, but what's the best setting to take out the metallic sound?
Sounds like purple rain rhythm pedal wtf this pedal is amazing so many cool stuff
3:06 Ok, now I know how to do "no quarter".

That gate mode is sick. Very Floydian
This also works with bass? Cause this is a really cool pedal

Love my BOSS BF-3 Flanger from Adawliah Al-Khobar Saudi Arabia
nice soul patch, Tell Daniel I said Happy New year and to you also of course

I don't think I want to visualize that
See you at Gearfest 2015

This pedal seems to be able to imitate Rotary @ 04:46? ME-70 owner.
Bad ass shirt Don...
I was half expecting to hear Baba O'Riley at the end of the video during the "Slicer" section. lol

bruhh imagine gate mode w a tremolo 0.o.. im ganna try it
This sumbitch is the prettiest man I've ever seen.
Very helpful demo. Tnx
WHY did they not put stereo inputs on a stereo output pedal? That prevents me from using it with my other stereo modulation effect pedals.
Can you do a review on the hi-band Flanger
WHAT! No Baracuda segment :-(
I bought two Boss pedals, a Distortion and a Delay Pedal. The distortion pedal died six months later and the delay kicked the bucket almost a year and a half later. I have pedals older than that and are still going strong. No longer a Boss fan.
That's incredibly rare. Boss pedals are probably the most durable pedals you can buy because of their form factor
Yeah that's super strange I have many BOSS pedals working always perfect.
i had a boss pedal that was drenched in beer. it worked like a champ after it dried our
Ive had my same boss delay pedal dd3 for 15 years. Mightve just gotten a dud.
My HM2 is over 30 years old and still brings the noise .
I have this pedal. Sound great, only problem is when I press it on its alway louder. Too loud. It’s like a boost. Anybody know how to stop that?
Is the standard mode the same as the Bf-2....?
anybody knows what's the name of the song in the end?
No sounds great
Sound like the who
@@vibrantdragon3123 who?
Do I have to change the battery inside the flanges event tho I have it hooked up to electric
You mean hooked up to a power supply? If so, then no. You can even take the battery out as you've probably already drained it long ago without even knowing
If your pedals are connected to electricity by an adapter you should ALWAYS remove the battery, or else it will receive an excess of energy input.
What song were you playing in the intro?
Fast Eddie Clark in Fastway vibes.
What an underrated flanger pedal user!Flange-y sounds all over Motorhead sound as well.
Yo vine por los hermosos outros que hace John Frusciante en don't forget me cuando tocan en vivo 🤘
At least it doesn't seem to sound as bad (in the vid anyway) as the PH-3 Phase Shifter Boss released roundabout the same time.
I have both, PH3 is an amazing sounding pedal
@@savanaviolenta Nah! After having a PH -2 Super Phaser the Phase shifter update was a joke tone wise.
What's the song called in the beginning or is it made up?
4 years later and still no answer huh
Was this the one Foo Fighters used for Breakout?
that's the MXR Phase 90
@@kmisi1 Oh I always thought that was a Flanger.
@@saqibshabir9755 is a flanger, not a phaser
What is the riff he plays at the beginning
what is that song at the end?
How is this different from a chorus pedal
I'd just go chorus or phaser

Is just me or the hiss is HIGH?
I heard zombie intro with the open string
does anyone know what song he is playing at the intro
reminds me of some smiths song
He should have play unchained
Hahah you think what I think :D
BullSpit I was waiting for that. Other demos don't play unchained either. I'm confused as to why. That's the whole reason I'm buying this thing.
Hahhhaahhah,exactly ... Blank Slate
Play Heart's Barracuda!
Is it digital?
Hueco Uno Yes
If you have to ask then it doesn't matter.
Flanger for guitar win vs Zack De la Rocha
3:15
this is digital?
jackbaradog yes
Analog
Thats how you demo pedals.
I see he does not know how too set a flanger !
I allways set the rate low so I can add depth so it sweeps long without the out of tune effect !
Same with chorus , rate low depth high !
So always use this setting?
He's showing what it does at different settings. If it was supposed to be used on one setting there wouldn't be any knobs...
That chicks got a deep voice
That outro is the money setting.
Did prince use this for Purple Rain?
He used a Dimension for that sound.
I just bought that for 60$ used
Similar to phaser..
Flanger - Hair Metal
Phaser - Stoner Metal
Both = space rock .
I could not even imagine D.F. As a woman Don lol
the pedal boss bf-3 is horrible sounds like chicharra,
the best boss is the Japanese BF-2 there they have a good flanger
Good demo all the info a guy needs however a fender amp doesn’t give the overdrive tone I wanted to hear you didn’t do any rock tone stuff , mind you this is 9 years old and hopefully you cut your hair 😳 madame ….😅lol lol
so it's an expensive chorus pedal then

Boss is careless enough to remove the level knob, this pedal is way louder than other boss modulation even louder than distortion! 👎
White people be gettin old in odd ways son

Hey, João! Yes, the BF-3 is digital. The BF-2 was analog but they switched to digital to add in some new features like the built in tap tempo.
