Great Video Xavior... Mind Blown!!! Keep up the great content... First magic trick was the ole vanishing penny on the arm. rub-drop-rub-drop el-vanish!!! :-)
HA! A thump tip with a red handkerchief at a Christmas fair in Rome where I grew up! It was also the first ever close up magic trick I had ever seen live and as a small kid it fooled the heck out me and got me really interested in magic. The only problem...I was 6 years old so I had to wait a few years as the thumb tip kept falling off while performing this :-D PS. That Triumph routine Ryan did in the video was CRAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZY!!!!!!!
Just came from the video you did with Chris Ramsey where you taught the elmsley count (which was awesome) and I just want to say your channel is amazing! I subbed after 2 videos!!! You're awesome and your magic is so beautiful! Thank you for being so damn awesome bro! I haven't bought a gimmick yet, I want to get a gimmick deck but I want to get good with handling a deck first. But seriously you're awesome and can't wait to get some notifications when you drop a new video!
one my favourite and first gimmick that i also got with a bunch of stuff I got at all once was double backers. which I still use all the time! love them
One of the first gimmicks that I remember buying was a svengali deck from the dollar store. Picked up tricks here and there over the years, and had some fun with it. Fast forward to 2016, and I was doing a lot of magic for the cross country team I was a part of at the local college. At one of the hotels we were staying at, I transitioned the normal deck I was using for an identical svengali deck. When all the cards changed to the selected one, everyone was freaking out! One of the guys proceeded to open the sliding door and run outside; which he did. Right through the screen door! Let's just say that we were all on the floor in tears, and I looking back, I don't think I can ever top that again. Three cheers for the svengali deck!
hey Xavier, I live in a small island called Trinidad and Tobago. we don't have allot of magicians where I live. I love learning new magic tricks!!! thank you for sharing.... my first gimmick I did was the burnt match in hand.... hope to see more of your videos! thanks for inspiring magicians from the Caribbean!!!!
The first gimmick I bought was the invisible deck... I was eleven and had no idea what I was doing or how it worked. It's now one of my favourite pieces to perform
Exploding dice is definitely my first magic gimmick. I was 10 years old when i get it. It's so simple and maybe bit silly, but it started the spark in myself to love magic more and more. Cheers 🍻
My first gimmick was an invisible deck. I had been doing beginner RUclips magic, but I had NO IDEA that there was a magic shop anywhere near me until I found this. I took my first step into a larger world.
Ohhhhh strap yourself in boys! My first gimmick wasn't actually a single gimmick, but rather a "SUITCASE" full of gimmicks! I bought my very first magic kit, with my own money that I had saved for weeks to buy a new Goosebump book, after seeing a magician at my school in the second grade. That very weekend I bought my first magic kit and it was the one and only Mac King's Suit Case-O-Magic found at my nearest Barnes and Noble. The kit was filled will all different types of toys and gimmicks. The kit also had a booklet and DVD featuring Mac King and his monkey sidekick. Now that I think about it, despite all the little gimmicks and toys that cane with the kit, I think Mac King thought me the one of the greatest lessons of all in magic without intending too. Yes, I did have fun with the gimmicks and tricks but on the DVD Mac King's kind, lovable, and hilarious persona was what really made me enjoy his magic overall. I remember watching the DVD over and over again simply because it was funny and entertaining. I knew all the secrets, I knew how he did the tricks, but non of that mattered. And I guess by being exposed to that, my magic style now is also based around the idea of being kind, humble, and entertaining while showing your audience some cool stuff. Unlike a few of today's younger magicians who thinks magic is interrupting someone to show them something cool that you can do because you're just soooo cool then you walk away leaving them mystified (more like perplexed) like Criss Angel or Dynamo. So there you have it. My very first "gimmick" which also taught me a lesson in magic that I still hold dear to my heart all these years. Good luck everyone! The effects from A New Angle looked freaking sick!
You know that box you get where you put a quarter in and it disappeared....fooled the hell out of me, and I was even more mad when I learned how it worked. Also the first lesson I learned about having good presentation. It's a trick I didn't want to do as an amateur, but after watching this and realizing the potential of a gimmick, I wanna go back to it and see if I can challenge myself to make that little coin box better.
My first gimmick was a Svengali deck that I had no idea how to use as it came with no instructions, I gave up on magic for a while but came back after I found that deck again along with an old marked deck and started experimenting. Three years later I'm very glad I found that deck again since it guided me back into this community and allowed me to be creative ( : hope that'll do ;)
These books look dope. My first gimmick was a little bit of a more ambitious one if you ask me. My first one was a omni deck. I loved the idea of it and how hard hitting it was. Of course i was awful at it because i was new to it and magic but i learned more and more with each performance and i still hold it dear to my heart.
we dont have money so i couldnt get any gimmicks but a magician from my hometown noticed me and hes been doing the art for over 25 years, and recently he gave me a deck from america :D, so im not using those really cheap small cards anymore :), ive been doing magic for well over 2 years now, and ive drained up every possible source from the interwebs, so getting a book would be fenomenal and amazing, it would change my life, i would probably never stop reading it for months :), thank you
My first magic gimmick would have been a svengaldi deck. It was bridge sized, and I could only do one or two tricks with it, but it led me into card magic, which I now am trying to learn more and more about so that I one day may master it, and maybe even make a career out of it.
My first magic gimmick was a Svengali deck that was part of some weird mass produced magic initiative in the early 90's. My brother and I each had one but because they weren't printed on actual card stock, they fell apart pretty quickly. We had lots of fun with them, though. Keep up the great work with the videos.
Thanks for the opportunity! My first gimmick was only 6 months ago! I got an invisible deck. So far I have only used it on my kids but it blew their minds!
My first gimmick was Shin Lim's original flash deck switch. It was amazing to go from a normal red deck to a memorized blue deck. It was so visually stunning and it had an air of supernatural elements too
My first gimmick was a svengali deck. I had it when I was still a kid. Secret was out though when someone fiddled with the deck while I wasn't looking. After that, I didn't come back to magic until college, when I learned sleights
My first magic trick was shown to me at a magic shop when I was about 10 years old. The owner showed me a trick where there's a ring impossibly stuck on a thick spring and he said that if I stand a certain way "insert ridiculous looking pose" the ring would become untangled and would lift right off the spring but only if I stood in that pose lol My mind was blown so my dad bought me that trick and a box that made a card disappear. I'll never forget that day.
The first thing I was spending money for was the great great omni deck. I love this little glas block and the reaction I get with this. I have also bought an version with an scorpion in it and I don't leave the house without this gimmick.
First gimmick I remember was a kid's magic kit that had a special insert for styrofoam cups so you could fill the cup with water and stab it with a pencil and no water leaks out.
My first gimmick was a doubld backer , i remember i bought a deck that came with it and when i saw it i was amazed and started searching and creating tricks I could use it in.
My first gimmick was the Svengali deck. It was also the first magic item I ever bought and I bought it at a toy shop along with a booklet teaching some tricks, it was the trick that got me hooked on magic
Hey brother. Following all 3 of yous guys. The first gimmick was a svengali deck and i used it for a long time. Finally put it down to use just a regular deck to make miracles. Thanks for this giveaway and good luck to everyone.
my first ever gimmick purchase was the invisible deck. only reason I wanted one was after watching Blaine's first TV special when it first aired (where he performed for a dude in a white jumper outfit with shades on). it was only after a few years of the special's release where I was then able to get myself an invisible deck of my own, and has been my favorite gimmick to carry around ever since.
The first gimmick was made by me and it was used for the now u see me opening trick sight of force. I hope i win the book and learn some more stuff but even if i dont win i am learning some cool stuff from this channel. Thank u xavier for sharing your knowledge..
Funny thing,my story relates to yours somehow. The first gimmick i bought was close to stripper deck,it was a svengali deck! Man the days of glory, though my acting skills were so cringy :D Same though, i couldn't afford another deck so i could only perform with it which you know, means i wouldn't do simple card tricks like ambitious card etc..till this day i still have it and it reminds me of how tough it is to get good and how all the effort is worth it in the end. Thank you for letting me remember and share that story, take care Xavior!
Dude these are by far the best triumph I have seen! I actually never bought a gimmick I just bought cards to play around with them or to make my own gimmick but now I'm really considdering to buy a stippet deck! :D
The first gimmick I got as a kid was a box that you put a quarter in and a penny comes out. I loved that little gimmick and showed everyone. I used it so much it broke haha
First magic gimmick I bought was 'The Gift' by Angelo Carbone. Bought it back in late May at Tannen's whilst being on vacation in NYC. Met you there as well and you gave me a deck.
I am just starting, and so I haven't made any gimmicks, but I am super excited about this new life I'm starting in it, and I hope I can learn how to make some soon!
My first gimmick was Garrett Thomas's stand up monte. I loved the routine and I tried to figure it out from watching David Blaine's special. So I glued bunch of cards together and learned it from that. Feels sorry that I didn't actually buy the trick. But that helped me started the magic journey.
The first gimmick that I bought was shin lim's 52 shades of red routine. It was so visually stunning that I had to buy it. But when it arrived the method was slightly disappointing, which made me think that all magic needs to have super major set up and restrictions. But then I continued and here I am.
My first gimmick was the false thumb. I got it in a kit but really the thumb was the only thing I wanted out of it. I prefer card magic now though. I really appreciate the skill and talent required to pull off a lot of these incredible card tricks.
The first gimmick I ever bought was an appearing cane from Tannen's. I was at the airport that next day about to fly home when it fell out of my bag and launched across the terminal and hit someone in the head.
My first gimmick was a rising card deck. But half the cards had a square cut out of them and the box also had a square cut so I could push the card up with my finger.
I will actually be at the Magic Lounge in a few weeks. Hope Ryan is performing. Anyway, my first gimmick was invisible thread. The first time I performed the ghost deck with it I was called a witch, which actually made me feel good.
My first gimmick was a magic box/drawer that came in a magic set. You could stuff items inside the box, close it, and then open it showing an "empty" inside. Was the easiest and most entertaining gimmick as an 8 year old.
I remember there was this talent show in the 3rd grade and I bought a magic kit that had the basic sponge balls routine, linking rings and this cool magician hat that had secret flaps inside
Me 1st gimmick was the pen used for the pen through bill effect. I didn't know how to do the effect so I started coming up with new ways to use the pen.
My first gimmick was this coin disappearing thing where you have a fake set of coins that you place on top of the real coin, tap it with your finger, and it "disappears" lmao
first of all just would like to say the that ryan's magic is just incredible! i'm sure a new angle has tons more amazing routines too! but anyways, my first magic gimmick was actually the svengali deck. i got at a magic shop in Myrtle beach when me and my family were on vacation, the first magic shop i had ever been in, and it was actually way overpriced, but i learned to do magic with it and my love for magic grew since that long time ago.
my first gimmick was the invisible deck. Actually I prefer normal decks of cards, but that effect is so impressive and impossible to unveil for a spectator that I can't stop playing
My first magic gimmick was in a a magic set when I was 9. there was a top hat where there was a secret compartment and so on. But my favorite gimmick was the card which had the top half queen of diamonds and the bottom one king of spades. and what happened was that I show the queen of diamonds when it was sandwiched between two other cards and then I will turn it 180 degrees so the spectator so the king of spades. Later when I got my first deck of cards when I was 10 I showed the trick but I switched the gimmick for the actual king of spades a finished the effect. btw really want that book
The first gimmick(s) I got was during Christmas back when I was in 4th grade. It was the Chris angel mindfreak kit so it came with a lot of gimmicks. My favorite was probably cup and balls trick. I remember used to bring a new trick to school everyday and show people 😂
The first gimmick I bought was the hidden hand by Sean fields in 2014. The trailer looked fantastic and this was when I was first getting into magic but I was kind of disappointed with the gimmick and from that moment I focused my attention towards actually learning slight of hand.
My first Gimmick I got actually was the stripper deck a couple months back. Before that i just did tricks with cards. You could say that my first Gimmick was 2 of the same cards in the deck, but I got the cards by buying 2 identical decks, so that doesn't really count.
I do believe my first gimmick was a thumb tip because I thought it would be cool to make it look like I cut off my own finger XD but then I found plenty more ways to use it and it helps me improvise when I have it on me
I've never actually bought a gimmick before, though I have made a handful of homemade ones to varying degrees of success! I've been doing magic for little over a year and have mainly stuck to slight of hand card and coin magic though I'm trying to expand and improve on that and a good magic book would definitely help with that!
X my first gimmick was the Svengali deck I learned some many routines that all revolved around the A of Spades. I could only perform Ace tricks so I had to pick and choose when and who I showed the tricks too so that everyone wouldn't catch one or ask can you find a different card in the deck?
The first gimmick i bought was an invisible deck at a Dollar Tree at this time i did not know much about magic so i only bought it to play around. A while back a friend got me interested in magic and cardistry(Chris Ramsay mostly) and i bought my first 3 decks from Ellusionist.
The first gimmick I bought was a svengali deck. I didn't use it much cause when I perform this to my friends they'd grab the deck before I could even replace it with a normal deck, which was my fault. But I had alot of fun using it and I fooled quite alot of people with it so yeah, the svengali deck was the first gimmick I ever bought.
First ever gimmick was the haunted key, that was one of the things i first purchase and i still even have it until now. I dont use it anymore but i still keep it as a memento
The first "gimmick" I bought was a pocket index, Daniel Madison's Advocate I think. I'm not really fond of gimmicks but some just stand out and this was one of them :)
My first gimmick that I bought was Dresscode by Calen Morelli and that was after getting money just for that gimmick and I was a teen with no money and where I live I don't know any magic shop and I bought it online, so back then was huge deal because technically may first gimmick was some cards I cut to perform some visual magic
Hell I don't know what it's called but it is the old trick with the large metal ring and chain, the ring is pulled through the chain, dropped, and links on to the chain. Still a great trick.
The very first magic I spent money on and what got me hooked was the invisible deck and with only a little bit of practice I got the hang of it and so i went to perform and I blew minds.
My first gimmick was a double backer. A double backer is one of the most strongest gimmicks, and it allowed me to do some powerful magic, and get great reactions, which allowed me to have a greater connection with the person I was doing magic to. THANK YOU for a chance to win my first book, I'm very excited.
Awesome video xavior as always, my first magic gimmick was a svengali deck, i remember that i totally fooled my friends and family with that deck, it was amazing!
About 10 or 11 years ago I went to a magic show in my city to see Chen Kai (a legend in dove magic) and there was a magic dealer. I remember I saw the magicians performing Scotch & Soda, Jumbo Invisible Deck and Card in Orange during the show (yes, I still remember). At the end, I wanted to buy something, and I bought the Card Toon Deck, but when I was in the car I changed my mind, came back to the dealer to return the Card Toon Deck and I got the Invisible Deck Jorge Betancourt
The only problem...I was 6 years old so I had to wait a few years as the thumb tip kept falling off while performing this :-D
PS.
I haven't bought a gimmick yet, I want to get a gimmick deck but I want to get good with handling a deck first. hey Xavier, I live in a small island called Trinidad and Tobago. we don't have allot of magicians where I live.
First gimmick i bought was "the rouge's ring". I used it mostly to escape the cops. Now i do card tricks and escape acts, still using it.
Great stuff and great book! (Ironic that you give a shout-out to Larry Fong and the shot is blurry. Well played sir!)

My first gimmick was Card Toon. loved the trick, loved the reactions it got but now I prefer doing difficult slights.....and the omni deck 😊
My first magic gimmick was a Svengali deck that was part of some weird mass produced magic initiative in the early 90's. My brother and I each had one but because they weren't printed on actual card stock, they fell apart pretty quickly. We had lots of fun with them, though. Keep up the great work with the videos.

Those routines were "chicken attack" amazing

My first gimmick was the invisible deck, and to this day, it's still one of my favorite card effects.
Dude these are by far the best triumph I have seen! I actually never bought a gimmick I just bought cards to play around with them or to make my own gimmick but now I'm really considdering to buy a stippet deck! :D

My first magic gimmick is the invisible deck. It is very cool though i cannot use it to perform many tricks.
Mine was the stripper deck too! Bicycle, blue one! And to be honest I was absolutely fooled initially! Keep doing great stuff bro!
My first gimmick was Garrett Thomas's stand up monte. I loved the routine and I tried to figure it out from watching David Blaine's special. So I glued bunch of cards together and learned it from that. Feels sorry that I didn't actually buy the trick. But that helped me started the magic journey.

My first gimmick is the red blue backer card , and I'm still using it..... I usually don't use much of gimmicks due to the cleanup that is required !!
My first magic gimmick was the bite out quarter lol.
The first gimmick I ever bought was an appearing cane from Tannen's. I was at the airport that next day about to fly home when it fell out of my bag and launched across the terminal and hit someone in the head.
My first gimmicked deck was an invisible deck. I use it quite a lot while performing. I love it.
My first gimmick was a rising card deck. But half the cards had a square cut out of them and the box also had a square cut so I could push the card up with my finger.
Yo X !!this is a killer competition! !my first gimmick was an invisible deck !! Which got me reactions I had seen on TV and from then I was hooked !!!

My first gimmick was a magic box/drawer that came in a magic set. You could stuff items inside the box, close it, and then open it showing an "empty" inside. Was the easiest and most entertaining gimmick as an 8 year old.
I bought a deck of mixed bicycle gaff cards and used the blanks for this and that. Still my favourite trick to perform today!
My First Gimmick was a coin trick called Lethal Tender. I still love it and use it often.
Awesome stuff, already bought it... Btw, my first gimmick was the Invisible Deck!
I remember there was this talent show in the 3rd grade and I bought a magic kit that had the basic sponge balls routine, linking rings and this cool magician hat that had secret flaps inside

My first magic gimmick, svengali deck. Man! It was almost 10 years and I still keep it with me
My first gimmick was this coin disappearing thing where you have a fake set of coins that you place on top of the real coin, tap it with your finger, and it "disappears" lmao
first of all just would like to say the that ryan's magic is just incredible! i'm sure a new angle has tons more amazing routines too! but anyways, my first magic gimmick was actually the svengali deck. i got at a magic shop in Myrtle beach when me and my family were on vacation, the first magic shop i had ever been in, and it was actually way overpriced, but i learned to do magic with it and my love for magic grew since that long time ago.
My first gimmick was a marked, stripped deck. Got me very familiar with handling cards.
my first gimmick was the invisible deck. Actually I prefer normal decks of cards, but that effect is so impressive and impossible to unveil for a spectator that I can't stop playing
My first Gaff was a ellusionist Gaff deck. The White Ghost Gaff deck
My first gimmick was a folding quarter, which I used for everything from coin in bottle to coin bite effects.
I got an Addams magic kit when I was 2. 1972. Lots of great stuff. I would say ball and vase.
The first gimmick(s) I got was during Christmas back when I was in 4th grade. It was the Chris angel mindfreak kit so it came with a lot of gimmicks. My favorite was probably cup and balls trick. I remember used to bring a new trick to school everyday and show people 😂
My first gimmick was a simple paddle move gimmick, amazing looking back at how much my priorities in magic changed
My first gimmick was a fake thumb. I had a lot of fun with it and still use it today.
Hmmm, that's a tough question. In all honesty, it was probably a thumb tip, which I now hardly use as a card guy haha
I could only perform Ace tricks so I had to pick and choose when and who I showed the tricks too so that everyone wouldn't catch one or ask can you find a different card in the deck?
my first and still favourite gimmicks was a omni deck but I also got and love evo by lui xiang. I also got a gaff deck
The first gimmick i bought was an invisible deck at a Dollar Tree at this time i did not know much about magic so i only bought it to play around. A while back a friend got me interested in magic and cardistry(Chris Ramsay mostly) and i bought my first 3 decks from Ellusionist.
My first magic gimmik was a box with some cards strings and that of Luís de matos that is a great magician in Portugal and all over the world!
My first gimmicks were a thumb tip and an invisible deck. I still use the invisible deck and i dont go anywhere without the t.t.
My first gimmick was a marked deck of bycicles! Loved this video man thanks for sharing!
The trick where the metal ring links onto a chain neckless, still such a good trick.
Cool tricks for a cool deck,my very first gimmick was an handmade marked deck
My first gimmick was 2 of the same cards stuck together for 3 card monte. Loved this trick still use it today xD
my first gimmick was a ring and a chain. when you drop the ring down the chain, the chain magically wraps around the ring. greetings from germany!
Love your videos Xavior. My first trick was one called burn em. I have many others, but this one is my favorite
My first gimmick was a double backer. A double backer is one of the most strongest gimmicks, and it allowed me to do some powerful magic, and get great reactions, which allowed me to have a greater connection with the person I was doing magic to. THANK YOU for a chance to win my first book, I'm very excited.
My First Magic gimmick was The Ball and Vase. It fooled me so many times that I ended up getting it myself.
At the end, I wanted to buy something, and I bought the Card Toon Deck, but when I was in the car I changed my mind, came back to the dealer to return the Card Toon Deck and I got the Invisible Deck
Jorge Betancourt
I don't use gimmiks, not because I hate them, I just love sleight of hand.
Aaaand, I would I would kill to get those books.... :)
My first gimmick was a simple doublebacker. Now I like impromtutricks the most.
