ALEX. I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL THAT YOU MADE THIS VIDEO. I've been following you since like a last year when I wanted to go to SDSU, and a few months ago I discovered I got in. AND GUESS WHAT? Yeah, I'm going there. Just graduated today:) Thank you SO much for this video. SO SO SO MUCH. Nobody's made this and it's awesome and must've required a lot of time. You're absolutely awesome.
Thank you and thank you for making this video. As a parent who is sending your son to college from different state I was so worry how the dorm was going to look. Your tips are amazing too.
They pick them out for you, based on your ranked list of single/double/triple room and learning community. But that's not really something to rely on becuase some people got rooms that weren't even on their lists
aww this is so nostalgic! Went to SDSU 06-10! I lived in Tenochca (spelling?) my freshman year then went to the infamous Albert's College Apartments (palm Plaza), and eventually made my way to Mission Valley... and now North Park. :)
That's so cool! I'm sure not a lot has changed within the dorms, because they all look at least a couple decades old! I was in 6th grade when you were a freshman in college.. Haha
Thanks for this video! I'm in UT this fall and I was wondering, do you know if we can change the curtains on the window and also are we allowed to put closet curtains up since there aren't any doors? Thanks :)
Very nice, I liked UT. I don't think you can change the curtains on the windows. At least, not very easily. But it might be possible. And yes, you can put curtains up on the closets (a lot of people do). SOME rooms have actual doors, but I think most of them do not.
I absolutely love your videos! They're so helpful! But I do have a question: are the Granada apartments co-ed? Because I know the room itself isn't. I got a double I'm Granada for my freshman year this year. Thanks!
Since this is the first year SDSU will own Granada, I'm not 100% sure. But if it's anything like Cuic, the individual apartments will be one gender, and the floor will have a mixture of guy and girl apartments.
Hey! My name is Molly and I'm considering SDSU for this fall. I've been obsessively looking at dorm videos and while this was by far the most informative video, I have still been freaking out completely. If you wouldn't mind answering just 3 questions, I would be forever grateful and will finally be able to take a deep breath. Okay, here goes. 1) Out of just the residence DORMS (such as Maya, Olmeca, Tenochta, etc.) which would you say is the nicest? 2) Which would you say is the least strict on visitors, as far as checking in visitors and having a limit on visitors and whatnot? 3) I know that this year, due to the Zura rooms being renovated, the Tenochta dorms are squished and the doubles are all triples, and the students are still paying for a double but are actually in a triple. Do you know/have you heard if the Tenochta dorms will be back to actual doubles this fall now that the Zura dorms will be completely new and open this fall? (PS, have you seen the Zura dorms and are they nice?) THANK YOU SO MUCH if you do get around to answering this it would mean the absolute world to me wow. Your videos are awesome
hey alex, thanks for the video it was rly helpful! so i got assigned to UT and thought it was suite styled...so its basically a double room with a bathroom shared with another room and no living room/kitchen? and i heard that its farther than the other dorms
You are completely correct. It's a double room connected to another double room by a bathroom (toilet & shower). There's a community kitchen downstairs though, if you really want to cook. It is a little bit farther, that's true. It's still technically "on campus" though.
Hey Alex thanks a ton for this video! so if you were going to do your first year over again which dorm would you want to live in? Just wondering cause I know that granada looks nice but it's kinda far from the other dorms. Also, I've heard socializing is easier and more fun in the regular double dorm rooms and not the suite style.
You're welcome. :) I probably would've chose to live in Granada, because my friends lived there last year, and it was soo nice. It isn't too far from everything, and the entire complex is still relatively new. I think living in normal dorm rooms make it easier to meet people, but you'll have a bunch of floormates, so you'll still get the chance.
Hello! Your video was really useful! I am very thankful for it! I have a question, do they all have air conditioner? I have lived in cold weather most of my life! Thank you in advance
i really really like cuicacalli and i heard that they place you in halls based on your preferences, so i was wondering what i should choose as my preferences to be placed there? Thanks!
I was assigned to Zapotec and I'm slightly confused because I have never heard of it... Is Zapotec suite style or is it traditional? I can't find a description anywhere.
The RLC's move every year, depending on where there is space for them! I believe the RLC themes also kind of change every year also.. But I'm not 100% sure.
Hey Alex, loved the video! As an incoming freshman, I have a quick question. If you requested a triple in the housing application, does that mean you'll most likely get put in chapultepec since they have the most triple rooms?
***** It probably would've meant that a couple years ago, but there are quite a few dorms that offer triples now, so it's much more of a random chance.
Hi! I was wondering about how many people are in each RLC? Is it possible for someone to have a single room while be in a RLC or are they mostly for people w/ double and triple?
I was just wondering if the Granada apartments are all for freshmen? And what're the odds of actually being able to get one? Does it help to have more than one roommate requested and have them all put Granada as their first choice? Thanks!
This video is soo helpful! Just a few questions: does UT have any kitchens for cooking? and did you find it hard to share one bathroom with 4 people? I'm an incoming freshman assigned to UT, and not an athlete, so I thought that was kind of weird too.
There probably isn't much you can do about it until school starts. Chappy is really cool and triples aren't bad! I would just try and go into it with an open mind and go from there. :)
Yes, they're both on campus, technically. And since Granada is a new building to SDSU Residential Education, I'm not sure if it'll always be freshmen. But Cuic has generally been mostly freshmen and some years, one of the towers might have some transfers in it too.
Unfortunately not. The ceilings are too low and the bed frames aren't made to be stacked. But there is lot of space in those rooms, so I wouldn't be too stressed.
just learned I will most likely be at Zura next year. do you know if they have doubles or triples after the renovation? also thanks for making this vid it's very informative
I'm so excited I'm going to be applying here later in the year!! I loved it sooo much when I visited, but I've heard that the campus is "dangerous". Is it? Also, how easy/hard is it to make friends at SDSU? Thanks if you answer! :)
Edwin Reyes I really liked living in University Towers. It was nice not having to share a bathroom with the entire floor. But I think Granada is going to be nice too.
You tell them your preference on the amount of roommates you want to have (fewer roommates means a more expensive lease) and if you want to be on any "themed" floors (exercising, exploring San Diego, LGBT, etc.), and then SDSU pretty much decides for you. They use your preferences as a suggestion, essentially.
Well honestly, the only apartments that I've ever been in are the ones in Granada, and that was before SDSU bought it. So I don't really know what to tell you about which ones are most fun. I think apartment style living is cool, though, regardless of which ones you're in. You have waaay more freedom than you would in a traditional dorm.
In the past, transfer students have usually been put in separate dorms from the freshmen. But my freshman year, I had two 21 year old transfers on my floor, mixed with 46 freshmen. So it isn't 100% guaranteed you'll be in a transfer-only building.
OMG, today I saw you in the cafeteria... I was laughing like a crazy person, by myself because I saw you there and didn't say anything... I couldn't believe I had actually seen you there
Hi Alex I'm from Barcelona and my UNI allows me to go to this university during one course and I'll probably go there in two years. I'd like to know how are the parties in the US and especially in SD and SDSU. Secondly, which are the best ways to make friends? International students are with other international students or they are mixed with Americans? And finally, which type of dorm do u recommend? Thanks!!
Hi, I'm also looking at SDSU for the international exchange program. I've spoken to people that currently go to the Uni and they say that Cuicicalli or however it's spelt is the most common for internationals :)
+Cookiie Monster Every year it seems to be kind of random where they put the international students, but you'll more than likely be mixed in with American students. You might have an international roommate, but you will be on the same floor as Americans.
I'm thinking about transferring to SDSU from Dallas my Junior/Senior years, Do most upperclassmen still live on campus, or do they move out? I have no friends in SD at all so I really want to be able to get involved and make friends, just wondering what your advice would be to a transfer! and where you recommend off campus? I'm coming to visit in june and would like to tour some places. Thanks, awesome video btw!
Madie Reeder Honestly, most upperclassmen don't live on campus, but if you were trying to to get involved, it might be a good idea? There are a million apartment complexes located around campus, so it's kind of just up to how much you want to spend, how close to campus you want to be, and if you want roommates. An alternative would be living in a house? Maybe renting a room!
All dorms party, but typically Cuic is known for it because the layout, it's easier to have more people in the room. No freshman has ever lived in the Granada before but I would also make a good guess that will also be a party dorm because of the layout.
That building was actually added to the SDSU residence hall system after I made this video, so couldn't include it. I'm sorry! I don't know much about it, but I can tell you it's apartment style living, similar (but not as new) to Granada.
Hey Alex! I love your videos you're so funny! I'm a first year student from New Zealand and i'm hoping to do a one year exchange to SDSU next year. Am I able to stay in these dorms/apartments or will I have to find off campus housing?
Oh wow, thank you! They have exchange students stay in the dorms all the time, so I know that it's possible. I think the SDSU Housing Office works with the exchange program to set you up with a room. :)
The housing office actually just told me exchange students are only allowed in Villa Alvardo or Toltec which are apartments? I would have liked to stay in a dorm to meet more american students. Ahhh well. Thanks for your help :)
daniellebeautyy Did they by any chance give you any more information about the Toltec Hall? I'm supposed to be moving in there and have no idea what to expect, haha.
William, since I've been back for RA training, I've learned that Toltec is in a place that used to be called Albert's Apartments, right next to Chappy. So if you want to google that, you'll get a waaay better idea on what they look like. I'm in the process of making a video of them, but we'll see if that works out.
Really considering transferring here in the fall of 2015! Which building is best for a transfer student who wants to experience dorm life? Thank you! This video was amaze.
pretty0dd22 I feel like all of them would give you a good experience! If you're looking for the more "traditional" dorm style, I'd say Tenochca or Maya/Olmeca. But they all are pretty similar. Thank you, by the way. :)
Do you get to choose which kind of dorm you want to live in? For example can I choose to live in Granada? looks really comfortable to live in with friends/(other students) :)
Hey Alexander, I just got accepted to SDSU this afternoon and I wanted to know if freshmen pick what residence hall they want or do we just get assigned ? Thanks for the video it really helps :)
This is like 3 weeks late, so I'm sorry, but I think my overall high school GPA was somewhere around a 3.85. I think it depends on what major you apply for as well.
Ramasaures You are assigned rooms and buildings but you can request a single, double, triple, etc. And if you arent satisfied with your assignment, you can request a room/building change
I have a question about sdsu, but it is unrelated to this video. I have just recently committed to sdsu, but i've heard it is difficult to actually graduate in four years. What do you think about this? Like is that true? Thanks!
This is months late, so I'm sorry, but I think it's totally manageable to graduate in four years. I just did it. I think it depends on the difficulty of your major & classes though. Retaking classes and other factors might add time onto the four years.
This video was amazing.😊 I'm only 15 but I've wanted to go to SDSU since I was a little kid. Question: out of all of these dorms, which is the cheapest, and which do you recommend the most?
trinity fuentes The dorms all cost the same, but the price of your housing is going to decrease depending on how many people you share the room with. So for example, singles are going to be more expensive than triples. And I think Zura is going to be really nice! They're just finishing renovations.
zapotec gone many years ago no more zapotec toltec or tarastec these were the oldest dorms for the longest time they were torn down for the new tennis court
where is it now then? is it on 55th avenue thats what someone told me? mayra when i went there I was on the west side of campus from 1990- 93-94 have to go back over 20 years
I definitely think you are given the ability to request a roommate when you sign up for your housing. I think if you both put each other's names, SDSU will give you priority to room together.
ill add my own correction tarastce totlec and zapotec are apt style livingn areas on west side of campus on 55 th avenue my mistake have fun fellow aztecs
ALEX. I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL THAT YOU MADE THIS VIDEO. I've been following you since like a last year when I wanted to go to SDSU, and a few months ago I discovered I got in. AND GUESS WHAT? The very best tour of the dorms on the internet. All the others are tours of personal property.
I've been looking for a video like this for forever, thank you so much for making it! (:
This was great. At open house we didn't get to see Chappy, but now because of you we have an idea of how much she can bring in a triple. Thank you!
I'm glad I could help. I hope you have a good freshman year. :)

Thank you and thank you for making this video. As a parent who is sending your son to college from different state I was so worry how the dorm was going to look. Your tips are amazing too.
thank you so much for the preview of the dorms
Got a single room in the Granada apartments as a freshman. Thank you Aztec gods
Hahaha you are extremely lucky. Those are definitely the nicest ones, by far.
They pick them out for you, based on your ranked list of single/double/triple room and learning community. But that's not really something to rely on becuase some people got rooms that weren't even on their lists
Thank you for making this video!! :D It was very helpful!
Long live tenochca floor one! You're too awesome Alex ;)

Haha now I feel old!
What about the honors hall
thank you! also i love your shirt. favorite pokemon!
all the international excahnge students used to live on the west side of campus but that was over 20 years ago. had the highest GPA too
are the triples in cuicacalli very crammed or is it managable?
NICE! You went all out! I was planning to do something similar but you beat me to it LOL
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! By the way, I love your Harry poster!
Dudes a legend
Are there different price ranges for the different types of dorms.
what are the dimensions of the single rooms in the Cuicacalli building
thanks for making this! I'll be a freshman next year, so this was super helpful!
Thanks for this video! I'm in UT this fall and I was wondering, do you know if we can change the curtains on the window and also are we allowed to put closet curtains up since there aren't any doors? Thanks :)

And yes, you can put curtains up on the closets (a lot of people do). SOME rooms have actual doors, but I think most of them do not.
got a double in olmeca! seems nice (: thanks for posting this!
how do u get the granada ones
can someone inform me where can i find the allowed things and the opposite in the idea of living at the dorms
I absolutely love your videos! They're so helpful! But I do have a question: are the Granada apartments co-ed? Because I know the room itself isn't. I got a double I'm Granada for my freshman year this year. Thanks!

Anyone know how tall the dorm beds are in the Cuicacalli singles? So I know how much storage space underneath I have.

What about Villa Alvarado and piedra del sol for transfer students and international students!!
I'm sorry! I only got a chance to film in the first year residence halls. :(
hey man thanks for this, i submitted my application recently and am really hoping to get in!!!!
I have been put into Villa Alvarado, I am an international student. I wanted to ask how Villa Alvarado accommodation is like?
hey alex, thanks for the video it was rly helpful!
so i got assigned to UT and thought it was suite styled...so its basically a double room with a bathroom shared with another room and no living room/kitchen?

For Tenochca, is there any way to get bunk beds instead of having 2 separate beds?
Ikusaba no.. bunks are usually only for triples.

connor russell Thank you!
i really really like cuicacalli and i heard that they place you in halls based on your preferences, so i was wondering what i should choose as my preferences to be placed there? Thanks!
Ur video gave me life
I was assigned to Zapotec and I'm slightly confused because I have never heard of it... Is Zapotec suite style or is it traditional? I can't find a description anywhere.
Thanks so much for the helpful video! I'm so excited to attend SDSU in fall 2015. Where are the RLC located? And do they change each year?
The RLC's move every year, depending on where there is space for them! I believe the RLC themes also kind of change every year also.. But I'm not 100% sure.
Hey I'm from Cleveland Ohio and really want to go to SDSU... Is the move hard? Just afraid it will be hard to fit in.

I'm an incoming Freshman and they assigned me a single in the Granada. Is that normal? I've been hearing that Freshman are not typically in there.

You are too much! Love the fact the you are reppin' UT *wink wink*
Hahaha why are you watching this video?!
I don't even know how i got here... Morgan and I were watching, while cutting out door decs
I was put into a triple in Chapultepec, do you know how I could switch into a double? Preferably in Tenochca??
There probably isn't much you can do about it until school starts. Chappy is really cool and triples aren't bad! I would just try and go into it with an open mind and go from there. :)
can transfer students be in any one of these dorms? or just in the apartments?
I've been assigned to Piedra De Sol for freshman year. I haven't heard anything about it. Any thoughts?
I've honestly never been inside PDS, but I do know that it used to be for upperclassmen, and I think it is apartment style, similar to Granada.
can the granada suits be co ed ?? because i might have friends that id like to dorm with?
Quick question. Are Grandada and Cuicacalli on campus? And do they offer these two buildings to freshman or is it upperclass priority?
Yes, they're both on campus, technically. And since Granada is a new building to SDSU Residential Education, I'm not sure if it'll always be freshmen. But Cuic has generally been mostly freshmen and some years, one of the towers might have some transfers in it too.
Thanks :)
Can you loft the beds in University Towers?
Unfortunately not. The ceilings are too low and the bed frames aren't made to be stacked. But there is lot of space in those rooms, so I wouldn't be too stressed.
+AlexanderSaleen are bunk beds separable?
I don't think so.. The rooms that have bunk beds have them because there's no room for them on the floor. Haha
just learned I will most likely be at Zura next year. do you know if they have doubles or triples after the renovation? also thanks for making this vid it's very informative
Are you in the honors college? Because I just found out that's where they'll be dorming

Damn that granada Room.
how could i get into one as a freshman?
Do incoming freshman dorm in any of those residence halls or is there a specific building freshman dorm in?
From what I know, freshmen will be living in any and all of these buildings.
Thank you. Personally what's your favorite res hall?
Edwin Reyes I really liked living in University Towers. It was nice not having to share a bathroom with the entire floor. But I think Granada is going to be nice too.
Question: How does the school determine in what building your going to live?
You tell them your preference on the amount of roommates you want to have (fewer roommates means a more expensive lease) and if you want to be on any "themed" floors (exercising, exploring San Diego, LGBT, etc.), and then SDSU pretty much decides for you. They use your preferences as a suggestion, essentially.
AlexanderSaleen Awesome Thanks!
How many years have you been in SDSU? Or are you almost graduating?
Do incoming freshmen have to stay in a specific residence hall or can they stay in any
You can pretty much stay in any of them, but it's totally random.
I've also been assigned to Maya... it should be interesting.
Maya isn't too bad. They're old but they aren't the worst. Haha
Same here, it looks nice.
Hey Alex, which apartments do you think are the most fun?
Well honestly, the only apartments that I've ever been in are the ones in Granada, and that was before SDSU bought it. So I don't really know what to tell you about which ones are most fun.

SDSU hardly takes outsiders. Especially from out of state.
Hi, which dorm are known as the "party dorm" :)
All dorms party, but typically Cuic is known for it because the layout, it's easier to have more people in the room. No freshman has ever lived in the Granada before but I would also make a good guess that will also be a party dorm because of the layout.
all the dorms on east side are party style.
does anyone know which hall the toltec community is in?

+Mayra Solis-Madueno Hey which one is the "best" apartment? I heard piedra del sol is nice and has a dorm feel.
No Piedra del Sol :(
i got assigned to zura. ???? where do
I'm sorry. Zura opened the year after I made this, so I couldn't film it. I can tell you that's it's pretty nice and brand new though!
oh sick!! thank you :D
Do you get to choose which kind of dorm you want to live in? For example can I choose to live in Granada? looks really comfortable to live in with friends/(other students) :)
***** nope, just RLC/room type/housing over breaks
Hey Alexander, I just got accepted to SDSU this afternoon and I wanted to know if freshmen pick what residence hall they want or do we just get assigned ? Thanks for the video it really helps :)
Which major? I got accepted too
hi I don't know if you still check this but can you tell me your GPA that you had when applying here
This is like 3 weeks late, so I'm sorry, but I think my overall high school GPA was somewhere around a 3.85. I think it depends on what major you apply for as well.
is the housing meal plan worth it ?
I think it is required for freshman, and definitely worth it. The convenience of eating on campus is tremendous.
Does anyone know if u attend sdsu, do u choose where u live. Like can u choose to live in chappy or university towers or no.
AlexanderSaleen Alright! Thanks a lot 😊
Can I request to live in the apartment? also can I request my room mates?
I heard you can choose your room mates but im not sure
your information is outdated people stating they have been assigned to Zapotec; did they rename the buildings they were demolished almost 10 yr ago
What about transfer dorms!
I'm sorry! I don't have the same hookups in those dorms. Haha
Maybe that'll be my next SDSU video.
+AlexanderSaleen Please do!!
got a double in university towers!!
Very nice. I liked living there last year. :)
Some people got the dorms in Zapotec. What are those dorms like?
zapotec gone many years ago no more zapotec toltec or tarastec these were the oldest dorms for the longest time they were torn down for the new tennis court
where is it now then? is it on 55th avenue thats what someone told me?
mayra when i went there I was on the west side of campus from 1990- 93-94 have to go back over 20 years
i have 1 question can me and my friend can live in the same apartment??or Im going to be with a random person??
I definitely think you are given the ability to request a roommate when you sign up for your housing. I think if you both put each other's names, SDSU will give you priority to room together.
+AlexanderSaleen thank you so much
ill add my own correction tarastce totlec and zapotec are apt style livingn areas on west side of campus on 55 th avenue my mistake have fun fellow aztecs
Is there free wifi
Haha yes. It's a little unreliable sometimes, but yes, there is.
Am I the only one who saw the Harry Styles pic behind him?
Nope I saw my baee too lol
Go Aztecs!
i love you lol
okay wow u are daddy
you are so sweet
