I have played an early 80's ODS and a 90's ODS. I've owned Zendrives, Rumble Mod, Ethos, DumBox, Wampler Ecstacy, Zenkudo, Dumkudo, Dumbloid, Jetter GS 124, and a Menatone Howie. Nothing and I mean nothing, comes close to this Simble pedal I just bought. If you are looking for a pedal that absolutely NAILS the characteristics of the fabled Dumble overdrives, just buy this pedal. This is hands down the best D style od I've ever played, and surprisingly enough, one of the most inexpensive. Hats off to the folks at Mad Professor!
+Mike Brock that's an impressive resume... I have used a Zendrive 2 that was impressive though arguably a lot of tube sag. Have you played one of these? Also how much were you paid to make this statement? Also can you hear a difference, in this clip at least of 720p HD audio with decent cans or monitors, between the simble and the real Dumble?
I don't hear tens of thousands of dollars difference here. Probably the most accurate sounding Dumble pedal on the market. If I was hearing this thing cranked up and live on stage (where tone actually matters), I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Ordering mine today.
my Simble came in the mail today. I really like the wide range of dynamics available in this box. Very thick and rich while maintaining all the clarity I desire with more highs than I need... at least at this moment ;) Very satisfied!
Dumble is a great amp. Simble is a great pedal. ........The deciding factor? Price. Most of us have to be content getting close to a Dumble for a fraction of the price. The truth is that these sounds are all beautiful and useful.
In the first sequence, if the high of the pedal's tone was reduced slightly, and the mids goosed just a tad, I think the end result would have been much closer to my ears. Nonetheless, the ability to even GET that close is remarkable. Well done fellas.
Finally proof that the Simble sounds more like a Dumble that an actual Dumble. I thought the Dumble sounded a little muddy and kinda like a pedal, while the pedal sounded like a Dumble amp with a perfectly set bias and JAN tubes from 1955. Way to go guys. You switched the sound tracks didn't you?
Beautiful...love my Simble! One quibble..looks like a very high end cable going in to the Dumble, a Vovox maybe? To be truly accurate the same cable needs to be used across the comparison.
The simble sounds good but it doesn't have the liquid compression of the Dumble. Still, if the clean amp was cranked, the combination of it and the simble would probably be pretty awesome
Marko, All your pedal demos sound great. I think a blindfold test is in order for those who think they can differentiate between the ODS and the simble. Marko, can you do a live A/B of the pedal and the ODS , into the minus all backing tracks please ?
Great demo. Fantastic guitarist. This is how it should always be done. Definitely THE poor man's Dumble. Very very close. Congratulations to Mad Professor. You're really pushing the limits of solid state technology here. Seriously considering this.
The real Dumble sounds like it has a small room reverb which creates a greater dimensional quality to it's sound. The Simble, by comparison, sounds flatter. Otherwise, sounds pretty close. Fantastic musicianship on display with Mr. Karhu.
Great demo. It is very close indeed. The Dumble seems to have less treble edge, this could be the eq setting of course. The pedal is a terrific clone of the sound and as I am broke most days, I go for the pedal. In a noisey bar or club, no one is gonna know the difference. Great playing too.
No comparison in my opinion. The Dumble Overdrive amp has so much more depth and "roundness". The pedal certainly isn't a bad overdrive sound, but to my ears it doesn't even come close to the Dumble. Thank you for taking the time to make this video !
Bravo on placing more value on the amp - it obviously is better but hard to imagine anyone getting closer. I would have use for this pedal even though I own a real ODS.
I think if you would have dialed in a slightly warmer treble setting on either the fender amp or the Simble pedal, then the comparison to the Dumble amp would have been spot on. ;)
Fantastic playing and demo! The Dumble amp definitely sounds better. It's much warmer but the pedal sounds pretty damn good. Was that Nutbush City Limits at the end?

Yes, we knew he was using Tweed Deluxe. Nonetheless a great solo that was very interesting to try to duplicate for this demo :-)
Kid-on Charlemagne , not bush city limits any other clone covers?
Those were the ones!
you sunk the dumble way back into verb fender is dryer
Same amount of effects on both tracks!
The amp is perfect.
Someone knows what song or backing he plays in the beginning?
+DerekAnd TheDominos That´s "Kid Charlemagne" by the great Steely Dan, Thanks!
Kid Charlemagne by Steely Dan
Solo is by Larry Carlton, a famous Dumble user.
Although he never used a Dumble on a Steely Dan recording. He always used the little tweed Fender Deluxe. He still sounds like Larry! I saw him play though a Hot Rod Deville, and he still had the same tone. It was a great show at a small venue.
Have seen him also playing through rented amps and have to agree, he always sounds like Larry!
On my Simble, I typically use the settings being used here on Kid Charlemagne. It really makes the neck pickup on my Les Paul sing! I'm not saying I sound like Larry Carlton or Robben Ford, but it definitely sounds great!
Dumble amp +++
Dumble wins in any category...Simble has not that depth... but it sounds good, because of the player :-)
Thanks for visiting, commenting and listening the demo!
Simble wins IMO.
Thanks Gary, highly appreciated!
