দুর্গাপুজোর ইতিহাস নিয়ে আলোচনার এই পর্বে আজ কথা হচ্ছে বারোয়ারি দুর্গাপুজো আর সর্বজনীন দুর্গাপুজোর ইতিহাস নিয়ে। উনিশ শতকে বনেদি বাড়ির ঠাকুরদালান ছেড়ে দেবী দুর্গা নেমে আসেন সাধারণ মানুষের কাছে, পাড়ায় পাড়ায়। প্রথমে শুরু হয় ভবানীপুর সনাতন ধর্মোৎসাহিনী সভার পুজো, তারপর শ্যামপুকুর সর্বজনীন। এরপর বাগবাজার সর্বজনীন। সিকদার বাগান, সিমলা ব্যায়াম সমিতির পুজো। ভবানীপুর সনাতন ধর্মোৎসাহিনী সভার পুজোকে বলা যায় প্রথম বারোয়ারি পুজো, আর সিমলা ব্যায়াম সমিতির পুজো প্রথম সর্বজনীন পুজো। আজ রইল কলকাতার দুর্গাপুজোর সেই সব গল্প।

The first Barowari Durga Puja was initiated by the Bhawanipur Sanatan Dharmotsahini Sabha, followed by the Shyampukur Sarbojanin, and later the Bagbazar Sarbojanin. Other notable pujas included the Sikdar Bagan and the Simla Byayam Samiti Puja. The Bhawanipur Sanatan Dharmotsahini Sabha’s puja is often regarded as the first Barowari Puja, while the Simla Byayam Samiti Puja is recognized as the first Sarbojanin Durga Puja.
