Gabbie Hanna released a large number of TikTok's in rapid succession spurring her audience to call for safety checks. There was a concern of manic behavior. That was later confirmed by Hanna. Here is my nonverbal analysis.

From the poor judgment during a manic episode to the lows of being super depressed, it’s dangerous. Not being medicated is bad enough, self medicating with pot is also pretty bad.
My first psychiatrist sat me down and asked "Do you smoke pot?" and I was like, hardly ever. He made the point that marijuana is a nervous system depressor and it will trigger episodes. No pot for you, was the main message. I was being truthful when I said "hardly ever" and I haven't touched it for a decade. All his friends (including me) that tried to convince him otherwise, suddenly became the pure evil. He was very upset and emotional. They had to put him legally into psychiatry. Later, when he got better, he did not remember any of that things. Bipolar disorder is very tricky because the patients cannot understand that their reality is different from that of all the others.

I dated someone who is bipolar. the most frustrating part of dealing with someone like this is the fact that they really can't remember key elements of their state of mind from either extreme state after they come out of that extreme state. So it's next to impossible to try to consolidate the two points of view in their mind (I am God and can save the world ~vs~ I am scum and should die). Fortunately for Gabbie she recorded so much of the manic state that she now has a way to "remind" herself what she was thinking... I wonder if it's possible hypnotic regression therapy could help these people too?
I watched a program once, that documented a man through his extreme mania episode. He was a very wealthy man and the things he did in his mania used a lot of his wealth. He didn't try to curb the mania, he just rode the wave... very fascinating watch and really helpful for understanding people like that.

True, and I almost believed her bc I am also bipolar, but that was until she actually acknowledged that she was manic on twitter during her episode- and also… you cannot be diagnosed as Bipolar unless you have had a hypo/manic episode and she’s suddenly claiming this is her first time? But yet she’s diagnosed? And what about that summer when she posted that she was hypomanic during that Jessi Smiles thing. Hypomanic and Mania are similar but different- hypomania not being near as severe nor delusional as full blown mania.

To me her post-episode rationalisations of her actions come across as exactly that: rationalisations. Maybe in the immediate moment of a manic episode, opening the door to a stranger and letting him in she truly didn't feel like she was in any harm and naturally she wouldn't as she's having a manic episode and not thinking rationally. Later, after the episode has passed and the stranger has been kicked out, Gabbie realised that she has to explain this behaviour to her followers, and takes some time to think about how best to do that. How does she convey that she didn't think she was in any danger? Well, what would you look for when you're assessing a stranger asking to come into your house? Their height, their build, whether they look like they've got a weapon, stuff like that. People pointed out she was in danger and something serious could've happened, well, what would the police look for in that case? A name, a face, DNA at the scene, etc. So she brings all these things in because, thinking rationally, that would explain her behaviour, but the problem is she wasn't thinking rationally at the time, and you can't rationally explain irrational behaviour. She couldn't later explain why she felt completely safe at the time, so she needs all these extra explanations like "I looked him over to see if he had any weapons" and "I gave him a drink so I'd have his DNA and prints" thinking that they'll justify to her rational self and to her audience what her irrational self did, when the explanation should really have been "I acted irrationally because I wasn't in my right state of mind".
They also help her avoid any sort of accountability for her actions, because admitting that she wasn't thinking straight and did in fact put herself at risk of great harm means accepting that she can't manage her condition or guarantee that she won't do it again, meaning she might need some form of intervention such as psychiatric treatment or having to live with a relative for a while. This way, by offering rational explanations for her behaviour, she gets to say "see, it does make sense, so I'm okay and can take care of myself and you don't need to worry about me or scrutinise my life or behaviour any further". If this really is the first time she's experienced an episode like this, she needs more help and support, not less, and as difficult as it is to say to a person with a condition such as Bi-Polar Disorder "we don't trust that you can take care of yourself and manage your condition, so we're going to step in and take care of you", sometimes that is the unfortunate reality of conditions like BPD, and Gabbie is clearly approaching that point.

Just a reminder to folks: People fresh out of a severe MH crisis - who aren't in therapy, fully informed about their condition, or even reliably of sound mind yet - *do not have objectivity about said MH crisis.*
    - They may genuinely believe some of the conclusions they're drawing or details they're remembering.
    - They may be so embarrassed, terrified, confused, ashamed, or even traumatized by different parts the experience that they're sub- or unconsciously trying to soften the reality for THEMSELVES.
    - They may start reaching for explanations for _x_ or _y_ that, 2 years from now, they'll figure out in therapy was actually "bc of _a_ and _b_."
    - Or, of course, they may be trying to rationalize, minimize, or re-imagine the truth solely for the people listening. Maybe to save face or their reputation, to lessen a loved one's concern about them, reduce their suspicions about illegal or destructive behavior, reassure them that they're in control and don't need to get help or be hospitalized, restore trust, spare themselves a guilt-trip or angry response, or even to keep themselves physically safe.
--- And, that kind of deception can happen either entirely knowingly (esp in cases of add¡ct¡on, €D's, etc) where they know they're lying or trying to get away with something. ...or, it can also be something they've no idea they're doing. Be it bc they're still not out of the crisis or in touch with reality yet, or just an instinctive, subconscious, coping mechanism they've not unlearned yet. (Or, ofc a survivalist means of self-protection by someone in danger/risk of aßuse.)
I say this NOT for Gabbie's benefit - I couldn't care less about her or her image/reputation. She's irreparably harmed more than one of my communities. She's irredeemable for me. But these misunderstandings about MH, the broad accusations, automatic disbelief, motive-asserting, etc, etc about HER will harm regular everyday people who also have mental health crises. They're not only reading your comments and feeling hurt, but it also confirms their worst fears that this is what everyone around them must think when THEY lose touch with reality or struggle this badly. Don't be sensitive or knowledgeable about MH for Gabbie's sake - she's certainly never granted anyone else that much. She won't see your comment. But dozens of folks with severe mental ¡llness will, and worse, so will their loved ones. Be sensitive and keep these things in mind (or learn them for the first time) for their benefit. And frankly, their survival.

    • @Kaalyn_HOW
      @Kaalyn_HOW 2 года назад +5

@@foolishlyfoolhardy6004 Like I said, this was less about Gabbie, but more about everyone else who struggles the same as her being misunderstood bc of her.
But the answer to that question is entirely dependent on the person's character, integrity and values. _When they're completely lucid and fully themselves._ And that part matters. Some will be horrified to know they said those things and seek to make amends to the end of the earth. Repeatedly. Others may doubt they even said it. Others still will hold steady to the fact they didn't know what they were saying and never would have had they known (and sometimes that's actually true. In the same way they thought god was talking to them or that someone was after them bc of a superpower, they really _may_ exist in a reality that isn't their own). But even so, it's up to us all to still apologize for any hurt we cause others - regardless if we even knew we were doing so. So, then in these instances, they must not only make amends but take steps to ensure others are protected (as are they) from future MH lapses where they may be hurtful again. (Phone rules, social media account access by a friend, etc.) Then, there are others who simply won't care they said those things bc they genuinely believe those terrible things even when they're grounded and clear.
It's hard to say. But you can't be certain until they're *fully* lucid. And leveling out - free of delusions and paranoid intrusions, not just the mania - can take awhile. But, again, I want to re-stress this is just education for folks to understand the loved ones in their life, not Gabbie. I don't care about others being understanding to her since she could never even TRY to show anyone else the same respect. I just don't like seeing people extrapolate her situation into loved ones struggling similarly...and getting a bunch of things wrong, hurting them.

I was POA for a woman who is bipolar and her psychiatrist suspected has either BPD or histrionic personality disorder. She apologized a LOT, but only as a manipulation tactic. She would apologize profusely to you while sending a text to someone else blaming you for everything. Her daughter ALSO has bipolar and confirmed BPD. The daughter never apologizes for anything ever believing everyone else is out to get her. I had a bipolar friend in college who always took responsibility for her actions, which helped her stay more stable. I have also known people with BPD who also took responsibility for their actions.
Mental health is not a monolith. Just because you or your uncle with bipolar can take responsibility does not mean everyone else has gotten there yet or ever will. You can't MAKE someone want to be a better person or better their mental health. They have to decide to take that step that themselves.
Additionally, discussing these things with the internet is likely very hard. If this is her first truly manic state then she may think of it as "not her" and therefore not think she is responsible. Or she may still not be fully stable quite yet in the follow up videos. Or maybe she is embarrassed and can't bring herself to fully take responsibility yet. And the inconsistencies such as her account of the guy visiting her house could be her trying to justify to herself and make sense of her own actions. The lady I was POA for would always tell me that while manic all of her actions made sense. She felt "powerful, smart, and in control" even when she wasn't.

This is really hard for me to watch. My aunt is bipolar and a pathological lier and Gabby’s whole situation reminds me of some of the rougher times in my aunts life. I personally understand how hard it is to have someone you love and care about take a situation that is already scary and imagining the situation in a completely different light. She frequently tells stories and experiences that make absolutely no sense and ignores the concern of her loved ones. And with her pattern of lying and lashing out when confronted, it’s very hard for us to believe her when shes going through things. So I truly hope that gabby does genuinely go to therapy and that she ends up with a lovely therapist who addresses her deeper issues and she gets the help that she desperately needs.

The latter possibility is extremely sad because I do think she needs help, but she isn't letting herself get it whether she faked this whole thing or not.

I feel really bad for Gabbie. I used to be a sub back when Vine was still a thing, and through all her crazy roommate stories and what not during her prime. I loved her and I saw myself in her (still do), and she became my favorite person on this platform. It's been heartbreaking to see her spiral slowly. It happened very slow. It started with her getting in shape, getting & decorating a new house, starting music & getting more creative, and she was in therapy. She really seemed to be doing well, had a boyfriend she (and I) was obsessed with, and she had good friends, and I was so thrilled to see her doing so well as I'd been there through her worst. Then it started she was coming for other creators, and the drama channels went crazy about her. I lost hope for her too. Unsubscribed, and never intended to come back. Several months pass, I'm mostly out of the loop, and I can't help but to want to check in on her. It's like a 180. I could tell she was extremely manic, her boyfriend and her broke up, she wasn't with friends, and wasn't really getting out, and the online harassment SHE displayed towards others got out of hand. Everyone was against her, and she has nothing except herself, her little online presence (now mostly on tiktok as she deleted her youtube), and her house. I feel bad for her. Really bad. I do NOt condone her behaviors towards x,y and z people, and I think she needs serious help and serious accountability, BUT deep down I absolutely do not think Gabbie is inherently spiteful & evil and that's where the compassion has some room. I really just want her to get help and see her thrive for herself. I do not want her on social media as its damaging to herself, but especially for others. She's a loose cannon, and needs to truly be alone, or with a small tight group where the public can't judge her. I think she has potential to undo all that shes done wrong, and I think she has the potential to see how wrong she has been and truly apologize. I don't think Gabbie is a true narcissist and certainty not a sociopath, and she has the ability to find peace in this world. I probably will never be a fan or subscriber again, and honestly I don't even want the option. I hope she somehow gets kicked off the internet, but I truly truly wish her the best, and help, and i hope she gets better cause she really has been a light of hope for me at one point and I know she has the potential to heal others, and she really does have a lot of creativity and talent that shouldn't be wasted like this. I KNOW she can be better and that's why this is so heartbreaking. I wish i could give her a hug. This isn't a hate train im on, I truly worry about her. This is scary, and I have no idea when it got so bad. Gabbie NEVER used to be like this. Like something is seriously wrong and I feel shes running out of time if she continues to spiral like this. She said it herself that shes never had a manic episode like that. This was probably the first of many, and it's probably going to get worse and she or someone else will actually seriously get hurt. Like this is not a joke.

I live alone and I won’t even answer that door half the time for the Uber Eats people. I don’t answer my door to anyone I’m not expecting. That keeps me from having to tell them to go away and if they don’t go away I can call the cops.

My husband is bipolar 1, the more severe of the two. He takes his medication, he somtiems still has manic epsiodes and depressive one outside of those. I can sympathize with gabbie a little, however I think she had some judgement problems and may need to get her medicine adjusted as well as see a therapist more regularly if she isnt already.

@@BooksRebound That therapist is a quack. That is what you can say about almost anything. 'its just energy'. She should stay away from the Deepak Chopra shiit.
She needs an anti psychotic. Maybe a mood stabiliser like lithium.
There is a risk of her quiting medication once she starts because its "taking away my creativity".
I have seen it in other people as well.

So crazy... With everything we know now in hindsight, and seeing the way she distorts events, it makes you look at all her old storytimes that she did that made her so popular wayyyy differently

no matter what is going on, Gabbie needs to get help, possibly more than just seeing a therapist. Hope everything works out and Gabbie gets to a better place mentally.

She still sounds manic as she’s ranting about the previous week… from my firsthand knowledge of mania, it takes some time to recover… like at least a month honestly until you somewhat resemble yourself fully and have logical trains of thought again. But ya.. idk.

the thing that I find strange, if she’s not medicated properly, is the amount of recollection and rationalization that she brings to this only a week after it happened. I’m not accusing her of faking, because I don’t really think she is, but it’s just something that doesn’t line up with the experience I have with bipolar, and it stood out to me

She let this strange guy into her home because she was in a manic state. She's making up lies about the steps she took for her own safety because she doesn't want everyone on the internet blaming her. But i really dont think she was capable of thinking about her safety in that situation and i think her getting emotional about "helping people in need" is genuine. Shes not getting emotional thinking about how difficult it is when you have to go to the bathroom, shes thinking about how she extended kindness to a stranger in efforts to be a small light in an unfriendly neighborhood and was taken advantage of. I really don't like Gabbie Hannah, buy I feel really bad for her in this situation and I understand where she's coming from because I have had similar mental health symptoms.
I think if you have a problem with victim blaming, you should take issue with it even when it's related to someone you don't like. Like I said, she was in a manic state, she wasn't capable of making rational decisions.

My husband is bipolar and it can be a roller coaster
