As for your points in the end:
- In the original AoM, resources were shown at bottom left. They added an alternate UI in this playtest that places them on the bottom right. Given that AoE 3 DE has three UI layouts to choose from, I think they'll add more for AoM as well. :)
- AoM uses direct hotkeys which imo is better than AoE 4 where you first have to press the Age hotkey and then the building one (which throws me off as someone being used to AoE 2 where you press Q or W for Eco or Military and then the corresponding hotkey for the building e.g. W+R for a Siege Workshop). Ideally, they give us options. :D
- No idea as to why your units get removed from control group. Maybe it's a beta issue?

Hell yeah I thought you were gonna play in the last beta so I was excited for this.
FINALLY! I waited for this moment
Game seems alright to me. Played a few matches. I do like each civ villager mechanics are different from one another to some extent and how each civ gains favor is different. But those god powers can be ridiculous. Its like whoever reaches age 4 first wins. Wipes out your entire army. Also Beasty don't know if you may have figured it out by the time you posted the video, but there is an alternate UI set up for the top bar of resources in the setting to have it on the right bottom side next to the map. Its called Enable Alternative HUD Layout. So almost like aoe4.
You know none of my games even got to mythic age, it was pretty aggressive every time in my experience. In fact the game only made it to heroic twice in all my games. Now part of that might be mismatches, where some people playing aren't very experienced, and so they went down quickly.
But I am quite curious as to how quickly people who play AoM on a meta basis in the older versions get to mythic. Plenty of AoE4 games don't make it to imperial.
And I haven't played AoM on a ranked ladder in over a decade and a half at this point.
Much more fun to watch than aoe4

The best "Age Of" game.
Regarding units in AoM. In general infantry counter cav - cav counters archers - archers counter infantry. Myth units counter everything to an extent and heroes counter myth units. And siege is siege. But there are a bunch of counter units that are good against one type of units but really bad agains another one. Normally you can see it in the description.
Oh, and Towers update like in AoE but you cannot make basic one attack by garrisoning. But upgrades are for all towers at once. And you upgrate walls... in walls.
Can’t wait till I can play the scenario’s created by the community again.
They did change the major and minor gods, added new units and change how the units look. The myth units look great.
The number of times I've seen AoE4 criticized for its supposedly cartoonish and "other era" graphics by purists of other AoE and now we see the same thing happening but by an AoE4 playerbase.
You just like AoE4 and don't feel comfortable switching games, that also happens to other players of other RTS.
Every game I don't like looks like a mobile game.
Beastys video is recorded in 1080P. Aussie drongo records this game at 4k in case anybody wants to see this game at max graphics. Its a completely different experience. I am so excited to see more Beatsy AOM content!!! He can teach me how I'm messing up at launch lol.
Use the drawves for mining gold, they mine it way better.
i played my first multiplayer games over the week end and it was pretty fun, a few bugs but overall was pretty fun
With Norse, infantry construct all buildings except farms and ox carts, which are contructed by villagers/dwarves. Villagers/dwarves may also build houses.
Reminds me of Counter-Strike 2. Will buy.
Today too you can play this game in the stress test, today and tomorrow.
Ahh Age of Mythology my first game ever possessed followed by Rome:Total War, pure nostalgia, goodbye AOE4 for a couple month if not years

What setting produced those super-visible outlines for units and buildings? I played a couple of matches but my game did not look like that.

yea even with the graphical improvements playing retold just makes me want a new modern aom
you've got the graphical setting on that outlines everything with a black border for readability apparently which makes it look more cartoony. turn it off and itll look better.
A blast from the past!
Definitely want to take some time and remap controls, I also had to toggle the option to lock cursor to screen. Which is fine, but mildly annoying in a three hour test window.
I did play egypt in the closed beta, and lumber camp / mine were the opposite of aoe4, so i had to rebind that to stop my brain frying. And the garrison/ungarrison, etc.
But it was a good experience keybinds aside, worked well, games were dynamic.
I think you could be a pro in 2 weeks time if you gave it a chance

you need months to learn all the tactics and all the stuff. in team games it gets even more complicated. Its amazing.

I've played a couple games now and having to look up for resources, idle vills etc is so unnaturel. Please let them have it adjust to bottom left or right.
I like the way your characters have a little outline around them and I havent noticed it elsewhere , have you changed something?

Well it is a remastered version of a game from 2002. looks really good for remaster if you go back and play the original.

yup and i keep seeing the AoM original enjoyers saying it looks better than AoE4. I think its honestly the nostalgia playing a massive factor, but this is the second remake so 3rd iteration of the same game. Definitely not worth the price.

The UI is more like AOE3's UI.
That's because AoE 3 and AoM share the same engine
Too much noise every click. They should not trigger one at click unless nothing else is playing otherwise ignore it. So sounds can be finished. It's supper annoying currently

people in his twitch chat saying the graphics looks better than aoe 4 are on crack. The UI also is very bad and needs re-arranged, not nearly as playable as aoe 4. The animations are also pretty bad too. They should've used the aoe 4 engine.
Aoe 4 engine sucks. Aoe 3 de engine looks way cleaner and less cartoony. Units don’t phase into eachother like in aoe 4. Retold looks awesome

It does look better than AOE4 and the animations are great. Also, you can choose a different UI in the settings. Everything here is better than AOE4.
@@Ballistic-vn6em agree to disagree. It looks like a game from 2010. Aoe 4 looks modern. And the animations are terrible. They look choppy and awkward. and the lighting is so bad it looks washed out. it's beta so maybe they can do better, but they didn't do a great job so far.
@@JamesJohnson-kl1eu AOE4 was such a disappointment. Everybody in every forum didn't like those graphics and art style, it certainly didn't look modern in the eyes of the community. Retold looks better imo, i mean the bar was really low after AOE4.

Almost everything has been reworked. God powers are now multi use (1st time free, 2nd time costs Favor), Norse can now build Ox Carts with vills, Atlanteans gain Favor via Oracles etc

Don't mistake graphics for engine.
Epic's Fortnite runs on their Unreal engine, yet it looks cartoonish compared to other Unreal engine games.
Also, AoE 4's engine has none of the features required for AoM whereas AoE 3's engine originally was AoM's engine.
