I'm astonished by how good the sound still is actually
I'm glad you noticed! Despite being such an old (and mono audio) set, it came stock with a full-range 10" speaker so it sounds great. Contrast this with most modern sets that ship with 1-2" tweeter speakers.
@MattPilz it's just like cars, there's no replacement for displacement.
@@este_marco Except there is, just like in the audio world. We now are evolving digital audio to a point where it's as good or better than analog audio. Yet we still appreciate the old more, which is not bad in my opinion.
@flynnieflapdrol1305 No, speakers and acoustics haven't really changed that much across the years. A big speaker is much better for the bass and a small speaker is better for the high tones. Also, the audio can be greatly improved by the cabinet that surrounds the speakers.
Besides that, the tv only amplifies. So, the audio that you hear is already decoded via a computer and the tv just amplifies it.

But that could be my own experience from word of mouth; was raised my grandma and she was born in 51, even had the privilege of knowing her mom, we had a great relationship until leukemia took her. I blame the asbestos.
People not born or not raised by people born in that period; really have no idea how much of a different world it truly was in those days. The attention to detail oh my.... even crops out the bottom right corner at times
Danm it's crazy to believe the "VI" logo shows on its entirety at the screen
The trailer did a great job of keeping the important elements within the 4:3 ratio so it looks decent even on old sets.

If this trailer was released in 1956 people wouldn’t even comprehend that it’s game , they would think it’s real life, they would be real confused what they are seeing the entire trailer lmao
Its insane how good the speakers are on that TV
Yeah most tv's from 1940's - 2004 had great speakers. Cheap crappy flatscreens have tiny speakers, thats why soundbars are popular
@@crazywarp36yeah, i always felt like crt's had better speakers, i personally grew up with a sony trinitron and my 1st flatscreen was actually a sony bravia, one of the 1st bravias that came out back when plasma tv's were a thing, that bravia was lcd but its speakers tho they were not as good as my childhood tv but that 2008 sony bravia flatscreen will blow out of the park any new flatscreen, nowadays im rocking a hisense tv and its speakers sound worse than my phone speakers which made me buy a pair of shelve speakers that made it sound like the good old crt tv's from my childhood
@@Valay.your Bravia would be an LCD panel non LED lit which is way worse than the current OLED and QLED TVs from Sony or Samsung.
This is why we remember older games as much more realistic than they actually looked. The lower resolution gave the graphics more margin of error to trick our brains. Here, someone from the 50s would think that the trailer was a movie.
It's very true for all CRTs and why most people's memories playing old consoles are much stronger than how they look trying the same on modern pixel-perfect displays. Games in the 80s-2000s were even designed around these older style sets and took advantage of color bleeding and scanline behavior to make them look really good. These days there are some clever shaders and OLED displays that can mimic a lot of those artifacts well, but I still prefer the originals (and zero latency).
My grandparents told me they saw this back then and was waiting for years for this ti come out. Wow
This is so incredibly well done
I love how it doesn't even fully fit into the screen 😂
Yeah because its widescreen not 4:3. 4:3 is square, which is ussally better for television
Black and white TVs were 5:4, so there's even more cut off, then add overscan on top of that and you're not even seeing a quarter of the picture.
Imagine being a little kid in the 50’s, you’re flipping through the 5 channels on your family’s television set, and suddenly you get this random signal from a different time, and it broadcasts this trailer. You honestly probably wouldn’t even be able to tell it wasn’t real people. Video games wouldn’t even exist for around 20 more years.
The first video game came out in the 1950s.
@@DreGamer true but the first commercially successful video game was pong on the Atari in 1972. So while “video games” existed, they didn’t really exist in the scope of the average person. You knew what I was going for lmao.
@@N3XUS_T4RG3T your claim was “video games wouldn’t even exist for around 20 more years.” That was incorrect. It is awesome to see so many comments praising the audio quality. I hadn't even considered that when I made this, but it's true the speaker in this set is way higher fidelity than modern sets especially for bass. It makes me appreciate more why many old consoles like this also integrated a radio or record player, cause the sound was so good.

Man i remember playing gta 3 back from 1929 and when vice city came out in 1931 and san andreas in 1936 and gta 4 in 1946 and gta 5 in 1951
When I was younger, I used to play GTA V on my PS3. Sometimes, I couldn't use the TV in the living room, so I used to take the console to my room, where I had a smaller TV. The thing is that the TV in my room lacked one of the inputs needed for one of those colored cables the PS3 had, so I was forced to play the game in Black and White. This is exactly what it looked like.
when I was younger, I 've used to play GTA 1, it was late 1997.
I heard the game will have color, ngl crazy if it does
a timetraveler needs to take this to 1956 and halfway thru elvis's
infamous hip-shaking performance they'll hijack all televisions
in the U.S to broadcast this ; it would ffkk up the timeline so bad xD
Finally someone managed to capture a crt without flicker
B&W sets are generally easier to capture than colored because they are pretty consistent at 60 Hz. But so many monitors and colored sets can be off by +/- 1 Hz and the whole NTSC 29.97 FPS ordeal. I've been testing some modifications to Open Camera (Android) to support granular adjustments of the refresh rate from 59-61 Hz in 0.01 increments, similar to what some high end DSLRs offer with their flicker compensation.
Crazy thing is the graphics still hold up! Just goes to show how impressive Rockstar Games are as developers when their game still looks great on a tv from the 1950s
I've done some Red Dead Redemption 2 on it as well and it feels like watching an old western movie. They are amazing at what they do!
Back in the early 2000s I had a small 10" TV that had this quality. It picked up signals from its antenna. I'd watch the Bernie Mac show, Everybody loves Raymond, Fraiser, 2 Half Men, Family Guy and The Simpsons. I had it attached to headset speakers that went under my pillow and the TV would be on my night stand. I'd forget I'm looking at horrible quality and get easily get immersed.
Had black and white lamp TV as second TV in my home till 1994. Can confirm that news and movies in that TV looked exactly like seen here. And TV lamp warming up as well. In eighties you would play this trailer on B/W TV as trailer of new action movie and no one would recognize that something is wrong. By the way do something with surrounding color creeping into last third of scenery in TV screen.
I like that the trolleybus digests 60 frames per second. The image is very smooth... And unnatural, like for a video from the 60s.
it looks and feels like a real tv show
Black people everywhere, no segregation, lots of nudity, rock and roll music, and sexual content. If this was in 1956 it would get banned quickly and people would be outraged saying something like “what the hell is a rockstar games and what is this sinful garbage that I saw on my television?!?” This for sure wouldn’t be allowed back then I bet.
Woke up from the grave just to watch this. Will wake up again un 2025. Goodbye.
