@@hassantalib3426 you can't switch maps on the MHD, it was running max power as it was. Another plus of the JB4 you can wind them down on the fly if you have too much power to launch.
Cheers guys, intake might have given an extra tickle as well. Wheel and tyre weight diff will impact as well. I went from Cobb to mhd in my FBO 135 , picked up 14 hp , stronger torque especially in the lower rpm so just more grunt down low . Tapered off sooner after 6000 rpm but power not needed there as a road car. 🏎
Yeah, that seems to be the general thoughts on MHD, the way it feels to drive is just wicked. Its a very nicely refined tune. Not to mention so bloody cheap.
0-100kph is not a good test for performance gain, it's usually just a traction test. You can have the much lower hp and slower car hooks better and get a better 0-100. Yall need to do 100-200 to take away the traction factor then you will know which one truly is faster
Completely agree if you are just testing power. But there is still matter of how the cars off the line. And there’s much more data out there on the 0-100 times, well it’s easier for most people to compare. I’m sure down the track the average petrol head will be familiar with 100-200 times of a lot of cars just off the top of their head. But even these 2 are pretty slow 100-200. Not many people have enough room to safely test it. Add another 200hp and you can get those 100-200 times in a much shorter distance.
Well done for posting these vids. I am running an MHD stage 1plus on my 2007 335i. I have an upgraded intercooler and charge pipe. I gave my intakes a clean and the crud in there was nasty to say the least. Perhaps an intercoller upgrade and a walnut blast of the intake ports could be next, then you can take the MHD from stage 1 to stage 1 plus. That should be good for 370ish hp on 98.
Yes, you have pretty much guessed it. The owner of the MHD car is doing intercooler, charge pipe and a trans service. Depending on how the trans feels after the service, he may also put XHP on. MHD is really hard to beat value for money wise, totally changes the cars character. Have you had yours for long? Also 10 points on finding the video before its officially live haha.
Great Video guys, always interesting to see a comparison of different tuning methods, Agree with John Herbert Walnut blasting does make a difference especially with high mileage cars due to carbon build up on these direct injection engines, Intake, XHP, Walnut blast and Intercooler upgrade 👌 Not sure if the charge pipe has been done, but those plastic ones crack or blow under higher than stock boost levels. Then it's the downpipes for stage 2, which will take the car to well over 400bhp.

Hi there, i am all the way from Recife in Brazil South America, and I really liked your video, very informative and all, thank you for sharing it with us…
Yes we do agree, which is why we made the comment at the start of the video, regarding the cars being different. We did think about the differences and how they would impact times and whether it was "fair" before doing the video. The reality is there are very rarely two modified cars that are exactly the same. The JB4 car was running XHP. But the MHD car had much better tyres, you can launch the MHD car at 2000rpm and it hooks up. The JB4 car will spin the wheels badly if you launch at 2000rpm. Both cars would be running very similar boost at this rpm range. After accurately timing around 500 0-100kmh times on the street in nearly 100 different cars, the differences in these times is so close it's nearly irrelevant as a comparison of performance. The JB4 gives the users an advantage being able to run specific boost curves and hold what ever boost you want to redline. The MHD is the safer of the two keeping that and other adjustability out of the hands of people who don't understand what they are doing. But MHD is generally giving a better driving experience, not to mention much cheaper. We should have summarised better in the video, we are definitely still learning how to best do this type of filming. For someone that isn't mechanically minded MHD is the better option hands down, it's cheaper and just works every time. If you want to learn about tuning, and whats going on in a N54 when you start winding the boost up the JB4 is a great platform to learn yourself. The downside being more complex, if you don't learn, you can really ruin how a car feels when incorrectly adjusting settings in the JB4.
cool test but its really a jb4 vs flash only test. dme boost control vs isolated boost control.. mhd is just the flashing tool ( which is also used to flash the jb4 tune) no mention of what Backend flash the jb4 car has (im assuming BMS not wedge) and no mention of what stage 1 mhd (im assuming wedge though). The wedge backend flash wouldve been a more fair comparison as its the same tuner as the mhd car and theyre both paid tunes instead of free tune vs paid
All very good points 👌 To clarify they are both running OTS tunes as that is what most guys are using when they first start out modding. Wedge do write the OTS maps for MHD only users, this was tested with the OTS default map on MHD. The JB4 car is on the BMS Pump BEF, which is free but the JB4 is quite a bit more expensive than the MHD only option. Both cars were tested when they were both at a very early stage of modifications. We still think each setup is probably what most MHD users will do first and the same for JB4 users.

Not recommended for hard use, like track days. But a few pulls for 5-10 seconds without letting the engine get too hot is fine. The JB4 was running on the pump back end flash, which is a relatively safe flash. If you are going to try it yourself, do some logs and throw them up on N54tech, they will pretty quickly tell you if its safe on your car.
So a car with cold air intake (adds 15-20hp) has xhp software that locks the torque converter earlier and shifts faster than stock on a stage 1 map is faster than a car that's completely stock and just has a stage one map. 🤣🤣 and you wonder why it's faster? The reason you are getting wheel spin with the car with xhp is because the torque converter locks up earlier thus no slippage and power loss through drivetrain. Not because of the tires. The non xhp lets the torque converter slip till higher up in the rev range before locking up. Essentially its like side stepping a clutch on a manual car or releasing it gradually. Also the quicker the gearbox shifts the quicker the acceleration. It's not rocket science. I am willing to bet if you do only xhp software on the MHD car with DCI it will be faster due to a better tune.
@@ZeroTo60Tube The shifts on the xhp car is les smooth because it locks up the torque converter from 2nd gear under acceleration hence the snappier shifts. The stock gearbox software still allows for torque converter slippage hence a smoother shift and more comfortable drive downside is a slower shift and acceleration but easier to launch. If you get the highest xhp map it almost shifts as fast as the dct gearbox. Generally to take full advantage of a xhp tune is to fit a LSD. With full torque converter lockout under hard acceleration you run into traction issues as you have seen. Fitting a limited slip differential enables the car to put the power down to the ground. Simply fitting a lsd to a stock 335i will drop the 0-60 times into the 4 second range as it allows for harder launches without breaking traction.
I just wondered if you could pick up that the shift solenoids were no good as the xHP shifts in this video were terrible. That’s all. Appreciate the comments, none the less. Drive safe and keep learning 👌
When you time a car accurately with zero roll out and 2 people in the car (we do this as more of a real world test) they are often slower than people realise. A lot slower. I have done a 3.9 with a OBD data logger tho... the obd timers are way off by the way.

These guys are funny , at the end they mention the jb4 car has XHP lol .. which is the most important thing in a drag race or drag time , it’s all about how fast the transmission shifts.. so yeah the jb4 is pretty good but a full flash like MHD is better
You also ran a JB4 with MHD BEF? How did that feel in comparison to the others and what was the time like?
thoughts on doc vu vs jsrtuning for 19t custom e40 tune ?
It was probably the tires that made a difference
i think it wouldve been more fair if they both had the intakes
Honestly intakes mean close to nothing on stock turbos. If one had a drop in high flow filter and the other had a complete intake system at stage one. They'd be the same.
Shifting on the first one seemed weird
Also what I was talking about in your last video rev it up to 2k rpm and it launches harder
It will but it will may also spin. We have launched this car probably 100 times with the vbox, what you see in the vids is the fastest on the day. Sometimes what feels quicker isnt actually quicker according to the vbox.
sevenforce stage1 from 0-100 4.6sec
I’m running mhd stage 2+ and I also have a jb4 tune that I don’t use. I’m trying to figure out what recipe would make my car the fastest. Jb4 with mhd bef? Jb4 only? Or just stay with stage 2+
If you are basic on the hardware mods. MHD v5 is the most aggressive off the shelf tune.

i have JB4 but you will not gonna like it when you get drivetrain malfunction error + missfire, ask any JB4 user they will tell you the truth
Because of JB4? Or because you forgot to go one step colder plugs and new coils when you installed it?

My 335xi does 0-100km in 5.3 dead stock
Thats super quick. Mind you i bet x drive really helps with the launches, no worries about wheel spin even on a full stalled up launch.

@@ZeroTo60Tube Ah ok - i felt brake could have been released at around 3000rpm instead of 2000rpm which feels a bit low, will have an experiment on mine when i get the chance...!
What app are you using in blue
Its vBox sport app. You do need a vBox sport to use it, which is a bit exxy. We have been playing with a friends dragy which is 1/3 of the price of the vBox, we would probably recommend that over the vBox.
What app is used for that data logging?
We used a vbox to time the runs. The app is called vbox sport.
Well wouldnt having different motors also be an issue?
Do you mean amounts of wear on the motors?
@@ZeroTo60Tube no, as in one being n55 an the other n54
That would make a huge difference, however These are both N54s. Both cars are 2008 models. N55 didn’t come out until around 2011 from memory.
@@ZeroTo60Tube thanks for that clarification
I feel like theses cars are so much quicker then this cause I have an 09 335ix manual tune stage one plus MHD and mine does it low 4’s and sometimes mid 3’s and all I have is an intake and everything else is stock but also this is during colder weather cause I live in New York

BMW e90 N54 in for some proper mods! This car came in tuned already and misfiring because of insanely strong tune and the only hardware being a downpipe. Hows dinan stage 2 stack up?
Unfortunately we haven't been in a stage 2 Dinan car. From what we have read the Dinan tunes are a little more relaxed than MHD, but haven't seen them side by side.
Try RFP tuning free maps vs Mhd
We do want to do this. We might do it with the black car. What maps would like to see compared. The black car is now nearly FBO.

Have you had issues with the JB4?
if thats the case, just get MHD. i had issues with JB4. engine lights, codes etc. Went JB4 bef. car drove a lot better.. Sold the jb4, got MHD licenses. Much better overal, although i like the JB4 app better. Now im MHD with a custom tune, it blows the off the shelf maps out of the water
@@TrapN54Tv for me, part throttle and overall cruising around. It doesn't feel lazy. I'd just go and get a custom tune done right away.
stock has 5.5s 😀
I thought that. Somehow slower than stock
yes but not with 2 persons on board😂
Map 2 on almost stock car? Is that a safe map for no mods?

What do you think about the shifts displayed in this video on the XHP car vs the non XHP car?
My stock 335is will do 4.7. Why are these so slow?
When you time a car accurately with zero roll out and 2 people in the car (we do this as more of a real world test) they are often slower than people realise. A lot slower. My current N54 e92 car with 20psi, port injection and full e85 is yet to break 4.6 0-100kmh when tested this way. I have done a 3.9 with a OBD data logger tho... the obd timers are way off by the way.
comes down to driver mod i guess
There's really not a lot in it. They really are so close that in a traffic light drag race it could either way.
Juice box !
Not too many people remember that name.... haha
Jb3 yes haha
DCI with tune adds 30whp alone definitely not fair

Fair point. The MHD car has now gone quicker in our latest video with the new version 9 maps. I really think MHD works better with the autos than a JB4 does anyway.
