To tension the rope reverse the vehicles. Blue Wrangler up top and in park. The white one in neutral at the bottom of the hill. That way the dude doesn't have to walk backwards uphill. I just bought the 2S Plus for $299 shipped using the code 4WD.
When I installed mine I ran the wire up the right side of the passenger side headlight. I had enough wire. I used the Rugged Ridge Arcus bumper. I didn’t really like the way it fit. With the control wires coming out of the back, they are smashed up against my grill. The wires exposed like they are doesn’t really look clean either. Granted this is half the cost of a warn winch, so I guess you get what you pay for.
A couple questions- I’m not a Jeep or winch owner - Is necessary to spool (guide) the cable when the winch is in operation? Is it not really dangerous to hold the cable while it is under tension? If something broke you could get hurt. Thanks
No don’t touch the cable while it is under heavy load but you need to stop if you see the cable getting too bunched up in one area. Once you’re finished winching then pull it all out and spool it just under your tension.
have you guys had these things under pressure like out in the woods- It looks great though- just wondering if any parts are available? not sure what- last time I bought a winch Jimmy Carter was president-lol.
I’ll be honest all three of these winches that we’ve installed are still in operation so I’m guessing they’re fine but I have no idea about getting replacement parts because none of them have needed anything.
Hey guys i have that wrench on my truck the screws that hold the controller on top have fallen out all 4 of them. Openroad want replace says they dont have extra screws they also say the controller doesnt come mounted to the wrench so just a heads up watch the screws.
Majority of vehicles battery location is in the front corner of the engine bay, along with the fuse box for easier access. The cable length wouldn't have been a problem if the battery wasn't at the firewall. I feel your frustration though.. Nice job on the video 👍
As much as I want to repurchase a rucRak a winch is my next purchase. I finally ordered headlights and taillights a couple days ago. But the winch is something I’m really gonna need mud season soon. I’ll check out openroads 9,500 cause my 2 door don’t need a 13k.
I wanted to watch this video but I can't find a way to skip the adds that all go for several minutes. It's not your fault it's happening on heaps of videos recently, which I also consequently did not watch.
RUclips just changed how they play ads on videos and I think it’s pretty annoying. I’m sorry they are feeling the videos up I promise they’re not there when we post them lol.
When I got my 2023 jl I went to move my winch to it and the cords were too short just like this I think the JL measurements must just be slightly different. Anyway I messaged the company to ask if this has been fixed they said the wires measure 6ft. Any idea if that long enough? I dont know how to extend them I am not that handy so prefer to order something with the correct length. If you have an idea the length of the ones you installed that would be helpful!
@@chaise2174really that opinion is mainly because I've seen them take TONS of abuse on the trails so I trust the longevity BUT the Openroad could actually be identical inside but everything just feels more heavy duty or protected with the construction on the Badlands but I could be wrong.
Think of error is factory cut wrong length each wire black to positive , red to negative probably may want switch them around sounds goofy but understand what you are saying someone at factory goofed cutting wrong power wires .
Great work guys!!! I appreciate your videos. I’ll get there someday.
Thanks for your support!

Nice!
However you never want to winch in park.
Great video. You always make any job fun to watch!
Thanks I thought it was horribly boring!
Any up dates on its reliability?
Hey it’s still going strong but he’s only used it a handful of times.
Nice work have fun in the NC play grounds
Thanks!

Supposedly, they are going to make the power wire longer in the new models

@@DownSouth_Adventures Thanks for the reply- That is a pretty good-looking winch and seems to be working fine- I'm ordering one today
@@vicc6744 yep it's the 3rd one we've installed. Enjoy it buddy!
On my truck I ran the wire to where the starter wire that hook to battery
Great idea

Yeah you definitely need a winch buddy!
What do you guys use for navigation?? Do you have a video on that?? Love your content
In the beginning we used Gaia but now we LOVE OnX off-road.
Do you share your tracks ?

6 feet sounds long enough but honestly go with the BADLANDS from harbor freight it’s amazing and I had no issues with length.
