Tree Support Posts

- Using a post pounder tool, some treated wood posts, and some rubber straps to support my standard rose trees (which are topheavy and leaning badly) and my laburnum tree (which is just prone to rocking in the wind). The only video I'm likely to post where you can't accuse me of talking too much!
If you find these videos useful, there are a few little things you can do to help me out:

What a relaxing video. I have some trees that look drunk too.
I really like this video how you did everything without talking. Great idea!
Those pictures were worth 1,000,000,000,000,000 words! Thank you.
Man of few words. Such a good, cool dude. Loved your vid!
Thank you Jason great ideas with the tires too
Hi Jason! Cat got your tongue?! Lol
I always wear hearing protection when I use a post driver, even if the posts are wooden...but I'm older and more deaf than you. In fact, maybe I just couldn't hear the narration, lol. Just teasing you!
Felt a little sick of hearing my own voice at the time, but I swear I'll soon be over it!
that was my observation as well- I'm the worst when it comes to such things, but this is one job I wear some hearing protection for.
Wow! You made that look so easy! What time can I hope you will drop by to help me? I have to tilt my head to make my tree rise look straight 🙄
Rubber bungies - genius!
Hi Jason, nice hammer! Thought you got that out of a bicycle parking lot. Nice work out, cheers!
That’s what I want tree roses. How did you grow them like that? Do you have a video growing tree roses?
Thanks - I have a video on some of the pruning steps, but not the grafting (which is not something I've done): ruclips.net/video/PpauYSfi8-4/видео.html
Your videos are great! I’ve learnt so much, thank you for taking the time. Which rose varieties were they that you can cut back hard and they will flower again? I’m from the UK where we don’t usually do summer pruning but I’m now working in gardens in Italy where everything grows much faster and flowers for longer so the varieties of roses and pruning techniques seem to be similar to yours in Canada. Any time you want to do a video on summer pruning it would be very helpful ; )
I picked up a post hole hand auger from Tractor Supply that can do a small hole like for these posts in just a few minutes. It's a lot less work and over the course of the day it's probably faster. Best $25 I have spent in a long time.
Great find! I should look into it for later - I'm going to have to replace posts for my perimeter fence within the next year or two.
Yep, much better !!! ❤️
What a beautiful colour, that dark red! Was this a particularly windy season for you there, that caused the leaning?
Hi Linda - yes, we get SW wind intermittently through most of the summer, and then a strong NE wind when it gets bad in winter. I find my trees and shrubs tend to lean as pushed by the summer wind (I guess because they're in active growth at the time), but the laburnum tree rocks back and forth between the two.
Impressive sir
What is that red thing that you used to ram down the wooden steak into the ground?
It's called a post driver / fence post driver
@@akyde1552 Thank you
Noticed your "garden spade" That a tool often the last to get but probably should be the first for someone with a yard.
Thanks John. No doubt - I use it for everything, from digging trenches to weeding!
I can dig it. Jah bless!
Jason, that Laburnum is staked way too high; also it seems to be planted too deep.
Woody perennials (shrubs/trees) are best staked as low as possible to allow the top to move in the wind without uprooting it. That will stimulate the root flare to taper and allow the tree to stand on its own faster.
Thanks Lee-Roy. I'll lower the bungees
@@FraserValleyRoseFarm A foot or two max really. Same applies to your roses now that I've rewatched it :)
Why do you put tires around your trees?
Thanks Annette - we use it as a barrier to invading weeds and to protect the base of the roses from the lawnmower/string trimmer.
@@FraserValleyRoseFarm wow, thanks. Great idea.
Good, but if we don't have this tool???
A rubber mallet or hammer + good aim
@@kimberlyhallett7691 and someone who trusts you (aka stupid) to hold the post....
Lol
Ugh, staking, my least favorite but constant companion!
👍🏽😎🙏
