During my initial training as a vision technician at the BBC I was given a day in the Blakes 7 recording studio. Not only was it a lot of fun, but the whole of the cast were wonderful people and also treated the crew wonderfully ( myself, at that time without a clue, included). On camera some came across as tough, but off camera were lovely. A credit to what good actors they were. I feel privileged to have been able to sit and talk to them.
I say Blakes seven was well awesome in billions of ways, and also the female arch-enemy and returning arch-villain Servalan was awesome in billions of ways and she was so iconic like Avon and Vila she is the only main cast member to last for the whole 4 seasons of B7.
You are trying to educate a mass who suggest HEMEEE and SEMEYE...and would crap themselves over a hemidemisemiquaver...so they call it a 64th note to make it easy.
Absolutely right about Paul Darrow. He played his character so well - was he committed to the cause, or just in it for what he could get out of it? He always came through, but you were never sure if he would. There's a great book called The Devil in the Marshalsea by Antonia Hodgson. The Marshalsea was a prison that existed from 1373 to 1842. If you had money life wasn't so bad, if you didn't it could be brutal. It's a cracking read, with a hero (Tom Hawkins) and a sly, enigmatic character (Samuel Fleet) who may or may not be all he seems. Every time Fleet turned up I saw and heard Paul Darrow in my head! It was just like Avon had gone back in time.
As I recall they went to dig him up after recording the scene where Avon buried him in the forest and they couldn't locate him. Still missing to this day. I'm joking, of course.
I absolutely loved the series when it was originally aired - and still do! I was privileged to meet many of the surviving cast at a convention a few years ago. Realistically it was a simple translation of the D&D fantasy trope - Paladin (Blake), Wizard (Avon), Rogue (Vila), Barbarian (Gan), Sorceress (Cally) etc. with cheap BBC special effects, but for a young Sci-Fi fan it was unmissable. Avon was my favourite character but I really loved the ship (Liberator) and its its temperamental computer (Zen). Very British and of its time but still a huge favourite 😁
For U.S. fans of B-7, the BBC is going to be selling Blu-Ray DVDs compatible with U.S. players, available after Dec 10th, 2024 on the BBC U.s. home website (finally!)
Anyone covering Blake's 7 immediately earns my respect. I will say though that I believe Jan Chapel didnt reprise her role due to being booked on another job as all of the cast were unaware that B7 had been commissioned for a 4th series (they inly found out whilst watching the finale of season 3 on TV). It was Sally that left due to being dissatisfied with her role being diminished.
Steven Pacey is also awesome at performing audiobooks. Listen to the First Law series by Joe Abercrombie as an example, simply fantastic.

I saw Steven Pacey in a West End musical, decades ago now. I think it was West Side Story, it was so long ago I can't remember exactly. He's so talented, he had/has an amazing singing voice.
The character of Cally, was almost certainly based on the fugitive terrorist, Astrid Proll. Like Cally, Proll was the only survivor of her band and at the time when her character was being written, was presumed to be planning some final, apocalyptic act. When Cally, first appeared in early 1978, Astrid Proll has been discovered - working as a welder at a garage in Hackney, East London.
Interesting - Watching a video about the cast from series set in an almost Orwellian dystopian future, and RUclips feeds me a Bill Gates advert before it 🤔
I think if your typecast in acting you or the show did really well, unfortunately for the rest of you career. What is the thing with 78 for men passing.
After series B GT said he’d only come back for a death scene (to kill the character off) which is why he reprises the role in the series C finale and it’s explained that he had died. When series D was commissioned he again came back but this time was confirmed killed on screen with blood to ensure Blake was finally dead although the series did confirm the existence of clones, including several clones of Blake and Servalan’s offspring.

You could argue that Blakes7 was all about Villa. He took sides with whoever he thought would keep him alive.

As a teen, i fancied Servalan something rotten!🤩😍
I always preferred Jenna myself.
@@edwardfreeman7512 Hmmm.i get where you are coming from!😂😂
@@oggie1967 Cally for me
Mate, who didnt! 👍
Where is the absolute goddess Glynis Barber ?
In the UK z is pronounced zed. Zed cars. Steven Pacey is a very accomplished reader of audio books. A pleasure to listen to.

Paul Darrow did the voice over for some radio adverts for our business back in the early 2000s, I was so chuffed
What about Soolin? (The gorgeous Glynis Barber)? 😮
she was hot but honestly servalan just was awesome, i dont know if its the character or not but damn she was sexy
Paul Darrow was fantastic
Ok we had shuddering spaceships, Matt Irvins special effects work was not the best but Paul Darrow made that series.

A great sci fi series. Shows what good acting can achieve.
Why no Glynis Barber?
What happened to Orac?
Complaints by many women during the “Me too” movement - still in jail unfortunately 😢
Orac and Zen went on to found Microsoft!
As I recall they went to dig him up after recording the scene where Avon buried him in the forest and they couldn't locate him. Still missing to this day. I'm joking, of course.
I don't think this video covers the whole cast. What about Glynnis Barber. I think she became a regular.

This was great thankyou
This was superb thankyou
It's ZED cars , not ZEE cars, elswise good work
Michael Keating worked extensively in theatre in the 2000s. He did a lot of British Council sponsored productions overseas.

already preordered it
Zee cars ?!! 😂😂
Haha! 😅 Please forgive the Americanism! 🙏
@@HollywoodRevisitedit's perfectly understandable 😂

How about Travis?
Yes - both actors who played the role of travis brought something to it.
This is actually very well researched.
Paul Darrow was excellent as Avon im currently reading his Lucifer trilogy of Blakes 7 books a fantastic read for fans of the show.
Reboot: OK. The whole 4th season was a dream. Avon (Tom Cruise) wakes up on the Liberator ...
What programme is 'zee cars'?

Paul Darrow was also in Dr Who, several times, as did Keating.
Twice

That would be By Jeeves. I have on CD. I was so surprised at Steven's talent and comedic chops.

Genna everytime, a lovely woman
Gareth Thomas isnt alive anymore
Passed away in 2016.
The caption says just that in the first minute of the video

All those who have died, have died in their 70s, slightly worrying.
I think if your typecast in acting you or the show did really well, unfortunately for the rest of you career. What is the thing with 78 for men passing.
You missed a few!
Jacqueline Pearce was an absolutely stunning woman
Must have been one of the first series that the titular character gets killed off relatively early.
He got killed off in the final episode.

Orac was the star of the show lol
I always.wanted.tonbe with Jaqueline Pearce a gorgeous woman.
We say zed the yanks say zee I like the zed zed zzr1100 but not zed zed top it sounds much better as zee zee top, enought said?.
"Zee Cars" - hah. Might want to get someone who speaks British-English.
That’s "Zed Cars", not "Zee Cars”! Shame; this inappropriate Americanism rather spoils an otherwise good, interesting documentary.
Oric was the star!
“Zee Cars”? 🙄
You WOULD have to mention RACE; can't people just be people...
Typical American irs Zed cars not Zee cars
I was born in 61 and regarded this as complete rubbish except for Servalan.
She was as bad at acting as the rest of them but desperately sexy.
Blakes 7 was pretty good, the actors not so.
