The way LaMelo plays and his stats, this is how most of us imagine ourselves being in the league.

3 very important things you can tell about a player early on: Whether they have a feel for the game, what their basketball instincts are, and whether or not they're confident. He certainly checks all 3 of those boxes.
Going forward it's about 1) staying healthy and 2) seeing what his work ethic is like in regards to improving his all around game and his body. If those two factors work in his favor the way the first 3 already do he'll be a superstar.

my favorite player ive watched was kobe. i am in my early 30s. since kobe retired there has been no one who caught my attention or got me excited to watch a game more than lamelo. him and giannis have revitalized my interest in the nba.
sure other players might be get better stats right now or get more wins, but no other player has got me excited to watch game after game to see what they would do next on the court with their creativity. he has that personal style that he made for himself similar to how a lot of players in the 80s, 90s, and 00s had. im talking like kobe, tmac, AI, VC, dirk, timmy, barkley, hakeem, etc. they had their own moves and styles of doing them.
a lot of players today can straight up play, but how they all play look very similar to each other; like they all learned from the same person. the only other player off the top of my head where i can say has a very distinct style is giannis.
i understand what i just said might sound like im a old hater.
melo since he was the youngest of his brothers saw how they already developed, so was likely given more freedom to make what he wanted. he also had a very diverse career already very different from the AAU-College-NBA route.
as a laker lifer, melo is the truth.

I don't agree about Gianni's as its just the lane and dunk that stand out, everything else he does the same(same as what you said like they've all learnt from Jordan the same thing, but for pure fun and not stats, he is just fresh to watch, sure Luka is good and booker young and has some mad stats, but just to watch, it's like he's Golden state the team but just him, I love the his behind the back passes and the way when he's free he looks behind him for like one second to see if a Charlotte player is trailing and then lobs it up for him, plus a lefty shot, and he makes some curry like shots on the run and turn, real snappy, drifting sideways out the arena, throws it up and still sticks it

There isn't a more exciting player, his step back is deep, and the dime stopping, yep, lay ups through ten arms, yep, passing he's just excellent at, and his handles are silky and fast, the spin moves 🤫🤣🤣, they you don't see as good as that often, to make a player go one way then the other, he does better than most, I will say as a hornets fan, even if we don't, or he don't get a ring, he is definitely a new age player like a guy in this comments said "that street ball" type play, like Rucker park, players showing you what they really have for game when they can unwind, and in off season you see lots of players do this but rarely bring it to the court, it's so refreshing
