3 very important things you can tell about a player early on: Whether they have a feel for the game, what their basketball instincts are, and whether or not they're confident. He certainly checks all 3 of those boxes. Going forward it's about 1) staying healthy and 2) seeing what his work ethic is like in regards to improving his all around game and his body. If those two factors work in his favor the way the first 3 already do he'll be a superstar.

my favorite player ive watched was kobe. i am in my early 30s. since kobe retired there has been no one who caught my attention or got me excited to watch a game more than lamelo. him and giannis have revitalized my interest in the nba. sure other players might be get better stats right now or get more wins, but no other player has got me excited to watch game after game to see what they would do next on the court with their creativity. he has that personal style that he made for himself similar to how a lot of players in the 80s, 90s, and 00s had. im talking like kobe, tmac, AI, VC, dirk, timmy, barkley, hakeem, etc. they had their own moves and styles of doing them. a lot of players today can straight up play, but how they all play look very similar to each other; like they all learned from the same person. the only other player off the top of my head where i can say has a very distinct style is giannis. i understand what i just said might sound like im a old hater. melo since he was the youngest of his brothers saw how they already developed, so was likely given more freedom to make what he wanted. he also had a very diverse career already very different from the AAU-College-NBA route. as a laker lifer, melo is the truth.

That being said, the kid is incredible: he has helped transform the Hornet's into an exciting team and his game is spectacular. I just don't know if he can be called a superstar yet when he only averages 20 ppg.
