Putin is in a wild and crazed mental disarray. Still he is crafty and strategic, but now Putin faces too many catastrophic eruptions in every direction. He's nonetheless going to pretend Russia is powerful enough to continue the Ukraine war, and also step up in Syria. He probably cannot. But he's going to try, because failure for Putin likely means arrest and possibly execution by his own forces. Let's not fall for his crazed propaganda. He's pretending to wield the power on a USA or China level while he really only has the resources of Italy. He gets away with this because he has hundreds of nuclear weapons inherited from the Soviet Union. (Have you noticed that even minor tiny nations like the pathetic North Korea MUST be taken seriously if they have nuclear weapons?)
So for example: It is likely that Trump is finished pretending he loves and admires Putin. Trump already phoned Putin on November 6 and apparently warned him to make peace with Ukraine or USA will arm Zelensky to the teeth. Terrified by this prospect, Putin has already reacted with renewed teeth gnashing and saber rattling in a pretense of a great power. Military analysts and especially Trump see through this act. I'm betting Trump will stand up strong against Putins desperate pretense.
Looks like the pretense is going to start in Syria. Putin is replacing his failed Russian military commander in Damascus with somebody more aggressive. Russia has crucial naval and Air Force bases on the Syrian Mediterranean coast, granted to him by Asad. Soon we'll find out if Putin has the power to bail out poor old Assad, and keep those Russian bases.

Dictators will never learn anything. When the Syrian people rose up to oppression in 2011, they were clearly not against the Assad regime but simply asking for reforms, reforms which they wanted Bachar to be responsible for. Let us not forget that Bachar started off with his presidency fairly on a good footing, he wanted reforms especially his being a UK educated doctor. Even his generals discounted him that he wouldn't last 6 months after his taking over his deceased old man. But Bachar committed a fatal mistake in 2011, he listened to his oligarchs and aging generals, he started shooting live bullets at peaceful protesters, then that's when the armed uprising started against him and his regime. Very sadly, the Free Syrian Army lost ground and momentum to some of the dirtiest coward Jihadists and that was when world sympathy returned back to Bachar. Now Bachar seems to be doing the same mistake again, instead of using diplomacy, he has called on his crumbling Russian friends and Iran. The Russians know only one thing, carpet bombings and waves of human canon fodder as seen them doing miserably in Ukraine. Iran is a true coward, it never fights anyone directly, it uses its Arab puppet proxies like id did in Gaza and Lebanon where its proxies got their butts seriously whipped hard. Now to come to Syria, both the Syrian regime and its Russian and Iranian allies need to know this well beyond doubt, that when a people rise, don't stand on their way, especially when they are backed by Turkey, the USA and Israel. The world is watching up and close, the world hopes that this time, the Free Syrian Army will do the job properly and prevent these ruthless Islamic radicals from taking over their sacrifices to bring Syria to democracy and the respect and protection of all minorities, if the Syrian Free Army can do that, then victory will be assured as the world will recognize it pronto. The best thing now is for Putin to give Bachar asylum in Russia, quite possibly he will also have to do the same for Iran's Mullah liars while awaiting Trump to help Putin have an honorable exit strategy from Ukraine.

He actually also learned this from Iranian mullahs in the 2009 Green Movement who also didn't learn and did it again 2017-2020 ish with the working class people which LOST them a ton of support and then again in Zan Zendegi Azadi movement.
