This Iron Man is ESSENTIAL. This is the Renaissance Armor from the 1998 Kurt Busiek/Sean Chen Heroes Return Run. It was featured prominently in the stories of the late George Perez's final Avengers run such as Ultron Unlimited. Been waiting 25 years for this figure. I'm happy to see him finally in figure form!
Yes this is definitely essential. Iron Man from the MCU wouldn't exist if not for Kurt Busiek, George Perez, and Sean Chen's bringing Iron Man back from the nightmare of Heroes Reborn (which ironically works as the perfect symbol for the bankruptcy Marvel was going through back in those days). If not for the Avengers getting popular and all the heroes getting a second wind, there wouldn't have been an Ultimates, Civil War, Mighty Avengers and Secret Avengers and definitely not the movies we have today. This one is so awesome to see FINALLY! I have to see what I can do about that head. Maybe someone can do a great custom sculpt to match the comics from the Heroes Return days. Like someone said, that evergreen youngish reimagining of Tony Stark with the goatee IS the Tony Stark most people know today!
Yes, I really want to build out that era of Avengers. I would be gobsmacked if they actually released Justice, Firestar, and Gypsy Scarlet Witch to round out the team.

I'm one of those that would gladly get every single Iron Man suit, I just wish Hasbro saved some of these headliner armors to headline Iron Man waves. I love getting Iron Man figures, but I'd also love to get figures of Iron Man characters who aren't just Iron Man himself. My only real gripe with this figure is that Hasbro could've used it as an opportunity to update the Iron Man buck with pinless joints so to bring something new to the table. As for unmasked heads, this would've been a perfect opportunity for that evergreen modern-looking Tony Stark face with the goatee, since it's around the time of this armor that he started sporting one. The Atmosphere Iron Man unmasked head is a decent approximation, but it'd be better to get a proper one.
Personally I love all these variations of Iron-Man, they are there for mega Iron Man fans who want every suit from the comics like myself. I actually love the unity of seeing a bunch of variants of the gold and red suits so this one was a real treat for me, absolutely essential suit too.
Not having hinged repulsor hands is a huge dealbreaker for me bc the peg doesn’t feel as firm and I did have some of them break on me before and it just isn’t as fun to pose
I've never had one break but they are indeed disappointing to me too. The problem with switching out some is that these actually look unique. Maybe some simple custom tooling could help?
I love getting all the different suits for my hall of armor. Plus most iron man figs don't come with baf pieces so if people don't want them they aren't forced to buy them
I do think that an Iron Man in every wave does get old, but I do always get them for a Hall of Amror display. I think they really should be left for waves that make sense to have them, or Hasbro needs to make a Hall of Armor boxset

I would like more unique design armours and some of his villains (Crimson Dynamo & Titanium Man from Armour Wars), but I don't mind some reuse for similar armours that make sense. Would I have liked unique sculpted cuffs on the shoulders, boots and gauntlets for the classic stealth armour? Hell yes! If this had been made pinless and had repulsor hands with hinges, it would be better still.
Yeah some alternate versions of Crimson Dynamo would be awesome. The BAF is missing some bits and some reuse of the Iron Monger, but it honestly helped get me into Legends since it actually offered an armored foe for Iron Man. I'd love to get a Marvel Legends Titanium Man especially if it were different than the Diamond Select model of the armor!
There is a painted version of the hologram headsculpt. It came with the all-new all-different Iron Man figure from 2018. I have it on my collection, very good Iron Man figure.
I don't mind the IM and Cap variants. I have no interest in this wave other than them and Karnak. I might grab the MCU figures on clearance to get the BAF pieces. However, are we ever going to get Heroes Reborn Cap with perspective defying pecs?! That's the one I really want.
I'm not the biggest Iron Man fan, I'll buy the modular armor any time they repaint it, but I definitely see the draw of wanting the full hall of armor. I dont have any attachment to this design but it's got a good look.
The solid figure cases were supposed to fix pegwarming, I just think Target etc. never got their computers set up right. What was happening with Classified (and presumably most lines) is they'd get an assortment in, one of them - Gung Ho - was undesirable, but only packed one per case. So they'd sell the other 5 figures and Gung Ho would sit on the peg. Their computer is set to order another case as long as they have, say, less than three Classified figures in inventory. So they get another case in and sell off the 5 that people want, now they have 2 Gung Hos on the peg. Computer orders again, the 5 sell, now they have 3 Gung Hos and the computer won't order any more cases until one of them sells. So the Gung Hos just sit there and no one ever sees any Alley Vipers or whatever on the peg because their computer isn't ordering any. With the solid cases, each figure is *supposed to* be tracked and ordered separately, so while you might have six Gung Hos sitting there, you can sell a case of Alley Vipers and get a fresh case in on the next delivery, over and over and over again. I just don't think they ever got their inventory/order points set up correctly. Also Target seems to want to clearance everything out after a few months anyway, so I'm not sure there's even enough time to establish a regular pattern.
I dunno, for some reason this figure just doesn't look right to me. I know it's supposed to be the Heroes Return armor, it just looks off to me. Extremis Armor's legs are way too long, and it's very noticeable in the comparison shot lol I still want an update of the Model 9 armor. The previous version (last released in the vintage/retro line) does not scale well with current figures. It's too small overall.
I nearly jumped out of my chair when you said it was basic XD just look at it man... Horns, pauldrons, piping, golden ridged sections and that super wierd chest piece. There is no other armor like this. Plus this one looks like the missing link between classic and modern iron man. Ps: what armor do YOU want ? More of the 21st century kind i am guessing ?
Iron Man has a lot of armors. I think it's time to just make some multipacks for the diehards. But it's easy to say too many Iron Man until Hasbro pulls out a more interesting design. As for everything else. Prices - I walk into my Target and all the figures are $30. Hasbro does not make $30 figures. They make $15-$20 figures. Between Neca and Mcfarlane you get much more bang for your buck. If either seriously addresses their articulation limitations and had a chance at the Marvel license.......... Worse if Bandai Figuarts or Mafex could sell directly in the US. Closed boxes - I can't trust in store boxes. Target is notorious for swaps. Hasbro's QC makes it extra difficult. MCU - Hasbro may not have have the suit design used in the movie. Not really their fault but Captain Marvel final battle suit is clearly not the last costume she had.
I always liked Tony Stark aka The Invincible Iron Man because he is cool, smart, and badass especially how he designs his so very own Iron Man armors in their unique ways, I'm not familiar with the storyline and I do think the armor design looks really cool but to me, I just get the Extremist Iron Man for my Iron Man armory.
At $25 each, I for one am being very picky on what I buy. And like a few baf’s of late I just do not care about the baf in this wave. I truly am only going to buy the three you mentioned. Cap, tony, Karnak. The rest I could care less.
We need the Space Armor classic or second, a new comic accurate original Hulkbuster, and the Deep Sea Armor! I'd like to see his first remote controlled armor as well, which is somewhat akin to the prototype version of the Modular Armor except with a big bricky chest.
It’s funny how my target does the legends case packs.. I’ve noticed they always don’t get one of the figures from a wave.. so most of the time you’ll never be able to complete a BAF from my target.. 🤷🏻♂️😂
Well there may be some collectors and kids that want to get as many type of iron man armor figure nothing wrong with that i think its good .i don't think its to many iron man figures .i think its fun .to collect all kinds of iron man . Until hasbro gets better at making the iron man figure and they have improved a lot compared to what we use to get in their iron Man figure years ago .i wish we got different color modular iron Man figures and different versions . Whats bad is Hasbro hasn't giving us a complete list of iron mans adversary . Of his past and present .now thats a bummer..
Gotta say, even movie figures aside, this is another boring wave of legends by the team…they either need to release less figures a year or give us better characters. Between the last X-men wave, the lame puff adder BAF, the boring antman wave, and the lake upcoming what if wave, 2023 is shaping up to be one of the worse year for legends. The Earth’s Mightiest sublime and Spider-Man 3 pack was really the only highlights from the legends line this year…I fear we’re headed towards another “dark times” for marvel legends…

All the Wolverine, Iron Man, and Spider-Man figures please. This is the sentient armor so it’s an interesting story.
The sentient portion is kind of reaching the end part of the storyline where it gets lame, but hey it's definitely better than some stories!
