One of my all time favorite fighters!! Most of his fights would be stopped today. He was NEVER out of a fight in his prime. It pains me to think he died virtually penniless and forgotten. I live in Harrisburg Pa and Philly is only a 2 hour drive. Had I known how to find him, I would have helped him in some way. They dont make them like him anymore. RIP
He was inspirational to me as a teenager. I’m glad he is being exposed to some younger folks. He made the absolute most out of what he had. You can’t ask more of that out of a man. Thanks Rich!
I watched Matt in many exciting fights in Philly at the old Spectrum fights…the man always gave it his all for the fans…it saddens me to see how his life turned out after boxing…homeless…bankrupt and dementia…when he was making money he was surrounded by people when the paychecks stopped so did the so called friendships…those people should rot in hell…R.I.P. Champ from just a Philly former kid that would take the subway from the Logan section sit in the cheap balcony seats just to see the Champ.
Miracle matt how can you not love that guy? Had a hollywood smile and just the toughest fuckin dude you could ever face. Also Rudy ortega reffereed my first pro fight in 1989! Yes i won! Also i traveled with his trainer mickey duff by train to wales as my brother fought joe Calzaghe there.
yeah I dont know why Chris Schenkle kept saying it hit the body? I think Saad may have intended it to be a body shot, but Pergaud leaned into it. Great punch
My first VHS tape I ever got was of prince naseem hamed it took me a month to get the money for it lol I was 7 or 8 already working but for next to nothing really lol
Oh I forgot to say my eldest boy who's the keen fighter he's now a commando in the royal marines, one of few there are not many Jamaican's or Rastafarians that have done it, proud of you son the pain is always worth it enjoy Norway I know it's hell the worst is out the way ❤️
Nothing better than watching a fight from the great Saad Muhamad, what a legend.

Saad, my preferred among the lightheavyweight of that era...a hero to me ❤❤❤

Sure thing, whitehurstcomic.
Probably the single best kayo punch Saad ever threw. It looked like Razor Ruddock's "smash" punch (hybrid hook/uppercut).
My favorite was the Mwale KO

Yeah it PATHETIC that he was abandoned as a child and when he won the championship his "family" came running back with their hands out! RIP Champ
Big fan of Saad Mohammed. Thanks for sharing

Yeah, Ortega was from Oakland, I believe. Saad was my favorite fighter as a kid.
Saad’s punches are rock hard in this fight.
I had this fight in my old VHS collection, but I never saw the pre fight segment. Thanks Rich!
Sure thing, Brian.
Matthew Franklin before he changed it great light heavy
Thanks for the video, RICH THE FIGHT HISTORIAN
My pleasure, abudujana
Thank you for this Rich. I've never seen the fight before. Very much appreciated. Bless up 👊
My pleasure, Nick.
Such a story. Abandoned child to prison to Champion to bankrupt and homeless to ALS.
What is ALS please ?

Thank you for the great content. 😊 👍
My pleasure, youngtrainingday
I saw Louis Pergaud fight Gary Mason.
I'm sure I saw this fight on ABC, but I remember nothing of this fight. The ko punch looked like it missed his body & only hit the chin.

Is this the late 70s early 80s Richie? I have heard of this fighter before never seen him fight though, until now my guy 👍
Body snatcher 👊
That's correct, 1980. Surprised you never heard of Saad, one of my all-time favorites.
@@RichtheFightHistorian I'd heard the name just never seen him fight I was born 83 missed a good era of boxing
