    Oh... you're here early. Welcome to Atrium.
    On May 2nd, a team of Navy SEALs launched a covert mission to Bin Laden’s secret compound, hidden in the hills of Pakistan. Their objective was clear: capture or kill the target. Here is what happened.
    This video is based on the official narrative of the raid. Over the years it has been revised and challenged. We hope you enjoy it!

    So, let me get this straight: Several helicopters hovered in close proximity to this building, for soldiers to rappel. One helicopter crashed, the other landed (which isn't done in like 2 sec either).. and then the soldiers actually worried about the noise of their explosives? 😂

    • @ffredalot
      @ffredalot 29 days ago +60

      Yes because even though the noise of the helicopters indicated that the soldiers had arrived, the explosives would have pinpointed their location.

    • @khanofkhans6546
      @khanofkhans6546 27 days ago +23

      You kind of have to try to put yourself in a situation like that. Yes, looking at it from outside eyes, it seems like enough noise was made already that it seems pointless to worry about other noise but no matter what you want to mitigate a bunch of noise happening. The helicopter crashing was loud enough.
      But they still managed to get in and do it and then have time to collect as much intel as they could, which I believe took 45 mins, before escaping. They were far enough ahead that when the Pakistani military sent 2 fighter jets to chase them, they managed to get to the Afghanistan border, which took 90 minutes from bin Laden's house, just before they caught up to them. So the amount of noise they caused, while loud and could have been the end of them, was just under the amount that would have gotten them caught earlier.

      It was 2 helicopters, not several. they lived adjacent to a military base so at least some of the sound would have been sort of normal. And if they (and they most likely did) hear the helicopter crash, the first instinct would be to believe that it was your local military that crashed. Not an enemy that crashed before they even began the attack.
      I can't imagine the feelings going through the 2 pilots of the downed chopper. They are on the most important mission of their lives and for several minutes probably felt like they completely screwed it up. The crew on board probably thought they were goners too. Yet no one was hurt. Miracle.

    To everyone commenting about how the people didn't "hear" the crash of the helicopter, yes it's not quite true. According to Robert O'Neal, a former Navy Seal who shot Osama Bin Laden, he said that there were nearby Pakistani training facility, which could implies that local people often hearing helicopter rotors. Sure the helicopter could have created a loud thud or whatnot upon crash, but I must say that all pilots involved were selective picked for Operation Neptune, which means they must've been extremely skilled and had many flight hours.
    Now at 7:23 where he said the explosive would jeopardize the mission, that's not true. They already made their presence known upon entering the AO (Area of Operation). Also, they didn't use bombs to disable the lock, they probably instead used power saw. Forgot to mention, during the briefing, they thought there would be a S-Vest present, so it was not a good idea to bring any explosives that may contribute the detonation.
    As much I would love to yap more, there's just a lot of inaccuracies. For disclaimer, I COULD be wrong about any of this, who knows, I just follow what I believe is true in my perspective and yours can differ from mine.

      @majorserrors from what was said in other documentaries, the soldiers scaled the walls (both front and back) after the helicopter crashed

    • @majorerrors
      @majorerrors Month ago

      @ Interesting, cause from what I heard, they made a 1:1 replica of the compound for the guys to practice infil, exfil, and timed CQB (Closed Quarter Battle). Pretty sure for CQB, they used dynamic CQB since it’s time-sensitive (dynamic prioritize speed over safety while deliberate prioritize safety over speed).

    • @EllenFedele
      @EllenFedele Month ago

      @majorserrors they did practice it, many times over - they did not anticipate the crash of the helicopter though so had to improvise

    • @majorerrors
      @majorerrors Month ago +1

      @ That’s true, but according to Robert O’Neal, he said the youngest guy said that a helicopter could possibly crash and it became true. Fyi, in all military operations there’s always contingency aka a backup plan, multiple of them to ensure success while prioritizing safety.

    • @EllenFedele
      @EllenFedele Month ago

      @majorserrors the reason for the crash was explained (a updraft from the back rotor) but my question is, if the best soldiers were utilised, why wasn't this possibility not factored in? They practised the drop so many times yet nobody thought about this?
      You mentioned that a contingency plan is used in case of military operations but in this case, they simply scaled the walls instead of rapelling into the compound.
