I TOTALLY get the need to keep things as simple as possible when you have a large plant collection! There is NO WAY I could keep up with a collection that size while working 50-60 hrs a week😵 so keeping everything as uniform as possible is super smart...as far as your last video goes, I've DEFINITELY noticed that people take your "plants I regret buying" or your "plants I'm struggling with" videos WAY too seriously!! Why do plant people get so bent out of shape when someone talks a little crap??! It feels good to vent sometimes! And...THEY'RE PLANTS😂 I adore those videos! Keep em' coming!💚💚

60 hours a week?! Oh man. I'm so glad your boyfriend has been supporting you in watering some of your plants. 💙 And yes, I really love terra cotta for most of my plants. I'm an overwaterer so terra cotta helps me a ton. I also very much like terra cotta as the plants ages the pot and it gives the pot such a natural and ancient and sacred look. As I've been growing my plants in terra cotta, I do find myself asking if I'm not being sustainable with my water use from having to water so many plants, some more than once a week. The same goes with just having to use so much water for plants in general, you know? Regardless of terra cotta, leca, plastic, etc. I'm learning a ton and I so appreciate your videos because you have encouraged me so much! And I'm so glad you're doing better! I love my terracotta pots and all my prayer plants are in terracotta my hanging plants I use plastic or I cant hang them except my string of turtles , pearls and beans only 2 of my syngonium are in plastic because they want water all the time . I have a bad back and just had surgery last week every 6 month I get shots in my back and neck so I cant use ceramic pots and it keeps my soil to moist for my plants . I love the fact that your honest and show your crispy bits we all have crispy bits your plants are beautiful and I appreciate your time sharing on how you take care of them I know its been a big help to me .I love that you give them a time out and if they dont behave send them outside lol I do that too. Thank you for sharing and cant wait for your next video.
Oh man, I am that random plant person who spends money without thinking. I have plants in plastic, ceramic, and terracotta. Can’t decide on which ones I like best, but def feel that ceramic pots get super heavy after watering lol. I only have like 25 plants, so I can’t complain :P. Thanks for the video! Yes, we all don’t want to be the same, no fun in that!

Yes! Simplicity is important when you have a large collection. I have over 300 houseplants. If I don't keep things as simple as possible, they suffer and then I suffer too haha.
I liked your mention of calathea drying out too! I think some of them really enjoy drying out a little (I'm looking at you, rattlesnake calathea), but I find that it's my more mature calathea that are like that. The younger, less mature ones get really fussy about drying out, it seems.

Thanks for sharing your experience. As you said, there isn't just THE one way (TM) to care for plants, there are several and everyone has to figure it out for themselves. I share your love for terracotta and I use it for hoyas - some people might dig my grave for using it for their delicate roots, but who cares really. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
I read somewhere philodendron usually don't get spider mites, yet here I am with spider mites on my philodendron only. 🤷♀️
Oh yeah, Philodendron can get spider mites for sure! I have a constant battle with them with my Mamei and I want to adopt a Majestic but I know one of the parents of this hybrid (Philodendron Verrocosum) can get spider mites, so I'm keeping that in mind, haha. Oh, and Thaumatophyllums can get them, too. :-) My Xanadu, oh man. 🤦😂😊
I totally agree! Everything and everyone is different . Everyone has a different experience .
My go-to planter is always TERRA COTTA!!! I love the clay pots. I have everything growing in either plastic (hanging baskets) or clay because I love the look. And they help with overwatering!

Been looking at your home tours and loved how you and your mom use terra-cotta.I’m going to switch all of mine that don’t have terracotta to it. I do like the way they absorb the water and the patina.

I love terracotta pots very much and all plants do fine in it you may have to water a few more often but I’m on your side with the terracotta.

All of us should be able to use any type of pot we choose without getting negative comments. I use all of the ones you mentioned. Like you, I think aged terracotta is beautiful. Give Sage an ear scratch for me.🐶
I’m Team Terracotta as well! I don’t like using ceramic or plastic pots for the most part. They help prevent root rot and they are all uniform. Plus I LOVE the patina!
Edit: I too don’t have issues with fungus gnats.
First Happy Belated Birthday, I hope you weren’t feeling too beat up over the last vlog. Your plants is a great way to shut us up! They’re beautiful. I can’t grow a Maranta Calathea in terracotta, hell I am struggling in plastic. Unfortunately I can’t use Tap Water, I have boil mine or buy distilled water. You are correct in saying, one size does not fit all. Keep doing you, and I will keep watching 😉
The majority of my pots are terra cotta. I love the look, and the water wicking properties. I have some super crusty ones that I got from my grandma, and really like the aesthetic.
Hahaha give me all the crusty pots. That’s sweet that you got them from your grandma, it makes it even more sentimental and special.
The crustier the better!! Only use terracotta pots but using new ones gives me the same kind of feeling as wearing new white sneakers/tennis shoes.

I like that you clarified that it was the care and maintenance of your plants that was "simple and minimal," not necessarily the collection. I don't mind having a lot of something either, as long as it doesn't over run my time and energy. If it's fussy or fiddley, it's gotta go.
I use terracotta on most of my plants because I tend to be an over waterer. I’m about to switch a couple that are in plastic because they seem to not dry out quick enough for the plants. Thanks for this video.

I have a lot of my succulents in terracotta, jade plants, snake plants etc. I guess everyone does what works for them. They all work well for me. I enjoy your videos. 💚 I love plants and it’s fun watching different people and different ideas.

i love your terracotta pots and I think its amazing how well your ferns do in them. I keep mine in their nursery pots inside ceramic or cement cover pots. I chose the ceramic because of my personal aesthetic . I think old terracotta is gorgeous though.
I use mostly terracotta now. It helps with consistent style and affordability. It also helps balance out my sometimes heavy watering. It took me time to realize the plants I love and don’t just want and how they look and thrive in my home. 💚
I'm agnostic when it comes to pots. I have some in terracotta, some in plastic, I've learned to adjust the soil mix to avoid it drying out too fast. But overall, I try to balance what pot I have on hand vs what I think the plant needs. Also I used to have locs, I understand about air drying woes LOL
Do you have a lot of hoyas and philodendrons.
We think alike! I was definitely more frantic and hovered over my plants when I first started. But the best approach is letting plants do their thing, a bit of neglect is not bad. We all have lives and should be able to balance plant life with real life. Terracotta is great, especially if you have plants that love being outside!!!

Personally I really like using terra cotta. However, I have noticed some plants don’t like it. You don’t need to defend using terra cotta, I think people just wanted to let you know why you were struggling with those plants. You can always put them in plastic and use terra cotta or ceramic pots as cover pots😊
I wasn’t defending myself. Just responding to the comments of why I like terracotta so much. And cache pots require me to make two purchases for one plant lol 😆 I rather just buy the one pot and move on to the next plant
Hi how are you. I did watch the last video. Regarding the suggestion for terra cotta pot comments my understanding was because those plants that you struggle with some dry out so fast for your routine that the plastic pots help keep the moisture, too. One thing I do with plants that dry out to quickly for my routine is put them in plastic then use Terra cotta like a cache pot. And you get the best of both worlds moisture retention for plants that need it and terra cotta for the aesthetic. Love the video always.
Hello. The plants in that video weren’t drying out fast I just forgot to water them. I also don’t like cache pots lol thank you for the suggestion though 😊

Prayer plants need distilled water to not get crispy so putting them in terracotta wastes water and dries them out.
I have absolutely nothing against terracotta pots! They just wick water away from very thirsty plants. Plastic pots can be put down in a decorative pot, or terracotta pot. Didn't mean to offend!

You have lots of pros for terracotta but I find that mine gets soil mites or something eating stuff or walking on the outside of my pots. This grosses me out despite being fairly harmless. So no more terracotta unless if outside.
You can get mites in any pot lol they are attracted to the plant not the pots.

My whole house of plants is in terra Cota and I love them. I have a few in their nursery pots. I just don’t love the build up on the outside but it helps with my watering
I watched the last video and now this one. It sounds to me like your plant collection is more of a inconvenience to you. Maybe you should find a different hobby because your plants are suffering because you don't care what the plant needs. I find that very sad.
