Just installed this in my 2015 S550 and works perfectly. I just had to have android auto after getting used to my wife's 2018 GLE. Was very scary but I must say follow all his instructions step by step. I missed the last part where you connect the yellow connection at the back and my center control wheel wasn't powering on when I was testing. Frustrated, I put everything back to normal then realized you have to connect that yellow thing 🤣. That's when I redid it. Very happy now.

I installed my kit last night. Easy, thanks to your video. I did not drill any holes, however. The carpet in the console hides some existing holes and a wire chase. I lifted that out and the panel that has the USB ports for better access and more routing options. I have very little exposed wiring as I stuffed the converter box behind that panel. Super easy, clean and no drilling! I also used USB port 2 so that I could still easily access port 1 if needed

I did install symilar kit on my s63 2014 - it works nice now But warning- i have Air condition and rear seat infotainment- it’s not so easy not to destroy a connector or a pannel-be careful
I successfully installed the GTA unit in a 2015 S550 with 4 zone climate, HiFi 3D audio, splitview, and rear entertainment Tvs/DVD. There’s far less room under the center console with 4 zone climate, so I couldn’t install it as shown in the video. There’s a fan for the 4 zone’s rear vents under the center console. i stood up the GTA CarPlay unit just under the front 6 disc head unit. The main wiring harnesses are to the left. The usb and WiFi connections to the GTA unit are to the right. All of the wires fit behind the GTA unit and under the 6 disc head unit. I bought a higher end 3.5mm cable ($10) and a 3.5mm noise loop isolator ($10). It helps to minimize noise in all of the 3.5mm connections. Adding Google maps, Apple HomeKit, Siri, and other apps makes this system well worth it.
Hi Rod, i have the same spec, splitview and rear entertainment, unfortunately after the installation I got two issues. I'm wondering if you have seen the same issue. 1. The screen can't stop flikering, once every few seconds, the screen is trying to go back to mercedes system, does this ever happen to you? 2. The google/apple map is pretty much stuck when i put my phone in the cup holder, like the GPS is frozen, i can put it in my pocket and it works fine when i use the wireless carplay. When I plug in the wire, the GPS is frozen no mater where i put the phone. I may have get a faulty device, waiting on GTA's help. How's your kit doing after a month? Thank you
@@weili6330 i did not have any of these issues. Have you tried using a different/new lightning to USB cable? I bought a flat lightning to USB cable on Amazon and it didn’t work at all. I returned it. Then, I bought a Monoprice MFI certified lightning to USB cable and never had another problem. Before taking the center console apart again, I would first try a few different lightning to USB cables. That solved all of my problems. Also, I would check all connections. Check the dip switches to ensure they are set appropriately for your vehicle. If none of that works, maybe your unit is faulty.
@@rodd3951 GTA team told me to reboot the unit and it has been 2 weeks now, so far so good. i still can't get GPS when i put my phone in the cup holder area, but i used to put it in my pocket any way. i'm happy. :)
Does anyone with the 3D High End Sound System have feedback on the audio quality? I notice this uses a 3.5mm audio connection, which without a DAC, could cause sound quality loss. Also - anyone with Executive Seating Plus? I can't imagine this is an easy task with the 4 seater setup.
I have the 3D high end. There is a loss of sound quality when listening to music. It’s noticeable, but still good. I bought a higher quality 3.5mm cable ($10) with extra shielding. I also bought a ground loop noise/hum isolator ($10) for the 3.5mm cable. As you can imagine, connecting a 3.5 mm cable to the wiring harness on one end and a usb to 3.5mm adapter on the other end (in the armrest) is not going to produce fiber optic levels of sound quality. I’m a bit of an audiophile, so i would rather not listen to music at all than listen to poor/bad quality sound and I’m still okay with listening to music with this setup. It’s good/high quality sound, but the stock audio sources are even better. I saw a video on RUclips for disassembly of the rear Exec. seating package. It’s doable.
@@rodd3951 I really wish there was a way to use the wireless carplay solely for the maps because, like you, that's what I really want it for and continue to use the USB and traditional audio interface for music. Thank you so much for taking the time to give me feedback.
@@Dakintosh you can do this. It’s not a requirement to have the audio source aligned with the CarPlay video. For example, you could use the MB SD card or radio or CD as a source and then hold the back button to see Google maps, while hearing the MB source. You would need to hold the back button again to exit car play to switch songs
Yes. I installed it last night and it works. Tight fit with 4 zone, so I just stood this unit on its side just below the front CD changer in a 2015 S550 with 4 zone climate, splitview, and rear tv’s/DVD
@@Dakintosh Yes. It uses the stock microphone in the car. I’m a bit of an audiophile, so i swapped the 3.5mm cable that came with the kit with a higher quality 3.5mm cable. It helped a bit. The sound quality is good for music, but just a bit worse than listening to music using the stock audio sources in the car. 3.5mm just doesn’t compare to fiber optic connections. Good news is, when you want even higher quality audio just switch from CarPlay to any of the stock audio sources. For me, the addition of apps, like Google maps, to the car is worth it. Much easier than using the Benz Navi system. No need to pay $2-300 to update the Benz map. Google maps is always updated and has a satellite view.
If you are in the CarPlay mode and put the car in reverse what happens? Do the reverse cameras come on? Does it go back to CarPlay after you put the car into Drive?
When you put the vehicle in Reverse, the image will automatically switch to the original cameras. Once you put it back in Drive, the system will switch back to CarPlay automatically. Thank you
@@TheRealFinanceGuy It's working great. I tried WiFi, but then disabled. I like to adjust my A/C, start the seat massager, etc. when I first get in the car. With WiFI turned on, I need to hold the back button to hide Carplay, adjust settings and then turn Carplay back on. It's easier for me to use the wired approach, so I can adjust all settings and then plug in my phone to start carplay
@@rodd3951 true, that's one minor setback. Don't mind it though. For me it's better than having a cable sticking out of the center console. Are you able to close the console properly with a cable sticking out? Even in my wife's 2018 GLE that came with andoid auto built in, I hate having that cable sticking out.
I just completed an install in a 2017 S63 Coupe... unfortunately, you need to remove the rear seats in order to remove the rear seat console to get enough clearance to pull the center console back far enough to clear the head unit. Can't be done as shown in the sedan. Also, before that, you need to detach the console harness from the internal frame (two push clips on each side) at the rear of the console, it's the Yellow on the left and Blue on the right shown in the video. I also disconnected the USB cable in the center of the console, it's a Blue connector wrapped in foam. Then you can remove the entire console from the car to modify the pocket. I chose not to drill a huge hole for the added USB cable, but ran the audio and USB cable into the storage bin with a small relief cut for the cables only, can do this with a dremel/rotozip tool.

I would stay on factory screen wait for audio to work and then hold the back to switch back over but more often I would use the wired connection was easier to use and leave my Bluetooth for the Benz connection

MY 2017 did not come with it either. It started with 2nd half of the year 2017 vehicles and newer ones 2018, 2019 etc
