Hey everybody, I'm the tuba player in this video and wanted to address a very fine question asked by Marco. As you probably noticed, I took some liberties with the tempos. Personally I feel like with any piece of solo literature you should have the freedom to push and pull where it makes sense. This goes extra for unaccompanied music. Not only is it more interesting for the listener than a strictly metronomic performance, but it is also more satisfying to prepare and perform that way. However, for any audition in which you play these etudes I would ask your private teacher or band director if they think taking liberties like that are appropriate for you. They are likely going to have a better idea than me of who will be listening to your audition and what those people might be wanting to hear.
I have a question regarding the make and model of this tuba. You make this tuba sound so rich and I can’t make out the model.
@@alexandrorenteria4900 3 years later but I believe it is a piston valve F tuba built by Eastman
Really good recording, but i disagree with the fact that nobody ive seen so far played the etudes with a double B-Flat tuba instead of an F or E-Flat tuba.
What?
FatGOLDEGUY so basically he wants to se a recording on a BBb tuba instead of an F or Eb tuba (those tubas are easier to hit high notes on sort of)
Ok and ?
Can you please do this with the FBA tuba all state auditions that come out in May 1st?
He wasn’t very consistent with tempo. But this was a pretty good performance nonetheless.
Shawn's Modern Classical Music he sped #15 up
Thank you so much. Do you plan on doing the same thing next year?
Yes, we are planning to do this again next year!
tips for consistently good tone and articulations on the upper register?
parker taylor practice buzzing on the mouthpiece for a while and focus on keeping the same note steady & consistent in volume and sound.
This guy deserves the next pay grade lol.
I really have no idea what to do with the ladders on Etude 2. Could you help me out?
Hello! We'd be happy to assist, if we can. But first, would you mind explaining what you mean by "ladders?"
@@USAFBandoftheWest 4:06 This. From what I have, this part has a note, ~ this over the part, and then a note after the ~. It doesn't show the other notes but the two.
@@USAFBandoftheWest Me too I think he means the turn notes could you help me by emailing me at

Thank you
You're welcome!
Someone get this man a better tuba! He’s amazingly good.
whats wrong with his tuba
That was really good, but I noticed that for the first etude you would slow down and sometimes speed up and you gave it your own style, so is it okay during the audition to give it your own style as long as it is close to how it is supposed to sound?
Marco Valerio Vittoria Yeah you can do that as long as you don’t take away musical integrity
Hey Marco, I'm the tuba player in the video here. Personally I feel like with any piece of solo literature you should have the freedom to push and pull as the music progresses. This goes extra for unaccompanied music. Not only is it more interesting for the listener than a strictly metronomic performance, but it is also more satisfying to prepare and perform that way. For any audition you might play these etudes I would ask your private teacher or band director. They are likely going to have a better idea than me who will be listening to your audition and what those people might be wanting to hear. Best of luck!
@@andrewpayton8731 Thank you for the comment, that really helps!
What's the name of the song in the introduction?
That's what I call a tuba player
where can I find a pdf for this sheet music?
These come from the book called "60 Selected Studies for BB Tuba" by Kopprasch, published by Alphonse Leduc.
What notes are you supposed to play on the trill in the 2nd etude
Solomon's wisdom i believe you up a whole step the back to original note and down a half step and back to original note
