Haha, been there done that! Now got legit snow tires and 275 lbs of sand bags over the rear axle. The extra weight in the trunk made a huge difference. No more issues for the F in the snow. Drove mountain hwy passes in snow last week, no problems. Mind you, the snow wasn't that deep, about an inch.
I'm sure the snow tires make a difference as well, I'm still on continental extreme contact dws06 all seasons that don't have very much tread left on them and also about 120lbs of tools in the trunk and it does okay in snow that's not 6 inches deep lol. But you get it on icey roads (like any other rwd car) it doesn't want to move that's when it becomes sketchy
I am amazed to see that winter tires are suggested as a “solution” where it’s a must in Switzerland and so if you don’t have them your insurance doesn’t cover any damage and you get fine 😅 I would be interested to see the same situation with premium winter tires
Snow tires will do the trick for this. Managed up a snowed under hill the other day in snow mode and ESP off. It struggled but managed, with all seasons I doubt Id have made it halfway up.
its more about tires in this scenario. I live in the snowbelt, and I own (and hate) a 4WD Jeep that gets stuck in the snow frequently. Granted, we get 24.5 inches of snow the last snowstorm, BUT it gets stuck often.
I'm getting PTSD seeing this. Last month couldn't get out of my driveway for over 2 weeks in my GS F(bought it in November and didn't plan to get snow tires until the next winter).
With good tires and some weight you'll be fine, I keep my IS-F in the garage winter time, I used to drive my 05 is300 on snow and did just fine, LSD helps!
Thank for the video. Are both rear wheels locking in this video? I can't tell what is happening on the driver-side I'm looking to see how the RWD 2nd Gen IS 350 does in similar conditions. People say that the IS 350 came with a "limited" slip differential, but no one has a video showing how it performs.
@@sesh3508 true, with good snow tires even on my lowered, open differential, RWD cars, I have never managed to get stuck except like a few times (not much for 15 years of driving). I'm just passionate to know how well the factory diff in the IS 350 locks in snow/ice conditions, or 1 rear wheel on ice.
@@gurpreetsoomal5408 when I turn traction control fully off in my IS it seems to lock pretty well when I’m drifting, and like you said, never got stuck even through some these Maine winters
Lol didn't do Jack shit for me even with traction off😂 had to turn traction off and sport mode and that actually got me to move a little. Snow mode doesn't help anything whatsoever unless you want traction control to kick in sooner or want a shitty throttle response
@@stealthm5 hahahahaha exactly 😂 all snow mode is good for is making it sound louder in car parks cause you can rev it more without it actually moving fast

@@michaellavelle793 haha we all have our crazy moments. Maybe time to invest in Winter rubber or a spare set of alloys if this the sort of snow your getting. Saying that if I owned an IS-F I would be quiet protective keep it away from any snowy salty or gritted roads it just corrodes the underbody overtime. In harsh weather just buy a used old 4x4 beater & in the worst case your not so gutted if your involved in a bump. P.S Happy New Year!

That's not why it cannot get farther. It's the tires. Once this thing is driving on the paved roads, an AWD isn't going to handle or brake any better. I wish I knew what the left-side of the wheel was doing here, and if both wheels are locking. If so, that's amazing. My current RWD with an open diff has never got stuck in snow here in Canada, I can only imagine how well a locking rear would be. Tires tires tires.
With electrinic stability control these and other modern vehicles will not let you spin out. So rwd is no more dangerous than fwd or awd, you just might get stuck but you won't wrap it around a tree.

I got fed up of this, bought winter tyres and a second set of wheels, all good now, but ever since getting them, very little times it's snowed now 😞
drove mine from salt lake city to south carolina with super sports and snowed the whole way, wont be doing that again
