Your cat painting is a great success! I have a problem with going over the painting with too much detail and it looks so overworked and the colors get dull and muddy. This tutorial is a great and helps me see what is enough detail without going too far. Thanks so much for this and I hope you paint more cats in the future.
Sigh - you are such a gifted artist! Even the art you create that "doesn't" have all the details, has all the details. Love your way of teaching, but boy - you have set a high bar! That's ok, we all do what we can and get a little better each day, right? right? Loved your cat paintings and loved the beautiful flower your house guest was walking over!
Love this tutorial. Your suggestion to let the watercolor do what it wants to do, is so helpful. I've watched this tutorial several times to learn your beautiful techniques. Thank you for sharing your talent.
I was beginner in water color, after constant precticeing of your videos Now I can make beautiful birds.Thanku from the bottom of my heart.you are a great teacher.lov the way you teach the 🐈
I love watching other watercolor artist to see what I might learn. However you are my very favorite and I have learned so much from you. Thanks for sharing your talent.
I could watch you paint all day. You have taught me so much thank you! Your explanations are so detailed which is exactly what we want with this complex medium. And you talk about trusting the paint and yourself..... just lovely! I have two cats and have tried to paint them before.... now I have the confidence to try again! 🙂❤
Great tutorial. I thought your previous cat was good but I like the way your style has developed and the way you paint now is, to me, more artistic. I think its also harder as you are giving up some degree of control - your results show how worth it it is!
I tend to want to paint watercolor like acrylic too, so to keep things loose is a struggle. Thank you for the fabulous insights with your technique. Loved the cats, they were so lifelike!
I love your tutorials! Love your particular style and the direction you're taking. Do you have any tutorials on how you first draw your subjects? Do you draw directly onto your watercolor paper, or first sketch on a different paper and then transfer? Would love to see how you accomplish that part of the process. Thanks!
Another lovely video, Louise! I loved and so much agree with your sentiment at the end about trusting yourself and your supplies. It's not easy, but I find my work turns out the best when I can let go and let the watercolors do what they want. Thanks for this! Can't wait paint these cats on patreon...I should be just finishing with my zebra by then!
I find when I let watercolor do its own thing, the painting comes out a lot better than if I try to control it. I'm working on a painting now that's supposed to be for beginners, and have now painted it 7 times. When I just let go and 'played', it came out much more lovely and fresh.
Your cat paintings are so beautiful, I need to free and loosen up my artwork too. I was too fussy with watercolours and had a kitty who wanted to help me paint pawing my brush thinking the handle was for catching. I ended up using pencils to be more controlled and not as easily spoiled by my art wannabe kitty. What a wonderful result you've achieved using a bigger brush and letting go. I may be tempted to pick up a brush again. The bloopers made me smile too.🥰❤
That was wonderful! I started a painting of one my cats and I got “so far” with it and realized I was doing similar things... capturing every stripe, I ended up with really saturated colors. After watching this I’m going to go see if I can salvage it by scaling back on the paint and detail.
Your explanations of your process was sooo helpful. I would love to do a koala, I have had one go but need to keep doing it over and over. Watching this has helped me understand the steps. Thank you Louise 👍
Love your work I also struggle with detail and overwork my paintings. I am going to try some of your methods on some bird paintings. Thanks for your help
You do amazing work! I love to watch you create these wonderful pieces. Will this also be included in the Skillshare? Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
Beautiful Louise. I recently overworked the elephant on your patreon. Disappointed for a bit, then moved on reminding myself that it was only a piece of paper of which I have more. I’ll remember what it did when I decide to try it again.
Thanks Janice. Lately I'd say nearly half of my paintings I'm not happy with. For every painting I do that I like there's one I do that I don't. We are growing! 💕
You answered one of my biggest problem. I was wondering why my paint would travel so far and make a hard edge unless I kept wetting the paper- to the point of running right off the edge of my flat watercolor world. Too much water on my brush! I know you've mentioned that before so hopefully this time I will remember.
Thank you, that indeed was helpful. Recently tried to paint an all black cat in watercolor, your over worked painting would sing, ( bad, awful mine was ). So thanks!
I think her painting of a cat is absolutely gorgeous too! My videos are mostly about painting animals, and it's hard for an artist who normally paints flowers and 'tighter' subjects to loosen up enough for a cat painting, but Louis did it! I really admire her breadth of ability.
Fantastic video! I definitely need the reminder to keep things simple. Is there somewhere to buy prints of you work? I noticed it mentioned on your website, but there's no actual shop page.
So when you wet a painted area again, how do you avoid it from creating blotches? The kind of blotches that you used on the cat on purpose after the first layer of grey. I'm guessing it's just about the amount of water? Or also if I need to wet the entire area?
U do beautiful work...i still felt the grey kitty was a little tight...its lovely ..nothing wrong with it...but its not what i would call lose...i think ur going to find it very hard to let go of control....u are a perfectionist...and it has served u well. I guess we all have to struggle with something. Even u with ur beautiful work. I would humbly suggest that u try a cat without drawing it in pencil first. Just let paint sugest a cat...if u truly want it to b "lose". Either way ur work is fab. 😊 TC REd
Great video, Louise! Have wanted to ask you for some time now...do you sign your paintings? I haven't seen any signatures on the front, so wondering if you sign/date them on the back? Thanks in advance for any insight you may provide.

From now on you can’t say “i’m not good at cat paintings”. With this video you have given us proof you are amazing at them!
Beautiful
Thank you 💕.
You are an excellent teacher. Thank you. 😊
The cats are stunning.
Fantastic advise about trusting the paper, paint and yourself--not easy but a good reminder each time! Thank you!
Can’t wait to paint these cute cats!!! Thank you Louise!
Also, I love your bloopers at the end!!!😄
😊 thank you!
Much respect for anyone who’s mastered watercolor! I find it to be extremely difficult so I stick with my oils!
Дуже красиво! Дякую! ❤
I love your cat paintings. Great tutorial as usual.
Thank you Alan. 😊
Forever grateful in this learning process of mine. U seem to be touching all the points I am in doubt of 🙏🏻

Thank you very much Deanna. I want to keep improving. 💕
The tips on painting the fur are great and the results are amazing. I'm glad you overcame your fear on painting cats. :)
I love the way you teach us, i also like cats.... Thank you Louise. Great job. ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
You are welcome. Thanks Maria. 💕
I totally agree with the bigger brush! I often use that trick myself when im trying to paint more loose. Beautiful cat paintings :)
Thanks so much Kirsi! It really helps me. 😊
Thanks Louise. Lovely paintings.
You have a very delicate touch.
Keep well Ji
Just made a bloomer too should be Jo

Very nice... Love the way you explain your technic.... I will try this technic, love the results.
Allô Louise, this little kitten is beautiful.....I would love a real time video of this 🐈. 👏 and 👍😂 lové the blooper 🙏🥰
I found your demonstration to be so informative. You answered a lot of my watercolor questions. And I loved all of the cats
I'm so glad. Thanks Lydia.
This tutorial lighted up my day! Thank you Louise. I always look forward on your weekly uploads.
It’s nice to know that you have some frustrations, makes us feel really good about ourselves. Beautiful painting!

Painting cats is really rewarding - I find painting most of the cat wet in wet really makes it look a lot more realistic
Wow wow wow. Gorgeous Louise. Well done.
Thanks so much Gwen. 😊
Beautiful, and very helpful 🙏😍👍🏻
Awesome video for Cat lovers. Thanks Louise.

That’s so cute cat painting!☺️☺️
Awesome work as usual
Thank you so much Debra. 💕
I found the first painting really nice. 💜 love this tutorial. 💜
Thanks so much 😊

Do you draw directly onto your watercolor paper, or first sketch on a different paper and then transfer? Would love to see how you accomplish that part of the process. Thanks!
Thank you. I'll usually transfer it on to the watercolour paper once I've got it the way I want it. Saves me erasing too much.

I have found the trick to painting cats is use a lot of wet in wet technique!
Wow you are gorgeous!
Thank you Tanya. 😘
Thanks 😊
Wjonderful. I love painting cats but get impatient. You are in inspiration. Thanks
That was wonderful! I started a painting of one my cats and I got “so far” with it and realized I was doing similar things... capturing every stripe, I ended up with really saturated colors. After watching this I’m going to go see if I can salvage it by scaling back on the paint and detail.
Wonderful! Thank you Nancy. I hope you have some success.
I found the more wet in wet technique you use, and let edges blur, the more dreamy a cat will look, or any animal with soft fur
Your explanations of your process was sooo helpful. I would love to do a koala, I have had one go but need to keep doing it over and over. Watching this has helped me understand the steps. Thank you Louise 👍
Glad it was helpful! Thanks Julie.

Wonderful! Thanks Bill.
Thank you for this demo of painting a cat. I have shared it with my students.
You teach too? I do also. I am always trying to learn more so I can share new insights with my students!

Great video , thanks ❤️❤️❤️
You’re welcome. Thanks Kevin. 😊
Thank you so much for sharing these lessons with us...It’s greatly appreciated 🤎☺️🤎
My pleasure! Thank you Nickels.
I spoke a little too soon. Will be watching for it on patreon.

Too much water on my brush!
I know you've mentioned that before so hopefully this time I will remember.
Thanks Suzanne. Eventually you'll adjust the water in your brush without even thinking about it.
I think this is my favourite painting! Thank you! I also just watched your koala tutorial on Skillshare and it was great!👍
Awesome! Thank you Amy.
Cat paintings are my favorite too! Is there anything Louis can't do?
Thank you, that indeed was helpful. Recently tried to paint an all black cat in watercolor, your over worked painting would sing, ( bad, awful mine was ). So thanks!
Those were wonderful tips - thank you very much :)
Glad it was helpful. Thank you Kathryn.
Thank you, for a very informative video ❤️
Thanks very much Sue. 💜
I loved this tutorial. I hope it’s one you will be putting on patreon. God bless.

Hi there, which brushes do you use, and what sizes??
Beautiful pieces Louise!!! I actually just completed a cat commission myself!
Thanks Nathan. I hope it went well.

Glad you liked it! Thanks Sten.
U're so wonderful ❤️
You too!! Thank you.
That painting of Lewis/Louis is stunning! What is wrong with it?
Thank you. It's not great. It's the best I could do at the time. I look at it now and I can see how I struggled with it.
