Years ago I heard/read that police officers don't wear full face helmets because when they approach a person they don't want their face hidden from view to that person for communicating purposes. I say buy a half helmet if you only want to protect half your head. I've worn my full face all day in 115 degree F weather. Full gear as well.
Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino ...I saw a nice looking woman go down at five miles an hour on the back of a bike, she was wearing a half helmet, she smashed her beautiful face. (She was prob early fifties). It was not good. It was at Sturgis. Full face would have saved the day.
@@blipco5 Yup. A full face helmet is certainly safer than a half helmet. But if your gonna wear a half helmet, as 100's of thousands do, then get the best.
Locally, in our city, a Police Officer was killed in a minor traffic accident wearing her duty half helmet instead of her off-duty full face Aria. The ER surgeon (a friend of mine) said had she been wearing adequate protection, she would still be riding. Sad, to say the least. Instead of requiring proper gear, our PD disbanded the MC mounted force later, without fanfare. Remember any helmet is better than no helmet. It’s your choice.
One big reason I wear Full Face is because rocks and pebbles thrown at you from tires hurt…real bad……real real bad. Plus it chops out lots of Wind Noise banging against my ears, which allows me to hear the traffic a bit more, and it does not pull my head back with the Umbrella effect (aerodynamic).

I really love my new Daytona Cruiser 3/4 helmet. I bought it last week because I couldn’t handle the heat & humidity here in East TN while wearing my HJC IS Max modular. The Daytona Cruiser is extremely low profile & I was comfortable in it yesterday @ 90 degrees and high humidity. That vinyl on Donna’s helmet looks like what happened to my old Bilt modular. I have to go look at the Seer helmets now. Lol at the end. 😂
Jerry I would like to thank you for your service, and I really enjoy watching your videos. Out of all the years you have been riding, have you ever been involved in an accident while riding your bike?
Higher prices it's for your head to save your life. However I picked up a rider in Paris who had a half helmet , and when we intubated him, it was very easy as he had no lower jaw left, it had been ripped off by a 10m slide on the roadway. So I just stuck the intubation tube into his trachea.
@@cgmp5764 C'mon. You' d trust an insurance company? In the real world, what would happen if the insurance company found they could charge more if you wore a half helmet, they'd say lets invest in Shoei and then charge more for anybody who doesn't wear a shoei helmet. Then they'd jack up the price of the Shoei helmet and make more money on both ends.
Fiberglass degrades slowly (they are used in boat construction). UV rays water salt amd wind.. Kevlar will degrade a lot quicker 5 year garanty. Probably lasts for 7-10 years. 15 is pushing it. The eps foam)(basicaly styrofoam ) was tested for 30years burried underground. Marginal loss in properties. The 5 year limit is probably the accumulation of minor damage when inproperly stored or used
I bumped into and got in a conversation with a Wedding Ceremony Hostess recently. She makes a good living setting up those moments before the Holy Man, from start to finish. I told her, weddings are pretty much the same thing (as I see it) as a funeral...she then said that she herself calls them Stand Up Funerals. With the current divorce rate of 54% for first marriages, it's worse than ever. Would you fly on a plane with a 54/46 tail number? Things that make you go Hmmm. In other news, yes, these are excellent helmets and the forthcoming $50 discount certainly makes me want a second one. Yes, Jerry is correct, the de-laminating of the straps and rusty links of the various Kung-fu brands/manufacturers is 100% annoying and makes one think the rest of the construction is also price-point grade.
This summer I cam across a motorcycle accident a few blocks from my house. Laying on the street was a road glide seat and nothing else. Only the seat and it was laying exactly where the rider would be it at the stop sign. A lady on phone ran sign at 45 and hit him from behind. The motorcycle was 50 feet away and the rider was laying on sidewalk holding his head. It was cigarette guy. A guy I had seen smoking a cig even riding on the local highway with no helmet. Blood was pouring from his head and I just could not bring myself to turn record him for youtube after I made eye contact with the guy. Luckly for him the fire department was across the street.
@@bloodymarvelous4790 Are you saying this wasn't an anti smoking rant? I reserve my right to use my sense of humor anytime, any place in my comment section.
Great looking helmet. But 21 yrs?? The foam deteriorates after 5-7 years and does not offer the same protection. That is noted all over the place and every riding course I've done - provincial Safety Council ones - have said that.
A full face is ideal from a protective standpoint. For those concerned about heat, the Bell Bullitt is a superb helmet with exceptional field of view, and heavy airflow. Would not recommend for cooler temperatures. It’s more a vintage style helmet though so it lacks in some areas.
Jerry , should times get tough and you have to cut back. Could you maybe pass the Camera Girls Resume along this Way , Rodeo Drive Shopping as a BONUS😉
Another great video, have 5 helmets now, oh wait 6, anyways after riding since 1964, even a short time on a cycle for the NYS Park Police in New York, it has come to the end of two wheels and I will be getting a 2020 Cam-Am Spyder in 2020, SO when are you going to do a three wheeler video? They do have Police Cam-Am three wheel bikes! Also I need a new Blue Knights colored helmet! Ride With Pride....
Seer has the Blue Nights colors. As for trikes, the Can Am is by far the safest and most fun to ride. Of course, some youtube experts will make something out of that statement.

I really enjoy your videos but I disagree with you on this, I am living proof that 1/2 are bad! I wont post the video or pictures but I got brain damage after being hit by a truck! it messed me up very bad for over 2 years but I am back to riding a New Harley again but I will never take a chance again with 1/2 helmet. I have been riding since I was a little child. I am 65 now and very lucky to be alive but I do agree with all your other posts! they are very handy to refresh my Brain! Thank you Jerry for all your awesome tips, God Bless
I didn't say a half helmet is better. I simply said if you're going to wear a half helmet, get the best. Obviously, a full face is safer. Seer also has full face helmets for sale as well.
Pat Sharkey glad you have recovered. I have a half helmet and some friends have full helmets. They chose to give up hearing more and seeing more. Too many blind spots when exiting an intersection and changing lanes on congested roads to make me wear a full helmet. Love that we still have choices. Be well.
SEER helmets are great! I purchased one from a motor officer in Michigan that was selling it because the police force there was changing over to the Shoei 3/4 helmet, due to numerous head injuries from impacts to the unprotected back of the head. Mine had the straps system instead of foam in the liner, which really provided great air circulation. Ended up selling it because it was to big and adjusting the headband and straps just didn't work for me. Motorman, do you find that people cut you off or do other stupid stuff More or Less or the Same as, when you are riding your police bike look alike as compared a typical stock bike?? The reason given as to why motor officers wear the Half helmets is so they can easily communicate with it on, that is the reason they are switching to the 3/4 or modular helmets. Thanks for the informative, albeit slightly biassed video.
When I had black or white police bikes and wore the Seer helmet, people would drive very slow around me. With the new blue bikes I now have, not so much.
From Snell: The five-year replacement recommendation is based on a consensus by both helmet manufacturers and the Snell Foundation. Glues, resins and other materials used in helmet production can affect liner materials. Hair oils, body fluids and cosmetics, as well as normal "wear and tear" all contribute to helmet degradation. Petroleum based products present in cleaners, paints, fuels and other commonly encountered materials may also degrade materials used in many helmets possibly degrading performance. Additionally, experience indicates there will be a noticeable improvement in the protective characteristic of helmets over a five-year period due to advances in materials, designs, production methods and the standards. Thus, the recommendation for five-year helmet replacement is a judgment call stemming from a prudent safety philosophy.
Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino: LOL, well I’m in FL and above water, so not sure who said that but they were wrong. I was citing from the motorcycle foundation. Heard the same thing in my MSF class when I was learning to ride in 2014...change your helmet out for safety every 3-5 years. Everyone has to make their decisions about safety equipment. Been thinking about heading down to your neck of the woods from Jax to take a class with you. Learned a lot from your RUclips vids and a local similar class. Thanks for your work to improve motorcycle safety!
I wear a full face even when it’s 100 degrees here in California. Strongly suggest people doing the same. The chin is the most impacted area in a crash. You think you look cool until you are drinking a steak dinner through a straw.
Hi Jerry, I'm a HD rider here in Australia and appreciate your channel. Love my half helmet and appreciated your explanation. One thing. What's your thought on the quick release? I ask because once I was adjusting my jacket zip/collar and brushed up against the quick release and my helmet flew off! Got me thinking on whether in a crash the helmet would stay on. Thoughts please.
Thanks for the helmet recommendation. Gift to self for Christmas! Do you have one for cold weather gloves that are flexible enough to allow easy operation of controls? I'm in Florida too, so for me cold is 50 - 60 degrees.
Hey Motorman, I took advantage of the discount for the SEER helmet, which will be ready in a couple of weeks. Thanks? I opted for the Carbon Fiber with Harley Davidson Twisted Cherry color. In the mean time, I need to decide on the type of ear harness (close or open) to install once they tell me the helmet portion is done. I will be using a SENA 20S communications device that is coming off my prior 3/4 helmet. BTW, I've never worn a half helmet. Hopefully you can help me decide on which harness will be best for my needs concerning the comms I will be using. With the closed ear harness the speakers will be inside of a pair of Super SEER ear muffs which are made a fuzzy material and are attached to the inside of harness with Velcro. The representative at SEER said that this type might be a bit warm in hot climates. BTW, I live in NC. The other option (open ear) is a type that you are probably familiar with as a motor officer. My understanding is that the Super SEER ear muff is made of a hard material that mounts outside the open ear harness. Is this the type that you used when you were running comms as a motor officer? The PROS and CONS of each as I see them are: Pros of the closed ear harness is that there will be less wind noise and the material will be softer against the ear. Con: Possibly too hot. The open ear harness; Pro: Cooler. Cons: possibly more wind noise and semi hard ear muff pressing against the ear. What say you? Thanks and sorry for the lengthy post.
I wear the prescription sun glasses you see me with in this video. As for the carbon fiber, it is lighter than the fiberglass but I haven't worn it enough to say which I prefer.
Motorman : "Do you know why I got that camera?" Motormama : "Why?" Motorman : "Because it has the best image stabilization of any action camera." Motormama : 🤣😆🤣
I would like to know if the USA will be adopting the ECE-R 22.06 helmet safety standard Canada and the other countries have adopted in their respective countries? I know we are DOT here in the USA. I live in PA and know we dont have the helmet laws here if I use this helmet while riding. I qualify with not needing a helmet, but fear I will get pulled over in another State when I wear my ECE-R 22.06 helmet from Germany and ride through a State that requires a helmet with DOT certifications, etc... Do you have any info on any new standards coming here in the USA for ECE-R 2206?????

I purchased a helmet for $70.00 at the Honda shop several years ago and while making a right turn onto a side street my rear tire lost traction and slid out from under me and that cheap helmet saved my noggin. I hit hard and never noticed the hit to my head. I have nothing against a budget helmet. I even have a Harley half helmet I only paid$85 for. I trust it just as much as a$600.00 full conversion helmet.
I am putting this on my wish list. Next stimulus check, 🤞! Hopefully it won't be VETOED! The offer expired 12/31 😒! Besides someone stated that I should wear a full face helmet. Not for me - I always have been a half helmet girl!
Would the number two question then be; what boots do you wear? I've noticed the patrol officers have some sort of higher black boots with straps in two or three places. I'd like to get some similar to that.
Since watching this video, I have gone to the SuperSeer website and twice tried to contact them for a price to ship a carbon fiber 64cm helmet to my reshipping company in Oregon, and they don't respond.
They answer the phone every time for me. The only thing I dont like is the fact they tell me they are back ordered, they have no paint or they are short of materials. Then they tell me they are just a small company. If they are back ordered then they should have a list. They cant even tell me where I fall in that list. I'm really about to get my money back. They were supposed to give me $40 back but they keep telling me excuse after excuse. One girl who answered the phone and I asked where do I fall on this list her reply was "So you want me to get up and go all the way down the stairs and go down the hallway?" It was suposed to have been 2 months now it has been 5 and they tell me it wont be for several more weeks. Did you ever get your helmet?
What is the average time to recieve a helmet when ordering? Its been five months for me and they tell me its going to be several more weeks along with whatever reason is popular for that week. Originally I was told two months. Thats fine, I paid $400 anyway but it has been 5 months now. I honestly think they are pushing orders ahead of other orders. Cant get a straight answer from them at all. I really dont see how any of you got a helmet from seer. Maybe I should have used this code but I didnt. Very frustrating because I work so much I dont even have time to call and cancel my order so my money, that is now in there bank, is just sitting in limbo right now.
Well, I guess I know what I'll be asking for from Mama Claus this Christmas... Having a lot of trouble deciding what type lining I want in it though. PS You also sold me on getting a Freedom Shields windshield :-)

I say buy a half helmet if you only want to protect half your head. I've worn my full face all day in 115 degree F weather. Full gear as well.
That's right. You makes your choices and ya takes your chances and thank God for the freedom to do so.
I thank The Flying Spaghetti Monster for the freedom to do so.
May you be touched by his noodly appendage. Ramen.
Having a chat with your wife in the outtake I can see why you need a really good helmet 🤣🤣🤣
I have a Seer and it’s a great helmet.
Thanks for this material!!! I was looking for such a helmet!
Brother, you’re a wealth of knowledge
full and modular are hjc or nolan or ahoei per their website
One big reason I wear Full Face is because rocks and pebbles thrown at you from tires hurt…real bad……real real bad. Plus it chops out lots of Wind Noise banging against my ears, which allows me to hear the traffic a bit more, and it does not pull my head back with the Umbrella effect (aerodynamic).
The ending was the best part of the video. LOLOL
I really enjoy your humor, never stop. Donna, keep picking on him. Stay safe

Do you have a full helmet video? I like the idea of an intercom and Bluetooth connectivity with my phone. Any tips along those lines?
Jerry I would like to thank you for your service, and I really enjoy watching your videos. Out of all the years you have been riding, have you ever been involved in an accident while riding your bike?
I'm here for the outtakes.
For pure Safety I used full mask!!!
Like the Lone Ranger?
Higher prices it's for your head to save your life. However I picked up a rider in Paris who had a half helmet , and when we intubated him, it was very easy as he had no lower jaw left, it had been ripped off by a 10m slide on the roadway. So I just stuck the intubation tube into his trachea.
Thanks for the cheer you ray of sunshine you.
Two months for delivery to NJ.
Did they offer him a smoke?

Great looking helmet. But 21 yrs?? The foam deteriorates after 5-7 years and does not offer the same protection. That is noted all over the place and every riding course I've done - provincial Safety Council ones - have said that.
Scientist all over the place also say there are dozens of genders. Until I see an actual test, I'm skeptical.

A full face is ideal from a protective standpoint. For those concerned about heat, the Bell Bullitt is a superb helmet with exceptional field of view, and heavy airflow. Would not recommend for cooler temperatures. It’s more a vintage style helmet though so it lacks in some areas.

Seer Helmets are made in the U.S.A. That's why they aren't cheap chit. Check them out at superseer.com and educate yourself.
Hi Jerry I wouldnt mind buying one of the Super Seer Helmets, but im in Australia & to my search they dont sell them here. When i looked on there web site it looks like they only sell them in USA, & there is no email address for them for me to find out.......what a bummer....Cheers alway look at your shows
On the Seer website they seem to have full face HJC and Nolan helmets that are just renamed. I'm looking for a full face helmet made in the USA.
@@motorman857 I agree but I really dont like the full face as much and its heavy but I will check out the Seer Thanks again)
My favorite part was the last minute. Your wife sounds like a pretty good woman.
Get some skills... Spot on... Full face here, just getting back into riding, need to work on those skills... ;-)
I aways said when I move to AZ I wouldn't wear a helmet. I now wear a modular helmet or a 3/4 helmet. I guess age brings some wisdom.
Wait..didn't Snell say Florida and Manhattan would be under water by 2015?
Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino: LOL, well I’m in FL and above water, so not sure who said that but they were wrong. I was citing from the motorcycle foundation. Heard the same thing in my MSF class when I was learning to ride in 2014...change your helmet out for safety every 3-5 years. Everyone has to make their decisions about safety equipment.
Been thinking about heading down to your neck of the woods from Jax to take a class with you. Learned a lot from your RUclips vids and a local similar class. Thanks for your work to improve motorcycle safety!
@@slcea7 Come to think of it, everybody should buy a new Ride Like a Pro video every 3-to 5 years...

Interesting that the new Seer has a ratchet, quick release vs double D thing. Do you feel that is just a safe?

Do they ship to Canada. Having a hard time finding them up here.
I wear hearing aids and sometimes they go flying when I remove a helmet. Maybe this is the answer.
Looking for replacement pads for an old police helmet like the ones you have that are V shaped with the velcro.
The outtakes are funny.

Thanks for the helmet recommendation. Gift to self for Christmas! Do you have one for cold weather gloves that are flexible enough to allow easy operation of controls? I'm in Florida too, so for me cold is 50 - 60 degrees.
A company is supposed to e sending me a pair to test very soon.
@@motorman857 I'll stay tuned, thanks
Ha! Now you’re talking. I amortize the cost of my shoes the same way. Cost/years of use= cost per year.
What glasses or googles over prescriptions glasses do you / others recommend while wearing this helmet?
So do you prefer the carbon over fiber seers ?
I wear the prescription sun glasses you see me with in this video. As for the carbon fiber, it is lighter than the fiberglass but I haven't worn it enough to say which I prefer.

Nice helmet but here in germany not road legal, in italy the will even take your bike if you use it (no EC number, just DOT). 😢
Sorry I have no information on that. As for police pulling you over for having a ECE-R standard vs Dot, that should be the least of your worries.

Great review! Thanks.
The industry standard still says 5 years maximum as the interior foam degrades over time.
Are you talking about the helmet industry? The same helmet industry that would benefit from selling a new helmet every 5 years?

Jerry, Any idea if I can mount a Sena 30k on this helmet?
I'd like to get some similar to that.
google would be the answer to that question.
Very well then. And what is your preference in boots? Are there any you would like to recommend?

Since watching this video, I have gone to the SuperSeer website and twice tried to contact them for a price to ship a carbon fiber 64cm helmet to my reshipping company in Oregon, and they don't respond.
They answer the phone every time for me. The only thing I dont like is the fact they tell me they are back ordered, they have no paint or they are short of materials. Then they tell me they are just a small company.
If they are back ordered then they should have a list. They cant even tell me where I fall in that list. I'm really about to get my money back. They were supposed to give me $40 back but they keep telling me excuse after excuse.
One girl who answered the phone and I asked where do I fall on this list her reply was "So you want me to get up and go all the way down the stairs and go down the hallway?"
It was suposed to have been 2 months now it has been 5 and they tell me it wont be for several more weeks.
