I'm so happy to see Dark Elf again and be loyal to his gameplay style! I used to do like him and separate the villagers' jobs according to medieval gender roles when I started playing 1999 at 12 years old! I continued to do this at least into my early teens just for the historical accuracy sake. AoE2 made me even more interested in history than I was before and it might have led me later to become an History major at university. I hope we will see some more Dark Elf games in the future, I just adore those simcity players! AoE 2 is one of the best games out there for that and I'm a sucker for beautiful cities/bases. I used to make beautiful bases in Command and Conquer 2: Tiberian Sun as well with themed industrial districts separated by walls and gates with pavement everywhere. It was a lot of fun! As for what job you would do in the medieval era, there is another reason why you would probably not become a hunter. In those times, the woods belonged to the aristocracy and game was reserved from them. Hunting these was considered poaching and the penalty was the death penalty! :) If I had a choose a job to do in that era, I would have loved to be an artisan. Of course, I would love to be a mounted man-at-arm if I could, but this isn't a very realistic prospect, isn't it? :D

The way he pre-calculated the offset needed for those houses at the south-west is quite impressive IMO, given everything else he manages at the same time. I started playing some weeks ago and at ~50 games I'm barely above 700, despite being a tryhard. (Never seriously played an RTS tho.) I wonder if DarkElf has some type of autism, which might explain the preoccupation with gender roles for villagers and perfect base layout, and the ease with which he calculates those offsets. Or maybe I'm exaggerating how difficult it is to do that coz I'm still a noob at the game... Would love to see if he manages to keep doing that in more stressful games.
Calculating the offset isn't too hard with some practice. Farms are all 3x3, and if you know you want 2 layers of farms, you just need to recognize 6 tiles. You can turn grid on to show the exact tile counts too. After that, it's just getting used to it.
