Hey, I put the film inside and I put it the same like in most film cameras... at this camera is different. When I shoot, the film slides slow and I wondered if smth is wrong with the camera or batteries. Now that I saw that video and that it s a different method to put the film in the camera I wonder if I could get photos from that film or it will be a totally fail.
If it’s advancing slow it could be some corrosion in battery compartment. Take a cotton swab with white vinegar and wipe down battery contacts. As for putting film in wrong.. not sure there. Is the film counter advancing?
Great question. I think best thing to do for this one is to remove the aa batteries before stowing. You will avoid misfires and prevent any kind of corrosion should you leave it sitting for any length of time. 👍
Will the shot number advance on the frame counter even if the film is not loaded correctly? I am afraid that the gears didn't fully catch when I loaded a roll, but the film number is advancing with each shot so it might be ok?
There is a film advance indicator on the back of this camera. See that little window on the back of the camera with red and white diagonal lines? if that moves when you take a shot or rewind the film, it's a surefire that the film is moving. If it's not moving you'll have to open the camera in a dark bag and check what's wrong with your hands.
@@TeddyJuras I used to sell the later version of the Sureshot camera at Fox Photo back in 1986-88. They were in high demand and I got to know the controls quite well!
hi there! i added new aa batteries to my camera but the shutter button doesnt work and the light is red. what do i do? when i took the batteries out they were pretty warm.
Hmmm not sure on this one. These canon film cameras from the 80s are some of the most temperamental I deal with. Shutter can get stuck instantly and you’re left with a brick. 👎
A lot of my photos came out blurry and unfocused when I developed my film on this camera. Any tips? Also what are the settings for on the lens (it ranges from 25-100)
Hello! Could be bad autofocus function on camera. The settings should range more like 25-800? I don’t have one of these in front of me but that is the iso/asa setting. You match the camera to the speed of your film you are shooting. Kodak 200 you would set camera to 200. Hope this helps!
Hi, if i couldn’t remember which roll did i use and how many exposures. Is there any way to check without open it? Causw i know the other cameras allow you to see it at the back of the camera. TIA
Hey I bought one of these from goodwill, the shutter works, but the winding sounds sluggish. The battery terminal had some corrosion that I cleaned, but to me it feels like the camera can’t get enough power from the batteries?
Beyond cleaning it really good with white vinegar you can try pulling the battery contacts up to make sure getting full contact. I actually use a dental pick for this. Lol. Otherwise replacing battery contact might help. Let me know how it goes.
Oh no! Not that this brings back your lost investment in wasted film due to camera issues… but I recommend using a dummy roll and getting a film retriever to pull film from canister. You can then open the back door and fire off some shots to see if it’s advancing properly. Other thing to check is if the shutter is opening and closing. Those should help determine why you’re getting blanks. 👍
See that little window on back with red/white diagonal lines? if it moves when you fire a shot the film is loaded and advancing. if not you'll have to check the film in total darkness to see what's wrong.
Awesome thanks for sharing Russ! Also if you are getting blank rolls… check to make sure the shutter in the lens is opening and closing. Film could be advancing… and shutter is stuck. 👎
hi. any idea why the film counter went back to ‘S’ even if I didn’t press the wind button? and after that, my camera stopped working & the wind unwind button was heating up.
Oh no! Not sure on this. These old canon cameras are very hit or miss. Being over 30 years old and not built to last in my opinion. I’ve had a ton of issues with them but have not come across yours. 🤷♂️
Hi. Love the video but love how the comment section has become such a community forum for this little cam. I was wondering whether I would be the only one with this question since I haven’t found any in other platform, I want to make it a habit to take off batt after shooting. But funny thing is, if my last shot was using the flash; the orange light indicator will stay ON eventho I slide my flash back in. This won’t be gone even when I unplugged the batteries. The only way to turn it OFF is to take another shot. Does anybody else experience this quirk with their AF35M? And like any other old machine owner I feel like I have to ask this question “is there any way to cheat and work around it?”
Thanks for stopping by! Yes very helpful little community here! Hmmmmm I’ve never heard of this before. At some point the green light would have to shut off without the batteries no? I’ve never noticed this before. I will pay attention next time I have one of these in my hands. Anyone else have some ideas? 🤷♂️
@@TeddyJuras This is probably a silly question, but I'm a photography noob so going to ask anyway. I ordered the Kodak 200 gold, so I should set the ASA on the front of the camera to 200? I just found out I can move it by using the little red ring, had no idea LOL Thanks for answering my questions, my mom used this camera my entire childhood and I'm trying to get back to shooting similar photos now.
Do you know of anyone that repairs the canon autoboy? I have inherited one from my grandfather and there has been battery corrosion. One of the metal pieces that the battery connects to has chipped off...
First time using it? Or has it been sitting? Try some white vinegar on the battery contacts. Also gently pry up the metal tabs on bottom to make sure making full contact. Otherwise just could be dead camera. These 80s canon cameras don’t have a great track record due to corrosion and can go bad quick. Let me know if you get it working!
I opened the door of the film just to see if everything was ok because it doesn’t work but now I’m worried because I don’t know if I ruined the pictures for the light.. and that was in less than 10 seconds 😭
@@TeddyJuras Thank you! On my way to buy one in mint condition right now. So I just wanted to know if I was over paying. Thanks for the fast response!👌
Technically there isn’t a way to turn off this camera. If you won’t be using it for any length of time it’s a good habit to remove the batteries cause the cameras are notorious for battery corrosion.
@@TeddyJurashey teddy , if I have taken some photos already and remove the battery will this affect shooting the rest of the roll after I put the batteries back in?
Great question. It should not. This camera doesn’t automatically load film so it will not advance your roll. When you put batteries back in nothing happens. That would be the only risk of taking a battery out of a different camera with film inside… the film advances.👍
@@TeddyJuras i can wind them back frame by frame Just shoot my first roll and when my roll was full i tried 2 back up 3 frames and stop and it worked so i Just shot 3 pics again and rewind it al back cant wait 2 c what happend sorry for my english i m dutch

like the video's tempo! I think these are also great materials for English listening practice 😆

Hey! Is that possible to turn off that camera when transferring it in a bag not to have an unexpected shots? Or maybe any tips how’s better to do this

It might advance even if film doesn’t catch. I’m not 100% sure on this model though sorry. Let me know what you find out!

You can shoot the entire roll of film and the camera will rewind automatically so you don’t need to figure out how many are left. Does this help? 👍
Looking at buying one as a secondary camera to go along side my 6d, how do you set autofocus and are there any issues with the camera itself?
Autofocus is always on. Camera is a bit loud but other than that it’s a very popular 35mm film camera!

HOW DO YOU GET THOSE BATTERYS OUT ?
What do you mean? Are the batteries stuck in yours?
@teddyjuras Yes they were but I found out why afew days ago. The battery was damaged and the liquid destroyed the whole inside :/
Do you have recommendations of 35mm film brands to use with this camera?
I usually recommend Kodak gold 200 for beginners here - bit.ly/BuyKodakFilm
