    Been using these for 5 years now. Great tools, and the batteries are still available. I'll be using these till they break.

    I like them so much I ended up buying an extra drill and an extra driver (found them on sale). I’ve used them to help remodel our house, build two arbors for our wedding, build a deck for my grandfather, and so much more. Only complaint I have is the charger for my original set went out a little over a year after I bought it.

    $110 for 3 tools, 2 batteries, 1 charger, and a bag, plus the decent run time and performance for the batteries provided is a pretty good deal. Great review.

      Mike L. Thanks Mike! I think the price & performance on these will be hard to beat (or even match) unless you caught some really good sale somewhere else :)

    I don't have the full kit, but I did get the impact driver free, a month ago. Seems to work great. This video was very helpful in getting to know my new tool, since I don't have an owner's manual or anything. Looks like you haven't made any content in a few years? That's too bad, your videos are great. Thanks and cheers.

    I got the predecessor to this set and they make for a great 12v set. I think there are better options in the 12v market, but these will work for most homeowners.

    Nice review, I like the idea of using it to drill small holes. It looks like the drill is designed really well to be able to hold it very steady and get a pretty precise hole by hand. This is the kind of kit that I would highly recommend to someone that just wants a basic set up for some drilling around the house for hanging pictures and what not.
    Hitachi makes good products, they've never let me down. I do love the way their tools look.

      Christopher Sipes Thanks Christopher! For pilot holes, countersinks, and tight spaces....this has really been easy to use & is very light. For a 2nd drill in a shop....or for the homeowner, I definitely think that this kit is a good deal.

    Thanks, for another great review. I have owned an 18 volt Hitachi drill and driver for three years and they have been really great. The only complaint I have is they don't have a fuel gauge.

      DC Rickerson Thanks DC! I agree.....fuel gauges are always nice!

      Their higher-end tools (like the triple hammer impact driver that was just released) have a two-bar indicator built into the tool, but I agree that a 4-bar light built into the batteries would be perfect!

    I'd love to see Hitachi release brushless versions of these tools, even though it's a longshot. Their battery design for these is really unique; I like the fact that the base is still broad enough for them to stand upright. Does this kit also come with battery clips/protectors like their other kits?

    Great review! they look a bit cheap in the video, but they had some pretty impressive run time. As you said, for a typical homeowner who just needs to run the occasional screw or drill a hole or two this is more than sufficient to get the job done well.

      Wild Goose Thanks! For $120, I think they are a great starter/backup set for just about anybody.....they lasted a long time per charge & are very lightweight.

    Interesting concept about the freezing of the batteries. How do you account for the fact that you're wrong though?
    I've kept an M18 1/2" impact with a 4.0 battery in my truck year around for a solid 2 and a half years and other than checking the battery and topping off as needed it's continued to operate fantastic. Now this is in Michigan winters and summers so it's been beat up with both -20 degree and 110 degree (locked truck in the summer) temps and I haven't noticed any degradation of the lithium ion battery performance at all.
    You're walking dangerously close to the shenanigans line again, Sir. Knock it off!
    Thank you for uploading!

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  9 лет назад +2

      Robert Johnson We will have to agree to disagree on this one Robert....the cells deteriorate at very high & very low temps.....they may not "die" all at once, but they will continually degrade over time. I would be willing to bet that if I did a runtime test with your 4.0ah battery & another one with the same amount of charge cycles that was kept within operating range.....the properly stored one would have additional runtime. I do not know the upper/lower limits that actually cause damage, but at $50-$100/each battery....I dont see the point in risking it. Check this out -- www.mpoweruk.com/lithium_failures.htm Thanks for commenting!

    • @RobertJohnson-pb9vr
      @RobertJohnson-pb9vr 9 лет назад

      Real Tool Reviews You're not wrong. There undoubtedly will be some degradation to the battery due to extreme temps. However, without extensive testing can one actually say whether the quantity of the degradation is simply due to battery wear down over lifetime/charge cycles, or the more questionable approach of battery freezing potential? I wholeheartedly respect your knowledge and bow to your experience, but I agree that we'll have to agree to disagree. My experience has never lead me to believe that storage temperature for batteries greatly affects the outcome of it's lifecycle. Thank you for your response, Sir. I'll withhold calling shenanigans........ for now.

    Any chance on a review of Kobalt's 'Direct Drive' socket wrenches? They use a roller-cam system that jams when turned the wrong way. They advertise a 0 degree swing arc because no gear teeth are involved.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  9 лет назад

      ronnies07 Do you mean the ratchet & thumbwheel ratchet?

    • @ronnies07
      @ronnies07 9 лет назад

      Real Tool Reviews
      If your talking about item #0607976 then yes. The lowes over here only stocked #0607975, which as far as I can tell is the same item minus the palm ratchet.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  9 лет назад +1

      ronnies07 The biggest negative with them is the size of the ratchet head.....other than that, the zero degree swing arc (basically) is useful for those tight spaces --- but the physical size of the ratchet prevents it being used a lot of times due to not fitting in those same areas. I will see what I can do about getting them in here....thanks for the suggestion!

    Did you remove all those screws afterwards? Lol. I've always wondered if you use all this wood you do tests on for bonfires in the back yard.
    That light run time is amazing. Too bad it isn't led but still that's a long time. Imagine if it was led...
    I've had a Hitachi drill I bought for a couple hundred after reading reviews on it and it's been an awesome drill from day one. These look a bit cheaper than the one I've had for 5 years but they seem to perform well.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  9 лет назад

      Kimo Kalihi I am about 1/3rd of the way through removing them.....I get bored & take out 50 or so at a time :) Most of the wood goes on the burnpile (unless there is nails/screws in any of it...then to the landfill).
      I was thinking about finding a replacement LED bulb that will fit (via ebay) & re-doing this runtime test with an ultra-efficient bulb.
      One of my first cordless 18v drills was a Hitachi ---- and it still runs to this day at my father's workshop....always had great luck with them.

    • @kimokahikolekalihi
      @kimokahikolekalihi 9 лет назад

      Real Tool Reviews why not burn the wood with nails/screws in it and retrieve them with a magnet?

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  9 лет назад

      Kimo Kalihi 3 dogs.......3 acres.......and lots of places they chew on wood that will pop my tractor's tires ;) My dogs think a firepit is their personal supply of wood to destroy.

    Dewalt's LED light is far superior. Maybe you can get an LED retrofit bulb for this light, similar to the bulbs available for older non-LED Maglight flashlights.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  9 лет назад +1

      Blaine Bugaski It may be....keep in mind the price ($109 for the whole kit). I did try a D-cell maglight LED bulb, but it was too wide....I am going to look around some more until I can find one though.

    • @Guillotines_For_Globalists
      @Guillotines_For_Globalists 9 лет назад

      That is not a bad price. I have an old Hitachi kit back from 1999 or 2000. I just bought a replacement "FEB9" battery for it. It doesn't get used because I always just go to my Dewalt kit, but, yeah.
