I met Petri before a show in Irvine a few years back. He gave me his autograph on a cocktail napkin and told me not to wipe my ass with it. I never did, Petri... ..I never did.
I must say I'm pretty satisfied that Petri went to Ensiferum, he definitely fits in. And out of it we got some great albums, and then Jari carried on with Wintersun, despite the setbacks lol. I'm happy with what happened.
Amazing song. Unbeliveable bass. Worlds best band 4 evah. And there is no problem in Petri singing wrong. Its just good, prooves that everyone can make mistakes. Lovely
As a musician I have more respect for Jari but most of my favorite ensiferum songs are during the time of petri. Though, some absolute knock out like into battle where during jaris' time.
Well Petri records his vocals in the studio quite quicly i've heard, so that's why he might sound different live. As we know Jari likes to take time with his recordings, he seems to be a bit of a perfectionist. Respect for both of them though.
@luxy2down I meant listening to the same songs with both interpretation (Pete and Jari) and comparing. Of course there would be only live versions from Pete and except for Little Dreamer, the others are available as Pro-Shots. (Little Dreamer I heard on From Afar tour)
Awesome! Bands like Ensiferum, Foo Fighters(hard rock/grunge, i am not a big fan of those anymore, but they are best live) and AC/DC are the best! because they have got two guitarists! There are many awesome bands that have only got one guitarist (like Three Days Grace) but i miss one more guitarist in thise bands.

@Palachierico Unfortunately I have to agree (thinking of 'raised by the sword')... even in lives she still doesn't seem to have fully taken over Meiju's position which is being even more obvious, since the other new members (Sami, Pete and Janne) have melted so well into making an awesome team...

Listen to songs such as White Storm, Into Battle, Old Man, Little Dreamer and even Token of Time. Jari could have never interpreted them so strongly. And as to clean vocals I must say Markus has an astounding voice, which I never figured out why they did not use as often with the old line-up. And Sami adds perfectly to the equations. The real fans love the new line-up as much, if not more.
@Lord33Of33Life Well in that case I can alm down again. ;) I never ever liked growlings in music but when I heard the 10th anniversary live, I did not even realize he was growling and now it is even much more my taste. But on the whole I believe Ensiferum needed someone like Jari in the beginning (even as one hell of a lyricist) and after Iron album he didn't have any more to give and to get from Enska, so he had to leave and it was time for someone like Pete, who seems much happier himself now

@Lord33Of33Life Sorry to disappoint you but the heart of Ensiferum has always been MARKUS Toivonen. I could believe that the difference between Jari and Pete is much more of taste and personal preference but I can not hear/read something like Jari being the heart of Ensiferum. Markus was the one who wanted to start Enska, he has been the one to tell which direction it goes ever since. I can not imagine Ensiferum having any other heart and soul.
@Benteiron I mut say I was surprised when I watched some Wintersun live videos. I mean, Jari IS a talented songwriter (no composer though :D) and I assume him to be a real good guitarist as well... but still Ensiferum lives are of other quality. And as to Jukka-Pekka's clean vocals: I am a big fan, so just imagine the 'treat' i got in Nosturi, never thought it could actually happen. XXD
The music of ensiferum has changed alot since Jari left, and i think that Petri's voice fittes the music he has done in ensiferum, and Jari's fitted better when he was in ensiferum. They aren't comperable in my opinion. Both rock
@andrijaVIII2 no it's not.. -.- .Pagan Metal: A documentary .. they say they aren't viking too -.- but it's your free will to call them like you want to. They sing mostly about finnish mithology... and if some band is FOLK it doesn't mean that it's viking too.

@nodeterin You are right as usual. I put petri next to mikael åkerfeldt when talking about good growlers, pete isnt quite as diverse but really good anyway. A lot better than jari ever was live. If these worshippers just watched some live videos with jari singing without right away thinking it will be awesome they would notice that he is actually a rather poor extreme vocalist and not that good at clean vocals either. The reason the clean singing sounds really good on the old albums is JP.
Jari is awesome, but i wouldn't say he was the core of Ensiferum. Markus founded the band and he writes the majority of the music as well as playing guitar and doing the clean vocals.

Jari wasn't the core of ensiferum really, he may have been the most popular member but ensiferum was founded by Markus, and Markus has always been the main songwriter for them, he has also made their best songs in the old albums, except for tale of revenge which was written by Sami (ofc. my opinion). That's also why ensiferum's music didn't really change when Jari was replaced by Petri. And songs like Wanderer are purely bad-ass and Petri's voice is more brutal and fits their newer albums better

Check out Starkill, they're from the U.S., they play badass music with similar vocals, plus they toured with Wintersun recently.

I actually prefer Petri in Ensiferum and i prefer Wintersun to Ensiferum, so it's win-win for me
