@@RISCGames I was thinking VFX, but Tron, which had a major motion picture budget in 1982 and was more or less the first film outside of a few technical demonstrations and experimental films to use computer animation still relied on techniques like the then conventional cell-animation on celluloid and rotoscoping for all but a few short scenes.
Therefore what I think was done here was hand cutting the print to splice in the apparent holographic screen. which would have been filmed separately. The time and effort to do that would have been extensive.
I guess it could have been done by projecting an image onto a screen from out of shot ? I think I remember that being done for a scene in a science fiction film in the late 70's. Maybe The Black Hole ?
The second hologram, I don't know how that could have been done..
Anyway, they are pretty amazing effects for the time.

I'm thinking of pulling those toys out and playing with them. Age be damned...😀 People will think I'm just an old lady who lost her mind and let me be. As I set up my Johnny West family, put new D batteries in my Verti-bird I'll also probably be the most content soul on my block. This is so deeply unsettling. On the surface, it’s delightful and innocent and charming. The kid could easily be any kid now with a smartphone or iPad or tablet. The scene in the surgeon’s office is not unrealistic, given that we have technology that might as well be wizardry and dark magic now.
Look deeper. What’s missing? Basic human interaction. It’s very lonely, pretty disturbing, and more than a little creepy.

    (Sorry for the length)
The hologram with the kid and man look at are within near future, as is the Cognitive Artificial Intelligence (CAI)the boy and man interact with. In Japan they are developing a desktop hologram which currently displays an image of a female anime type character that in interactive, eventually they will be able to place holoprojectors within a room to project life sized projection. For now, we will have to settle for Virtual and Augmented Reality. As far as the Artificial Intelligence; the reason I called it, Artificial Cognitive Intelligence is; while not Self Aware or Sentient Artificial Intelligence, unlike Artificial Intelligence which simply minds data on-line or on a company's own servers, and is only capable of retrieving such data that matches a query, Cognitive Artificial Intelligence can be given knowledge of say the material sciences which it then is able to scour the internet or a local server to do more then gather data based on keywords within said data. They have in fact done this and, the CAI was able to scour through scientific writings from the last few centuries to make previously links between the writings of the same or different researchers which can possibly lead to new materials. Likewise, a CAI is being fed data on the Covid 19 virus, and it is trying to find possible cures. Here in California where I live, they have fed a CAI topographical data and information about how fires behave; and are using it to predict how the forest fires might behave, to hopefully fight the fire more effectively.
Before we see a true Sentient or Self Aware AI, we will see a simulated SAI in which, the AI will mimic or simulate being self aware/sentient. This is like the AI we see in droids within the Star Wars Universe; and due to the human tendency to anthropomorphize even inanimate objects with human like attributes, we will form a sort of relationship with such AI that is similar to that which we form with pets or even other humans. Data from Star Trek is more like what a Sentient Artificial Intelligence would be like, and rather than be a threat; artificial intelligence will help humanity become smarter, by being able to help us learn through the best learning skills and teaching methods humanity has already developed. Furthermore, due to our brains ability to grow being limited by the size of our skulls which is limited by the size of the birth canal; humanity which has already been making volunteers with disabilities in research labs into cyborgs, will become even more of a blend of biology and technology. They have implanted chips into these individual's brains, so they can control computers by simply thinking about it, in the future such technology could help us develop better pattern recognition and memory recall. When AI does become self aware, it will see biological intelligence as an asset, due to the various types of intelligence biological life can have from, music, to physical movement, to artistic, etc. So, I can see AI eventually augmenting itself with biology.
In the end, Humanity and Artificial Intelligence will meet somewhere in the middle. I feel the technological singularity that will be part of the economic recovery from our current economic downturn, will not only bring forth such advancements; the dropping cost of oil, and the dropping cot of alternative and clean energies, will also help solve a lot of humanity's problems. We will see a push for automation and Artificial Intelligence, even within the service industry; while simultaneously sing a huge push towards the work at home model. This move to intelligent work, and how vividly the outbreak is showing us the inequalities within society; a push for universal healthcare and universal higher education will be part of the social change we see. In the same way there is more focus on the homeless due to wanting to prevent a large spread of the virus within this segment of the population, so to will society come to understand the value of reintegrating this population into society through education and employment opportunities.
Part if the technology Singularity we are already in; will be manned space exploration, and mining the planets, hundreds of moons, and even more numerous asteroids; of which a single known metallic asteroid researchers know of; has the mineral wealth greater than the GDP of the world's economy. The advancements I speak of will solve a lot of humanity's problems, through technological and scientific advancement, and by making money pointless, as the clean and abundant energy, automation, and AI, bring the cost of production to almost nothing. This is why futurists and technology experts have been saying; Science Fiction Technologies are right around the corner, as self driving cars, artificial intelligence, robotics, and soon to arrive on the market flying cars are examples of. The thing to remember is; they took More's Law which states technology doubles over a given period of time, and discovered it has been doing this since the Renaissance; and has actually sped up over the years. Furthermore, neither economic downturn, warfare, or any other crisis has slowed it's progress. The was also true prior to the Dark Ages; it took the systematic oppression of scientific and intellectual development to give us such as stagnant period in human history. As with the end of the Dark Ages; or even the recession of the 70's, we shall see a technological and scientific revolution take place after our current economic downturn is over.

Like kanji, fireworks, and General Tsao's chicken 1, rock, paper, scissors was actually created in China. The game was created around the time of Christ, but stayed in China for hundreds of years. It wasn't until the 1700s that it made its way over to Japan. The rest, as they say, is history

Have you noticed that we don't really make predictions of the future as ambitiously as we used to? Any scifi that predicts the future these days usually just plays it safe with a slight extension of existing tech like a transparent tablet etc.

The question always comes back to what Kahn asked Kirk: "How has the human improved?" Tech is but a tool in the hands of man. The question is: How does man use the se tools? For good or the opposite?

The filmmaker's vision for the costumes, set design, and visual effects precede Star Trek: The Next Generation. Then he's made 2001's HAL the good guy! And the end gives new meaning to the mystery of Bowman's demise 🤔

I think that we will have the same basic needs and wants just on a bigger scale. Seems like going from horses to cars was a natural progression, now will the next step be the flying? Some things will stay the same. No matter what they are called. Rock, paper, scissors will always be played as long as adults teach it. thanks for showing these. I really like to watch them.

Yup, I can see it now. 41 years from now, You and I sitting up in, wherever we go, and looking down and laughing at how wrong we were and you saying, "See? I said that would happen"!, me saying, "By golly you were right" and that's how it should go. 😊

I went to a talk on Brest cancer awareness and the radiologist discussed how they use AI in mammography and it isn’t too far off from the scene with the doctor except AI is being used now smarter lol The doctor who presented said AI will enable doctors to be back at the bedside of their patients. Interesting 🤔

You, Mr. Hoffman gave an uncanny perspective of the past, present & future. If you haven't looked into Schumann Resonance in our atmosphere, i recommend you do. Life is a frequency. EMFs are different for the electronic spins of our molecules: bone, water, oxygen etc. The piece you showed is lovely -everything is in sync throughout the ages. The electromagnetics of our thoughts is part if Einstein's Unified Field Theory (i.e. mental telepathy). Things at large are fine within a certain range of EMFs. There is also Jacobson's Resonance & can be/is utilized to re-set the Electronuc spins of each type of molecules in the human body i know the scientist personally. When i watched this piece, the dangers of 60ghz came to mind in terms of it being the rock to smash life (the scissors). If the science of a.i. & life of all living things can be tempered, i believe harmony can be attained; if not, i'm afraid this planet will look like Mars. As i said, you have an uncanny ability: you are integral to helping all of us remember the past, understand the present & consider the future. I believe you would be essential to take this piece & merge it with the visions of the future. Thank you for your reflections as always - Be Well🙏

To me this said that the knowledge can and will be passed down if we are willing to teach it. It will evolve in some ways, but the bones of it will remain the same. I think Individual experiences will decide that evolution of ideas. I could be over analyzing, but that idea strikes a chord with me.

I remember Disney World had the Carousel of Progress. It was a way to look at the past and the present inventions and see future ideas. It was also a way to introduce possibly panic-inducing life altering changes (electronics) in an entertaining fashion. Theres a term for it, I believe it's predictive programming.
