One of my top 5's!! This arrangement by Layne is Epic!! And, Geoff and that range of his is unbelievable. J. None Is featured when he's on leave from the Navy. He used to be full time until Covid.
Totally epic. Layne arrangement - had to convince Geoff to do Frollo... such an evil character... Their cover of Kiss (by Prince) is amazing and often overlooked! J None was a permanent member but left to sing in the Navy. He comes back often as a featured artist (like this one). Cesar is permanent. 🌹🕊
Geoff didn’t want to do this song. He didn’t think he could be that evil. Frolo is probably the most evil villain in Disney. Geoff is so sweet. But he pulled it off as he always does. ❤
In this case, they show Cesar 'playing' the air guitar because he is the one singing the part of the guitar. And they all sound so good on this one that I can almost sympathize with the villain! It should be illegal for Eli to sound so glorious when singing the words "Destroy Esmeralda". And you're right, Layne was amazing on this one. Not only with the arrangement, I get a kick out of using 'bell tones' for a song set in a cathedral. But he also managed the sound of castanets in his beats as well. And Geoff's voice was just gorgeous here. So well rounded and yet he did the kind of 'liturgical' drone just perfectly, leading into the ending.
Patreons kept requesting this and they kept saying no because of how evil Frollo is. However Layne decided that they would go ahead and do it to get it over with and so everyone would stop requesting it They had done a partial of this many years ago when they did "ACA Top 10 Disney Villains". Most all of their Top 10s were done live except Movie Themes and Game Themes. A couple of other of my favorite live videos of theirs.... Road Trip, Chicken Song, Elvira and Grimm Grinning Ghosts. (After a show in Pa). They also did GGG as a music video as well afterwards.
Geoff always said he wouldn't do this song but Layne came up with an arrangement that changed his mind. And he did it well. J is still singing for the navy but we hope will return to be a member once again when his time is up. His real name is Jesse Nunn but the guys do tend to refer to him as J. So yes, I'm sure you can too. :)
J was a member until he left a couple years ago to join the US Navy. He sang for awhile with the Navy Band Northwest, but has been promoted to sing with the Sea Chanters, the Navy’s premier vocal group. Now that he is in Virginia (Washington DC area) it’s easier for Voiceplay to have him come to Florida for recording sessions. He still has a few years to decide, but if he did decide to leave the Navy then, I know the guys would welcome him back.
Not a real guitar...I'm pretty sure that's Cesar's voice electronically distorted. They did something similar with him in In The Air Tonight. ETA: J isn't currently a full member, but he was previously. And he's living closer to the other guys now, so he collaborates with them often.
Hard to believe did this scene for kids. VoicePlay is so good with this - mesmerizing, epic, evil and totally unforgettable. J was a full member before the US Navy recruited him. When he said Bye - he also said he'd be back. He's come as often as he can get away. Check out Friends on the Other Side (first time he came back to to a video with VoicePlay).
