• My Largest Worm Compos...
Harvest, Fluff, Feed, Measure, Gnat Management
This bin was made from cutting a 55 gallon food grade barrel in half long ways and screwing the open ends together to make a 6 foot long bin.

The bin lives in the cellar of my 200-year-old house. In the winter the furnace dries it out, and in the wet season the moisture leaching through the bricks makes the basement very humid. The current set up was started near the first of the year 2021 after the wormpocolypse. A rat was in the basement and all the bins had to be moved to totes and buckets with lids on to protect them. When the rat was ended, I added 4 or more of the in-progress bins/ buckets with the compost mix of red, blue and European nightcrawlers in them to fill the big blue bin. I continued to add ground leaves and food. Currently the bin is undergoing a refresh. I am harvesting the castings as the top of the bin dries and adding new bedding and food. Keeping the moisture even in the bin is difficult in the wet summer. I flip or fluff the bin to keep the air in the bedding. Back to the wedge method starting now.

Great to see blue again, hope you are feeling okay now.
Yep thank you we are all good.
This bin looks really good and you had a nice harvest. Sifting is hypnotising and I could watch an hour-long video LOL
Yep, it was a good harvest. Just in time to make more soil mix. I get a little mesmerized when I sifr too
@@PlantObsessed Do you think you have enough worms for your needs?
Helllooooo....my kneading lady. Good to have u back 😘 after a long long time. Missed u n the blue too. Was thinking about u 3 days ago n wondering when yr next update would come n here u are. Love to watch yr videos. Hope u n yr husband are keeping well . Take care 🙂
Thank you. We are doing good now .
Love seeing how Blue is going. Love your ramblings too😊
Thank you.
I have not long had my worm bin and this by far is the best video I have seen to date on how to go through the bin. Thanks so much. Will watch more in future.
Thank you. I try to include all the things I wondered about in the beginning. I still have issues sometimes.
It is great that we are learning more about worms.
Thank you for watching.
What an unplanned opportunity to do a robust harvest and get the worms congregating in the newer feeding zone. The "old” end looks totally ready to move out to your garden!
~ Sandra
The worms continue to surprise me all the time. I need to get out to the garden.
Wait.... Hold on... WHAT?
My worms *are not a toaster* ?
No wonder the bread comes out moldy rather than golden brown 😂😂😂!!
Your bins look great as always and very well said that "there's a lot of ways to be successful" 👍
Sad but true worms don't make toast lol. Thanks for watching 😃
Thanks for the educational portion of your show. I’ve been adding castings to the garden one transplant at a time as I rescue perennials from around the property.
I’ve not been concerning myself with trying to save cocoons as much as adding castings to rescue flowers.
Some people like to know how to rescue them. I agree I have almost enough...too many worms now lol.
I think the worms that stay in the oldest part are the introverts. They don't do crowds : )
Good theory 👍
The way to run a worm bin is what works best for you and your worms
Which reminds me I have two bins to sort, but after my conversational welsh lessons tomorrow
How is the Welsh going? Is is a pre latin language?
@@PlantObsessed yes ii am finding it hard
But each letter of there alphabet has a sound and it doesn't change unlike English
I can do numbers up to 999 some nouns now I am onto phrases but I can't write any as it's just for conversations
And I am really enjoying it
Gwenno and Llynos on Mondays they are adults
A lad of 13 is going to teach me easy phrases for me to put nouns in
And Eria who is five is teaching me my numbers
A few nouns for you that I can spell
Davad sheep
Ci dog
Dim no
Caws cheese
I'm not so much for eating bedding either🤣😂🤣but yep, if I would have eaten it, they will eat it after it goes bad! Great editing as the view slowly moved down as you were moving down and aerating big blue!! Surprise massive worm balls at the end!! Gotta love it!! Excellent video & discussion!!!🪱🪱🪱
Thank you. Blue always comes through for me.
Love big blue :) I wish I had a protected area for something like that. Rats and raccoons would get into it outside at my house. Thanks for your worm channel 🪱
Thank you for watching. Blue is inside. I have the same issues with racoons and the other critters.
This is an amazing video! Thanks so much!!
I'm so glad you like it. Thank you for watching.😃
Hello, Can you explain what a worm ball is and why it's good. I'm a beginner, just learning and I've heard you say before you're glad to find worm balls. Thanks for all your videos.
The worm ball usually means they are in their happy place with their favorite food.
@@PlantObsessed Thanks so much!
@@PlantObsessed have seen in a couple other worm sites/channels that worm balls are not such a good thing; that it is a defense mechanism and a sign of adverse conditions. in a healthy environment you should find worms well distributed thoughout. ??? : )
@@curtmatthew6964 escape worm balls bad. Normally the bad ones are out of the bedding and on the surface. Clustered around their favorite food is good.
muy bueno buen trabajo
Gracias
Cement worm spit…😂😂
Exactly.
Y didn't provide link on how to make the blue barrel bin.
There should have been a pop up at the end of the video. I'll go look and see if it is broken. Thanks for letting me know.
maverick worms, that's why, rebels
So true. Nothing to be done about it. 😊
Are those worms edible?
For pets yes. I might do it differently if it was for human consumption. I am in the food production industry so I have a unique perspective. There are production facilities in the US for human edible crickets. I believe they make a flour from it.
@@PlantObsessed Wow .. I was thinking about making a burger out of that worm ball haha .. Thanks for the reply. I will be following your channel. ^^
