What an excellent video and a brilliant song. We so miss the original 10cc. Four great musicians, composers and innovators. A classic combination of genius!
when I heard this album for the first time in 1973 I thought THESE GUYS ARE GOOD now hearing these songs all these years later I am thinking THESE GUYS WERE REALLY REALLY GOOD!!!
For me it´s not about pointless comparisons; both Townsend/The Who and 10cc are rated on there individual contribution to our musical landscape and culture, 10cc have left the world a legacy few can equal for sheer diversity and musical integrity - and they done it all with a liberal sprinkling of tongue in cheek British humour! Musical Genius.
Had the album 10cc played it a lot then moved on, for some reason trashed the album, couple of years later bought the album again in a two for one with Sheet Music on vinyl, ditched the Record play. Will have to either get the record player out or get other media copy and revisit the original great album which this is from. The album is so good and it doesn't half stir up the feelings.
This song really stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it. I was surprised to hear that it was originally part of the Hotlegs song "You Didn't Like It Because You Didn't Think Of It" (B side of "Neanderthal Man".
Lot of people just miss the point about this band. They are not copying bands like the Beach boy they are doing a parody of them and other influences while at the same time building on a base with their irony and musical ideas. At the same time they respect these bands but they are pretty playful Pop shouldn't be that serious.
I bought this album when it came out. I was 14. I'd heard a few singles and liked them, but when I heard this song I was emotionally shaken. It still makes me cry. It is superb. It's amazing how a group of lads from Manchester in England managed to convey an American experience so well. Try listening to The Ghetto by Mark-Almond (not Marc Almond), a British band from the early 70s. They did a similarly good job. ruclips.net/video/EuS_cqaXZ7M/видео.html
I keep thinking that Billy Joel could have written and sang this. Piano Man was released in '73 also. And nothing wrong with being influenced by young Billy Joel. Not saying that's what happened cause I have no idea. But you can't deny the similarities.
You can like what you want. But I think you're a little overboard on your praise. I'll admit, this song sounds a bit more accomplished than the others on this album. I can hear the Beach Boys influence. And a little bit of Hall and Oates.
10cc were genius and mega talented in all departments, NUFF SAID!
Sad that most people will never hear this in their life. I wish they could. Might make the world a little better.

Pure genius! My all time favourite band!! 💖
Reminds me a lot of The Band. Kevin Godley looked and sounded like Richard Manuel of The Band. He's a very underrated soul singer IMO.
Mint ! : )

Best comment about 10cc i have ever read.
Yeah, and I think it's worth pointing out that this first album, the whole album is a homage to the USA.
That lead vocal really reminds me of Freddy Mercury in places.
+hklinker Yes, especially when he says Mama!
I get Freddie 'n' Billy Joel.
@@AstraMusicOfficial except that Freddie's "mama" came more than 2 years after this 10cc song
This is a reworking of You Didn't Like It, Because You Didn't Think Of It, the b side to Neanderthal Man. Wonderful song,
buy their stuff if you like it. I did.

Seriously? No, Townshend is genius. Not this.
