In 585 the last number, “5”, means TERRATRAC. A wheel version would be a “580R”. The “R” is for rotary, meaning it’s got twin rotor separation instead of straw walkers.
I remember 400 then 500 series came out in CAT yellow n black in Australia. When 600 came next it was in Claas colours. Big combine in its day and only combine offering tracks. Pa was considering replacing MF 3342 SP combine for 480 walker combine, he was big Caterpillar fan.👍love seeing 🇺🇸 wheat fields
Ive seen a lot of farmers that like to collect the chaff for wheat of barley, I heard cows love it and its good for them only I know wheat chaff you have to mix some anhydrous ammonia in it to bring up the nutrient value. Ive even seen one guy who likes to mix his straw and chaff and bale it and makes the bale just as good as really good hay which comes in handy if you got a bad hay crop.
Next wheat season you should come out to see J. D. Russell hay and straw in northwest Ohio they do something called stripper straw and I work for them and I’d be glad to give you a tour if they are up for it
bigtractorpower well it’s a lot to explain but basically they use a special header on the combine to only get the wheat heads then they take a Draper head on a haybine and cut down the “stalks” of the wheat plant and we bale that
It blows air down onto the apron of the header so that the crop goes up into the feeder shute and doesn't spill out the front on to the ground...hope this helps
I've round baled behind a Claas 580tt though it didn't have a divide on the back it still left it in two rows hence why we went over with a rake the following year. I am dreading baling some of our neighbours barley as it looks as thick as last year and the row lifted our Ford 6610 off its wheels.
Does this farm use these bales for there own use or do they sell them to other farms or do they sell them to like construction companies that might use it for seeding grass
That's a very interesting and (I would guess) efficient setup for straw production. Do they ever bring in big square balers to do the same job as the 348s?
I was thinking the same thing but it is most likely used for comfort than for hp. And if the tractor is available, why not use it. It definitely saves your lungs from all the dust lol.
I live east of St.Paul Minnesota and I cannot remember the last time I saw a farmer doing any kind of hay or straw baling. That must happen only for dairy or horses? My family’s farm got a new pull type New Holland automatic bale wagon in the late 70’s. I got to run it several times even though I was probably only 11 or 12 when we got it. I could run just about anything with a tractor but I wasn’t strong enough to stack bales on a wagon.
Come to Idaho. I can get you John Deere case ih and new holland all making windrows. We run new holland combine with 40 foot heads my bailer guys hate me but oh well.
That's what I figured. I grew up out here, and am used to seeing red clover quickly cover wheat and oat stubble as soon as it's cut. We used to use buckwheat as a cover crop/green manure in our garden. We'd alternate sides every year. You had to catch it early and disc it under, or it'd reseed itself, and you'd be pulling out tons of it from the working part, lol.
They could but double crop beans can’t be done in New York. Not a long enough growing season. The clover is used as green manure and plowed under in the fall.
first of the r does not mean track system we have a 560r and it doesn't have tracks the r stands for rotor instead of straw walker. the number 5 at the end 585 is for tracks if it was 580 it would be a tired machine.
bigtractorpower no biggie we all make mistakes I had to do a double take when you said that. btw if your ever in Indiana hit me up we run 12 claas choppers and mowers on hay and silage in indiana and michigan.
massy harris made some. i have an old broshure somwhere. the massy-harris 890 combine had a lot of extra equipment available here in denmark including a baler
The Deere is confined to a 20' header... then put a divider on it as well like the Claas and put larger head on it and it has the same capacity. Making it sound like the Deere can't hang...
The Deere is not really set up to split the windrow. The Lexion has two rotors and the divider keeps the straw divided as it comes out. The Deere does a fine job but the Lexion allows the farm to run wider.
Nice, we like them because they have the engine on them so it’s easier and has less stress on the tractors, since every other balers besides hesston are pro driven
that jd tractor just strugels whit that baler lol whe use ah new holland 8340 tractor from 1994 whit 125 hp vor this size baler it dosent even feel that thing
First what is a jong boy? second a really doubt an 8130 is struggling running a baler, that type of baler (specifically johndeere) bounces ALOT when it packs the bales.
chunkmen ican tel it struggels becaus of the sound our 8340 wil pres the same amound of staw ore hay whit dubbel the speed and lis bag drag in.the engin
Hey Big tractor power, I'm from upstate New York and a big fan of your channel. Check out my cousins farm in Fabius N.Y., they have a large dairy farm, maybe you could get out and film them. It's Barbland Dairy. Have a good one.
bigtractorpower So when caterpillar was selling class combines at their dealerships typically they had cat engines right, so do the European class combines or the “green, orange and white” ones also have a cat engine too?
The farm runs 6 balers over 2,000 acres. Every row crop tractor on the farm gets used. If you were baling that much ground do you want sit on a 4020 or 8130?
The Lexion Combines are beasts! Great video!
They are impressive. Thank you for watching.
Nice video B.T.P.🚜,my favorite part of this video was watching the stack wagons collect the straw and make one GIANT block of straw.Very nice!.
They are cool machines.
....... and the US flag is flying.... as a UK Citizen, it brings a tear to the eye - this patriotism in the dusty workplace... ON A GERMAN machine Oh o O O OH!
Man! BTP what figures you're dealing out today :-) Will have to come back and comment more - - but I've ALREADY learnt / understood some more of a different way of life over there, thanks.
Thank you for watching.
Excellent video, awesome to see the harvest, baling and pick-up in one video,
It’s a neat process.
In 585 the last number, “5”, means TERRATRAC. A wheel version would be a “580R”. The “R” is for rotary, meaning it’s got twin rotor separation instead of straw walkers.
at least I wasnt the only to point that out too we got a 560r I was like hmmm ours is missing the tracks then
Quite entertaining to see an 8000 series Deere running a small square baler!
This farm runs six balers. Every row crop tractor on the farm gets pulled into baling service.
Everybody can agree the 780TT is the Bugatti of the combine world eh!
Thanks for braving the heat
This day was only in the 80s but I film several days a year in 100 degree heat.
Awesome video
Thank you for watching.

I filmed a 670 walker machine from Claas a few weeks ago. The CAT yellow machines are doing well in North America.
I like the divider the made for the Lexion. We have a 20ft head on our 1660 and sometimes I think it's a lil much material for our NH 275 baler
At 5:00, if you could have had a drone to see the combine emptying itself in the truck, would have been very cool ;-)
That would be a nice view.

bigtractorpower well it’s a lot to explain but basically they use a special header on the combine to only get the wheat heads then they take a Draper head on a haybine and cut down the “stalks” of the wheat plant and we bale that
That is really kool
👍
I’m a John Deere fan but that a nice cat lexion
Ayden FAze but the 9650 though
Big tractor what does the air blower do on the grain head 🤔🐝Thank u🤓
It blows air down onto the apron of the header so that the crop goes up into the feeder shute and doesn't spill out the front on to the ground...hope this helps
tooez90 Yes it does 🤠Thank u tooez90 🐝
Hi nice work
I've round baled behind a Claas 580tt though it didn't have a divide on the back it still left it in two rows hence why we went over with a rake the following year.
I am dreading baling some of our neighbours barley as it looks as thick as last year and the row lifted our Ford 6610 off its wheels.
Does this farm use these bales for there own use or do they sell them to other farms or do they sell them to like construction companies that might use it for seeding grass
I think most of them go to horse tracks.
Okay cool i wasnt sure. I know small squares are still commonly use for various stuff but was curious what they did with theirs
That's a very interesting and (I would guess) efficient setup for straw production. Do they ever bring in big square balers to do the same job as the 348s?
No all of this farms straw goes into small square bales.
The 8130 makes that baler look small !! Do you have any idea how many bales they put up ??
I am not sure. They bale 2,000 acres of straw I believe.
very nice video👍 it's a littlebit different in western new york. why they are baling small bales ?
The straw is sold to the horse racing industry.
Do them bale wagons have airbrakes?
What was growing under the wheat
Red clover. It is used as a green manure. They broadcast it over snow in February and let it grow all summer and plow it under in November.
bigtractorpower. Cool thx for answering I never been to New York I'm use to TN notill farming.
6:56 wow. A little overpowered for that baler? :-)
I was thinking the same thing but it is most likely used for comfort than for hp. And if the tractor is available, why not use it. It definitely saves your lungs from all the dust lol.

Case IH combines separate straw from chaff.
I hope to find a Case IH window rowing straw to be baled sometime to film.
Come to Idaho. I can get you John Deere case ih and new holland all making windrows. We run new holland combine with 40 foot heads my bailer guys hate me but oh well.
it would be nice to re visit them plowing the red clover
Hopefully I can do that sometime.
All the green in the stubble is that weeds or is it cover crops seeded in?
Clover that was over seeded. They plow it up for green manure in the fall.
That's what I figured. I grew up out here, and am used to seeing red clover quickly cover wheat and oat stubble as soon as it's cut. You are correct. I goofed in that. I was doing the specs from memory and messed up on the model number.
bigtractorpower no biggie we all make mistakes I had to do a double take when you said that. btw if your ever in Indiana hit me up we run 12 claas choppers and mowers on hay and silage in indiana and michigan.
Would he be using the air reel
The air reel is used in soybeans.
bigtractorpower oh I see cause I’ve heard of people using them in wheat
Is that alfalfa growing below the wheat?
Clover that was over seeded and will be plowed under as green manure in the fall.
What town was this near in New York
About 20 miles from Rochester
bigtractorpower cool we got a farm just south of the area where you were
Caleb Bootes Caledonia
jayden corcoran Paul Stein and sons?
Adam Offen yes my father does wheat for them with the John Deere’s
did you know that back in the 50s you could buy a new combine with a built in baler as part of the extra stuff you could buy
Which company offered that?
massy harris made some. i have an old broshure somwhere. the massy-harris 890 combine had a lot of extra equipment available here in denmark including a baler
That farm is slick boy planted through standing wheat and harvesting between the rows of soybeans.
It is red clover that you see. It’s over seeded for green manure that is plowed up in the fall.
What is all the green in the field ?
Was this a mother-crop with alfalfa ?
Red clover. It is over seeded to be plowed under as green manure in the fall.
bigtractorpower Thanks. I suppose that the straw needs some extra drying-time with the clover in it .
bigtractorpower how do they plant the clover with out disturbing the wheat?
walker parsons: They plant both at the same time.
la claas lexion est la meilleur des moissonneuse! moi j ai une lexion650 c est le top
Whst size combine 7 or 8
Class 8. The 595R is class 9.
The Deere is confined to a 20' header... then put a divider on it as well like the Claas and put larger head on it and it has the same capacity. Making it sound like the Deere can't hang...

6:37 isnt that kind of overrated . big horse powers vs small baler
Why not round bales? I thought small bales were yesterdays technology.
Big market for small squares in WNY for the horse market.
Yes my family has sold horse hay a lot and they like the small square bales
There are a lot of farms out there that still use small squares yet. We are one of them.
Yes for hay OK, same here in UK but this is straw.
Ronnie G Small farms, individuals and horse barns with individual stalls don’t have the equipment to deal with round bales.
I wonder how long it has been since anyone used bailing wire rather than bailing twine.
I think wire fell out of favor in the 60s but I think it may still be used in the south west for some applications.
Claas is it????????
Yes it is a Claas. It has the Claas name across the back.
Rather big tractor for bailer
They run six balers so every row crop tractor on the farm is put on a baler.
Nothing worse than having to deal with all those idiot blocks
By the way. The lexion isn't a twin rotor. It's a hybrid not a full twin rotor.
No, lexion is a hybrid with one main drum with accelerator drum plus TWO rotors
Those John Deeres are my combines this is a customer we do custom
It was great to film your 9650s.
Was it the same video as the other 9650 or different
Everyone uses John Deere balers but we use Freeman’s witch in my opinion are better
This farm had a Freeman for many years. I wish was filming back when they ran it.
Nice, we like them because they have the engine on them so it’s easier and has less stress on the tractors, since every other balers besides hesston are pro driven
I wonder how much those new Holland stack cruisers weigh with a full load
I am not sure. Good question.
that jd tractor just strugels whit that baler lol whe use ah new holland 8340 tractor from 1994 whit 125 hp vor this size baler it dosent even feel that thing
jeffrey hollink it really didnt look like it struggled
chunkmen than you have to watch it again jong boy
I will check it out. Thank you for the invite.
Im from Canada, lol cash cropoftw
Why is all claas combines yellow in America and green in Europe?
They are yellow in the United States because they were sold through Caterpillar dealers starting in 1998.
bigtractorpower okay thanks for the answer ;)
bigtractorpower So when caterpillar was selling class combines at their dealerships typically they had cat engines right, so do the European class combines or the “green, orange and white” ones also have a cat engine too?
Tristan Hapke the smaller ones used to have CAT engines, but the bigger models have Mercedes engines. Our old 580 has a Mercedes V8 :)
Thanks for the claas video better than john deere shit
Halil Genc Thanks to Caterpillar claas wouldn't even be existing.
Mackenzie owen claas is the best king of harvesters
Halil Genc I just play farming simulator but next time I get a Claas mod I'll review and show probably a Lexion and Jaguar.
😃🐝👍🏻
8 series deere on an idiot brick maker. That’s overkill if I ever saw it!
The farm runs 6 balers over 2,000 acres. Every row crop tractor on the farm gets used. If you were baling that much ground do you want sit on a 4020 or 8130?
bigtractorpower if I was the farm owner I would sit on the machines that was the cheapest and most efficient for the job.
What’s the point in buying a tractor for the one job, it’s more efficient to make the best use of a machine year round surely!
The irony of the “why they don’t bale straw” to this vid lol.
Different regions. Different cropping.
Hey
Hi
John Deere balers are still noisy as then? Pieces of junk
What baler do you prefer?
plenty of horsepower on the baler... lol...
It’s all hands on deck for baling on this farm. They run 6 balers so every row crop tractor gets used.
