As a Canadian I am disappointed at seeing my country beaten so badly but not surprised by this result. I know the team played their best but I never like seeing my country loose on the international stage. Hopefully lessons can be learned from this and lead to progress in the future.

As a Canadian, I dont mind. I just hope our guys had fun. What really matters at the end of the day is the exercise. I am a New Zealander and as everybody knows Rugby is a Kiwi religion but Canada being at the world cup and take on the triple world champions is an achievement in its own right, they are on the right track it takes some years to develop a demanding sport such as rugby and a lot of investment and sponsorship to build a good league then they’ll start seeing results.

Japan got beaten by the All Blacks 145-17 in the 1995 World Cup, look how much better they are now. Argentina are also miles better than the used to be from playing in the Rugby Championship the last few years - they need more opportunities to play the top tier sides between World Cup's. And exposure at this level may help get them more recognition in their countries, leading to more interest and funding. USA are pretty decent at 7's now after interest in the game picked up there from having their own round of the world comp and top athletes also saw it as an opportunity to get medals at the Olympics.
I disagree with half of your arguement. The Sevens style format would suit the World Cup better. It would be a disservice to them in the long run to exclude them from playing the best at least they get a taste of what its like playing with the top teams and have a goal to work towards as well. A d having a Champions League competition for rugby widens the game further too that would be awesome!!

Was it just a few days ago I read journalists warning Ireland that they should not humiliate Russia. Whichever journalist wrote that is an idiot. At the end of the day this is a world cup and not u10s schoolyard stuff. Both teams should play as hard as they can for 80 mins and if one team gets obliterated then they need to go away and improve.

not sure it would work with all due respect as a SAffer in Canada myself. The culture here is just completely different to NZ (and most rugby playing Southern Hemisphere nations). And I've come to learn how important culture really is in affecting so many things including sports.
@@LitoGeorge nonsense. it is not that Canadians or other nations that are not rugby nations could not be good at the game because of something in their culture. Canadians are good at other team games, other hard hitting games etc. Kids just grow up playing other games is all. They grow up wanting to play hockey like Brazilian kids grow up wanting to play soccer...

And your story about the kids growing up playing other games is precisely the part about culture I was relaying. Further, if you are Canadian and havent lived in a Southern Hemisphere country that favours rugby at a kindergarten to international level for about a decade, you dont have a clue as to the nuances of culture in what I refer to.
@@LitoGeorge what are you talking about the national sports are hockey and lacrosse. If you take these away what else is left? No different than you take away rugby from NZ. There is no mysterious 'nuance' to a missing culture, rugby just is not that popular in Canada and kids grow up playing different sports. It's not that complicated. Rather than rugby they play hockey from a young age. If Canadians, and other small nations, had more opportunities playing with and against better competition as adults and more importantly younger ages would that not have positive impacts or? I'd argue it would.
I am a New Zealander and as everybody knows Rugby is a Kiwi religion but Canada being at the world cup and take on the triple world champions is an achievement in its own right, they are on the right track it takes some years to develop a demanding sport such as rugby and a lot of investment and sponsorship to build a good league then they’ll start seeing results.

Not sure how matchups like this benefit either team or the rwc. Four groups of four. Run a plate comp at the same time for 17-32 in the rankings. Tier 1+2 matches at the weekend; tiers 3+4 during the week. There'll be more competitive games (and more games) 🏈🏈🏈🏈😊
Japan got beaten by the All Blacks 145-17 in the 1995 World Cup, look how much better they are now. Argentina are also miles better than the used to be from playing in the Rugby Championship the last few years - they need more opportunities to play the top tier sides between World Cup's. And exposure at this level may help get them more recognition in their countries, leading to more interest and funding. USA are pretty decent at 7's now after interest in the game picked up there from having their own round of the world comp and top athletes also saw it as an opportunity to get medals at the Olympics.
I disagree with half of your arguement. The Sevens style format would suit the World Cup better. It would be a disservice to them in the long run to exclude them from playing the best at least they get a taste of what its like playing with the top teams and have a goal to work towards as well. A d having a Champions League competition for rugby widens the game further too that would be awesome!!
