Hip drop tackle is not banned. Only the dangerous swivel technique
This game is dummer than Madden
Refs talking abt rule changes: "Anybody who says tackle gets a 100 yard penalty. If u tackle anybody the other team automatically wins."
“What the script say? Penalty?”
Basically, how do you tackle someone from behind now? No horse collar. No wrap around the hips. I guess you have to dive at their ankles. Once defense starts landing on the back of players ankles and heel, and a bunch of Achilles tears happens, then they'll ban that too
Hip drop tackle is not banned. Only the dangerous swivel technique
@Yoni123 So the gator roll tackle that we have been taught to do since Pop Warner is now illegal

*Tackle Football IS turning to Flag Football. It’s not a question any longer; it’s a statement of fact.*
Except there aren't any flags to snag. So, not quite yet.
Soon the ball carrier will be down once the defender enters their safe space
Not it's gonna be 3-Sec Hold🤣
@@zeeseeds8151I CAN SEE THIS 👀
The defender will have to ask the ball carrier for permission to tackle next.
I'm 56 years old. I have been a huge football fan my entire life. I have never heard the term "hip-drop tackle" until last week when I heard it was a thing for the rules committee. To this moment (including this video) nobody has bothered to define what this is. From all of the video I have seen, all I can infer is that you can no longer tackle a ball carrier from behind. This is ridiculous.
It's so weird, the way I interpret it that if your hands/arms wrap around their "hips" it's a flag? But body and legs are fine 🥴
It's really simple. Can't put your body weight onto the legs of the person you are tackling.
If NFL players were taught to tackle with their shoulders not their head and hands it wouldn't be a problem
@@DJLuvMuffin. Oh so now a tackler is in full control of how bodies fly after contact... Yeah this is the dumbest rule I've ever heard of
@@DJLuvMuffinso players are supposed to just run at them with their shoulders and hope the offensive players doesn’t change direction?
@killersan6857 sounds like you have never watched rugby league or union.
This is craziness. How in the Hell are you supposed to enforce such nonsense.
I don’t know how there going to tackle guys like Derrick Henry.
@@cameren3219 it's funny I said the exact same thing to my coworkers today. Great minds think alike bud 😀. I don't have a clue how in the hell they're going to enforce this complete and utter BS !!

how you supposed to tackle now?
You can’t 😂😂😂😂
That’s the neat thing, you don’t.
nah bro the refs gonna ban tackling all together next 💀💀💀
Very Carefully! LOL

If they really cared about players getting injured they would have got rid of turf grass
It’s all about money that’s it they don’t care about players health it’s money
Im guessing your supposed to ask them politely to fall down now. The games turning into Sarcastaball like South Park predicted 🤣

Time for some Sarcasta-ball 😂
Derrick Henry and DK Metcalf laughing right now
DK METCALF can walk gingerly to the middle of the field a bunch of corners bounce off him, a couple safeties knock him back a couple of steps. Just slowly but surely mosey on down the field until the linebackers start showing up, then out run them to the end zone. Gonna look like every play is in slow motion.

I’m calling it: Refs are going to miss two of these blatant calls that would go against the chiefs in games that are down to the wire so patty mahomes can be the first QB to win three in a row. So the NFL is saying we can’t even touch the guy anymore
Pause
George Halas, Tom Landry, Chuck Noll, and other brilliant defensive coaches of the past are rolling over in their graves due to what the modern NFL has become.
Football is a contact sport....what exactly are they trying to accomplish here other than just making it an offensive game. Players on defense won't be as important and get paid less as a result. Probably one of the reasons why the Chiefs didn't hang onto Sneed for $19m a year....CB probably won't be worth that much after this
They are trying to accomplish less players getting hurt and getting CTE

Unbelievable there's literally going to be flags on every play
A player from the 1960s would find it difficult to even play today's game. The great defenses would be penalized on every play
A player from 1960 probably wouldn’t even make a roster*

The players don't want this though literally the NFLPA begged for them to not do it but the owners are the only opinion that matters
Except the players didn't make this decision...
Responses like this are exactly what makes fans' opinions useless. Pay attention, man. You clearly don't know many players personally
i think this too & i think allot players are gonna have a FALSE sense of security lower there gaurd and get smacked and injured mark my words 😂😂😂
Easier to fix games this way. Its all related to Vegas. Everything in this world worth millions of billions of dollars always has corrupt practices involved with it. Ill be sure to count how many times this is called in favor of the Chiefs considering theyve gone back to back seasons now being the most penalized offensive line and then not getting a single oline holding call in back to back postseasons.
Don't forget that every single time Mahomo throws an INT, it's a penalty against the defending team somewhere!!!
@@sexgod57able that’s actually true because he leads the league in reversed INTs thrown.
If the nfl was on the rigged money train itd be dallas or nyg winning… real money trains
Basically if the playmaker is already passed you, just get ready for the next play lol
😂
It’s pretty much going to be players relying on shoe string tackles constantly, how else are you gonna take a guy down from behind if you can’t go for the hips right away? Pause
Sacking the QB gonna be a $50,000 fine
Unless it's Mahomes, then it's a hundred grand.
Quarterbacks will be the first to wear flags and not be eligible for tackle without penalty.
This gives refs the opportunity to make even more ambiguous calls and thus makes it easier for them to control and manipulate a game
If they wanted to protect players they would be talking about getting rid of fake turf. If they think bringing scores up are going to get more fans, this is a great move!
Thing is defense is exciting too…
Yeah if they didn’t handcuff them every single time/year!
Not anymore.
Defense will just be non existent at this point
Jerry doesn't realize he's the one hurting his team. One reason is bc of Jerry's ego. I'm not sure if drop hip tackle should be illegal. Bc football is a rough sport. Players have been injured with zero contact. Just in SB 58 SF LB Dre Greenlaw's leg gave out when he started running on the field. He took two maybe three steps then face planted. Dre tore his Achilles tendon.
I actually love it it keeps the season interesting it’s like Ik the cowboys are going to fuck up it’s just when and I love it more the better the cowboys do it’s like a rollercoaster the higher it goes the funner it will b when it comes down 🤣
Emphasis on the certain type of hip drop tackle being banned, not the tackle as a whole, is important here.
But the NFL actually cared, they would lay out the correct way they want a player to be tackled from behind, and not leave it up to players to figure it out. Fines and penalties are what they want 😔
What is a DB supposed to do if hes trailing a WR?
Politely ask them to fall down.
This rule would be ridiculous. When a defender is desperately hanging on to Derrick Henry and he's being dragged, is he just supposed to let go??
This is not football any more. When will the NFL threw out the "you can't touch Mahomes" rule.
They want to increase their chances to get away with scripting a little more and blurring the lines of tackles makes it even easier.
First it was the Brady rule, then it was the late hits to quarterbacks.. (but only SOME quarterbacks!) Then it was the major change
on what signifies and actual catch. These days depending on the WR, they may have to catch the ball, call home and check in on
their wives, take atleast 7 steps towards the opposing teams endzone, and phone a friend for it to be considered an actual catch.
Now this. All of these changes allow the NFL to continue scripting games while mob bosses and anyone in the know continues
to place bets via sites like *draft kings* and make millions of dollars off knowing what team is scripted to win. The good news is,
at least people are finally waking up to the idea of the league being scripted. I already know several people that have completely
walked away from watching the NFL anymore. I still watch but I don't put the energy or emotion into the results the way I used to
do back in the day before I started waking up to the league being scripted around 2010.
Concussion wise, it is one of the safest ways to tackle in open space. Orthopedic injuries are part of any sport. These guys know what they signed up to.
This right here
I like how your dog was like fuck that salmon
Give em Flags at this point idk bro
Imagine doing your job for 10 plus years and then someone that doesnt do it and has zero experience comes in and tells you to completely change how you are doing things and their reasoning is “safety” even though it was already safe enough. Same thing here
Why don’t they just call it rough touch…lol😢. It’s an effort to make the game even more rudimentary. I watched a Suoerbowl where the winning team’s offensive lineman were grabbing guys jumping in the air and physically pulling them down…. Hello holding. Referees have ruined the sport I have loved. Literally watching football since I was 3 years old. Played football and know a lot of professional players.
The league is missing the mark with this. Good defense is FUN to watch too. Gonna get to a point where there's no point in even paying defensive players when they can't do anything. When was the last time the league integrated a rule that catered to defense?
you just said it's the swivel hip drop tackle, that is the tackle that is causing those injuries. This is a great rule in my book.
Why Not call it the FFL . . . Flag Football League.
You are absolutely correct Mike ! My research has discovered that the NFLs' #1 Priority is to implement or eliminate rules in order to increase high scoring games.
In other words, it's not just hip-drop tackles ( which has always been the correct way to tackle in football and I knew that when I played in high school) it's any play ,any
rule that discourages scoring. The NFL believes that high scoring games are the way to increase pro footballs popularity.
The massive TE’s are already hard to tackle and their making it even more difficult. This is such a gay ban.
What!? You can't be gay in the NFL
The league is worried about marketable players, rainbow flags and ESG scores, not football.
@@1vasconia The NFL, in its own commercial, said, “Football is gay.”
@@steelmongoose4956 no wonder I love it so much! 🍆😮
@@1vasconia But complaining about a gay rule change when the league is promoting the game itself as gay makes no sense. It’s a feature, not a bug.
Side note: Your dog didnt eat the Good Chop bro. Might have to edit that out. Thats bad press 😂
I was thinking the same thing😂😂😂
There was a lot of this tackle going on at the end of the year a year ago. Rolling on the players leg on purpose during and after the tackle.
1) you can't tackle face to face
2) you can't tackle and slam a guy to the ground
3) you can't land hard on a QB
4) you can't tackle a QB in the pocket bellow or at their knees
5) you can't grab a guy's pads from behind and pull him down by it
6) you can't grab a guy's facemask and pull him down by it
7) you can't grab a guy, leave your feet and land on his legs
How are they supposed to tackle anything now?
I'm not even trying to be cheeky or feign ignorance, legit how you supposed to tackle now?
If the ball carrier gets past the defender they might as well not even try.
Its gonna be interesting to see how teams are gonna try to tackle big fast guys like Saquon Barkley and Derek Henry now in the open field? 😮
The defensive players need to just let the offense score all the time. Nobody gets hurt, and it increases scoring. Make a mockery of the rule and see what happens
So are defenders supposed to hold the air traffic lights and guide the offense to the end zone
We can always say, “if that tackle didn’t happen that way, they wouldn’t get injured…” it’s getting so bad.
Everyone is going to have to make the "Derwin James on Travis Kelce" tackle and nothing else.
Hip drop tackles are still legal it's only a flag if you land on the ball carriers legs/knees.
That is 90% of how they tackle...watch Key on Mahomes Jags 2023
@gnd111 I understand that it's a major part of how they tackle, but if you watch players such as Ray Lewis use the hip drop tackle, he almost never lands on their legs. It's an extremely easy way to hurt a player in a very big way. Major leg injuries such as the ones we saw this year and the one that happened to pollard can be carreer altering. They made this decision with that in mind.

"Hip-drop tackle" is a new trend people complaining about the ban forgot you suppose to WRAP tackle something that is Football 101 basics and has been the standard for 100 years
Great... Now it is going to take 6 hours to get through a game. The amount of penalties is going to be insane and will make the games unwatchable.
They are changing the rules for offensive linemen, too. They can block defensive rushers, but they cannot touch them. They can only stand in the way.
Can’t wait for spring football!!
Defensive players: When and where do I get the tackle?
The NFL: that’s the neat part, you don’t 💀
Look at the National Rugby League in Australia, they banned hip drop tackles, and still very physical.
*Breaking News* the NFL has announced it is banning tackling due to player safety “We’ve realized that we simply can’t allow this dangerous and barbaric technique. Impacting the offense’s ability to score.” said commissioner Roger Goodell. Going forward defenders will have to play rock paper scissors with the offensive player. Before a play can be ruled dead by a referee.
They had to make this rule because alot of the kids coming into the league are rolling over peoples legs on purpose.
I don’t disagree with the scoring comment in this video. But at the same time I am thinking it’s also about the fact that players get health care later in life if they spend enough time in the league. It’s about increasing revenue but also about cutting down on health care costs. It’s all some bullshit. Bring back 80s 90s football when it was football the wages keep going through the roof you take the chance of being critically injured for hundreds of millions on dollars. Suck it up and take it
I'm old school and have watched a lot of football. It just makes me appreciate the offensive players of old who didn't have all these restrictions on the defense and played at a high level.
I love defensive games, and the Browns shutout of the Cardinals last year made me so happy to see.
The offense is so soft anymore in the league I don't know if I can keep watching. What a joke!!!
No Might, it WILL. Another rule to use at discretion and to prop up certain teams. The sportsbooks will love this. The NFL died today.
Tackle that happened only 239 times out of 20,000+ tackles. Will not ruin NFL. What will ruin it is Refs calling random penalties for it
Derek Henry's 2,400 yard 2024 season will need to have an asterisk next to it.
It’s the identical situation as the “horse collar” tackle. I’m sure the refs will blow it again. Grabbing the collar isn’t dangerous, but grabbing then swinging one’s hips into the ball carrier’s legs is. Now we’ll see 15-yard penalties for clean plays just like we’ve seen with the collar. Get a clue, NFL!
How about Rugby tackling? The only other alternative to the launch, dive and slam tackle (my interpretation) is to take away padding from everyone. They are so protected by pads and specially engineered helmets that now that there is no consequence to tackling. Maybe the new rule will increase scoring which is what everyone wants right? Pro football is so boring now with the frequent video reviews and QB’s arm going forward, out of bounds or was the ball carrier down before he lost the ball among others. Almost every kicking run back there is a penalty. It’s a game run by lawyers and committees.
It's not hip drops that are illegal, it's hip drops with a swivel. Basically don't end up on the receiver's legs and it's fine.
Only way to make this right is let the defenders keep hands on the offense no matter how many yards down feild. Not hold them but essentially block them
I dont like the NFL especially the Refes
All 32 teams should walk out this season b/c the players and fans both know that this is a BS rule.
The hip drop tackle that was banned is the version where people are swinging their whole body around the ball carrier and drops it on the carriers back of the legs and ankles. Damn near looks like they are sitting on the ball carriers legs. People that are saying there is no other way to tackle people are clowns. How long have you been watching football? Haha I remember people saying the same shit when the horse collar tackle was banned.
Someone with a brain in the comments, I didn't think that was allowed.
When I played, horse collar tackles were legal. I played at 165. Running backs were 230. If nothing else, although coaches wanted the tackle made at all costs, they also wanted to see how we hit pad to pad. It'll change the game in, as Mike stated, illicit flagging.
This is what happened to basketball. Officiating got so in favor of offense that it just became a joke and now NBA is losing its spot as the 3rd most popular american sports league (behind college football and NBA)
Fans: " Too many games are being decided by penalties"
NFL: "Watch This!"
As a Florida state fan this hip drop tackle. Possibility ruined Jordan Travis’s career and even costed a whole school a championship spot. Just like I think leading with your head should be banned I agree with this. It is a dirty move. I am kinda hypocritical because I do love old films with people getting there head cleaned off but there are just some things that should be reevaluated
It's dumb to say this,
But if a defender touches the quarterback that's a sack. All eligible receivers that catch a ball that's where you spot the ball. There's no more running after the catch. The defenders on the opposite side are allowed to make a play on the ball but they are not allowed to hit any of the receivers. If you're running with the ball if you get touched that's it you're down
NFL is no longer about football, it's only about entertaining the casual fan. If you really love football, watch college 🤷
Alr this is what u do to tackle step 1: pillow step 2: bed step 3: blanket step 4: tuck the person in step 5: read them a bedtime story 👍👍
The thing about these kinds of changes is that they are effectively removing most of the things that helped the game reach the level it is at today. The league is what it is today and generates so much money because of what the game was, not what it has become. So if you're gonna change the game from what is essentially the reason people are willing to drop so much bank, then they need to start lowering the prices and charge for what is being produced today. It's sort of Football. It's kinda like remember the manly actors of yesteryear and how badass they looked in a 3 piece suit on the red carpet? And now "real men" in Hollywood wear dresses, skirts, and purses on the red carpet and weigh 120 lbs soaking wet. It's just not the same
Dude I’m gonna have to start watching hockey or something this shit is ridiculous
The problem with this is the refs CANNOT and WILL NOT call the swivel hip drop tackle fairly and consistently. They cant even call a DPI or facemask right half the time how the hell do we expect them to not screw this up in a cruical moment of a game? While the hip drop tackle is still a legal technique, refs wont know the difference between a REGULAR hip drop tackle and a SWIVEL hip drop tackle.
I didn’t know the “hip drop tackle” had a name. I thought it was just how you tackle a runner from behind.
So now do you tackle from behind by going for the lower legs? Is that likely to injury the knees?
Wearing wool socks to bed will give you the best sleep you've experienced 🎉
I remember in pop Warner football they would teach shoulders square dont lead with your helmet and wrap up, players are just getting lazy with tackling
All this will do is ramp up the number of questionable/controversial, game changing calls and make it impossible to defend.
Oh it's all the way over. This'll be one rule that gets amended 5 weeks in
Changes at a time when rbs are cheaper than wrs 🤔
So what are you supposed to do if someone gets past you but you have the speed to catch them? Basically the only thing you can do is try to do a slide tackle.
R.I.P. NFL Football 1919 - 2024
It's basically soccer minus kicking now.
the hip drop tackle was banned by the National Rugby League in Australia and it took 1 sason to get it out of the game,
NFL and nba are failing due to catering to offense and not balancing it with defense. By limiting defense, the games get so out of control and records are going to be broken more frequently as it’ll be so much easier now. We love seeing good defenses. It’s part of the damn game
NFL is dead to me.
Well, I'm done with the NFL. I mean for nearly a century we've been thought to drop and drive thru a tackle with our hips. It has been the most fundamental way of tackling since football was created nearly 150 years ago. Banning the hip drop tackle is stupid, and complete and utter bullshit.
About to see some surprise retirementa during preseason as soon as the first person gets fined.
Honestly some folks wont be happy until every team needs 150 players a year and there are injuries on every three plays. I guarantee the NFL wants an 18 game schedule and the only way they can do that is to keep making the game safer, and not allowing 300 pound linemen to body-slam the legs of their opponents. I think most videos on this topic are just hyperbole, in no way will this lead to 2000 yard seasons all over the place.
