One of the most underrated and unappreciated musical talents of our lifetime. That voice...the imagination and genius behind the music. Just amazing. I saw her live at a small club back in the mid 90's in Kansas City. Studio quality, live performance. Stunning.
Aimee Mann's "Bachelor No. 2" is greatest rock/pop album since Beatles "Sgt. Pepper"! Great melodies, chord progressions, vocal effects -- a true masterpiece! But all of you are here because you already know that!
Yeah, i dig it out every now and again and it never disappoints!
Agree 100% brilliant album. Deathly and You Do are particularly stand out tracks.
There are plenty of LPs better than Pepper - sorry, it is an extremely overrated LP with a ton of simply dreadful filler in amongst the 3 masterpieces. Try "Forever Changes" (by Love); "Muswell Hillbillies" (Kinks); "Odyssey and Oracle" (Zombies); "No Other" (Gene Clark); Spirit of Eden (Talk Talk); Laughing Stock (Talk Talk); "Bryter Layter" (Nick Drake); "The Queen Is Dead" (Smiths); Rattus Norvegicus (Stranglers); Greetings from L.A. (Tim Buckley) - just a few leagues ahead of Pepper. As for "Bachelor" - very good, indeed, and frequently great, but I personally prefer "Whatever". But, hey, it's Aimee, therefore it's gold.
Possibly her best song. All about her career, fame, pressure to stay thin and pretty, and selling out. Possibly her best song.

She created her career on her terms and I love that she did. I love this song as well as the 1st Til Tuesday albums.

She really is master class talent. I was lucky enough to get a phone interview with her around 1990 for a local music mag my friend was publishing. It was kind of an in between time for her. I think she was still working under the "Til Tuesday" name. It has been great to see her develop over the years and in my opinion just get better and better.

This song is sublime in its layers, in its composition, in its execution. One of my all time favorites from this amazing woman. Listen to this on headphones if you dare. It's on Bachelor #2. You won't be able to listen to it only once.

Amy Lynn Hunt I imagine I got a little side tracked thinkin about all the different times I just wanted to walk away and call it quits. This old video brings up lots and lots of memories. One of my favorite ones she sings goes, "I want you-ooh-ooh, but your a poltergeist." I've sung that one all day before. I can play the one that goes, "Tell me why I feels so bad honey, TVs flat and nothing is funny, I get sad and stuck in a cone of silence." Well I'll see you later.

I was just thinking that! I actually discovered her music after hearing her cover of The Hissing of Summer Lawns, and I've been listening ever since.

I pretty much feel the exact same way. She has always been great but she just seems to get better with time! I hope she keeps up the great work. I was lucky that I had a good friend Turn me on to the later Til Tuesday stuff, not just the first hits and I have followed her every since. A true artist! Glad there are others that get it as well!

David Fleming Hey there David. I am so curious, what do you mean by that phrase london choice of chord crafting. Yes, some of the changes in this song are beautiful, the shift up to the second half of the verses for example, or those subtle alterations in the last verse last couple of bars just before the final chorus. Shivers! :) I also like this video for a personal reason, which is I used to frequent that restaurant Amagi in the video when I first moved to L.A. many years ago. Anyway, who cares, I know. Cheers!
It's the opposite for me, people I know who are Aimee Mann fans are females. The few male fans that I know only like the till' tuesday songs.
I saw her at the Napa Uptown Theatre this week and she was fantastic as she always is when I see her. The sound was amazing, her voice luscious and her backup band excellent. The theatre is beautiful, one of the best places to see an artist in the bay area.
thank you for bringing this vid to us. aimee is a revelation, and this moment she & her filmmaker have created with such a lovely song is a testament to a feeling most of us who have made music our lives have shared and from there recovered. We truly make music because we have the calling,but we pray others will get it, like it, even love it. I love aimee, and thanks again.

Her Bachelor No. 2 cd is like a greatest hits cd. I love every single song on that disc. This is probably my favoraite buit I love them all. She is an amazing talent.

@MyAngelMamaMine It's about her time spent on Geffen (I didn't make the connection at first either but then when you see it in that context the lines take on a different meaning), this was on her first independent release as a solo artist. They tried to sexualise her image etc. She mentioned it as the meaning of the song in interviews and I believe also the press release for the album.
Her lyrics come from a deep place. A true songwriter who knows about life.
