Nice score! First thing I do with a box of unsorted tube pulls is to sort them by visual type identification and separate by function. Much faster than trying to read all the numbers and sort by numbers.
Bob, a little something for your effort. I also collect old ancient radios, and have a 50 model Zenith porthole console, so yes , it does cost dollars into megabucks to purchase these vintage units, so I hope this small token of my appreciation of your channel is of great use.
I am thrilled that you are willing to sell some of your sets - I have seen several in your videos that I would love to have !! I thought it would be rude to ask - or you would never sell. I will definately be inquiring about purchasing a few of them! That Zenith Porthole is sexy - it caught my eye in your last video -
I have 3 Portholes I restored 15 years ago - 16" Zenith, 19" Zenith, and a 16" Raytheon. That 16EP4 picture tube is rare and almost unobtainable. Those portholes do make interesting sets and they display well. I've never seen a Muntz TV but read a lot of interesting stories about Mad Man Muntz in that era. Have to follow your autopsy of that Muntz.
I seem to recall one of the differences between the CTC-12 and later chassis is the later chassis had a modification so that a loss of the HV regulator would raise the horizontal frequency to limit the HV and produce an unwatchable picture. This was an effort to limit X-rays in a failure condition. The normal HV was 25kV and could go to 40-50kV dark picture if the 6bk4 heater would fail. I am thinking the change was around 1964 or 65.
Super cool pickups! I have a Sheldon rebuild in the RCA I’ve been working on forever and it tested all over the place with shorts and off scale high emissions but I did an auto restore with my Sencore and it has a fantastic picture. Filament must have been filthy and crusty. The Muntz said manufactured in Chicago on the faded label! Were they actually made there?
Isn't the 16CP4 the all glass equivalent of a 16AP4? That adapter with the 12SQ7 would have been for replacing a 12Q7GT or 6Q7GT which is a similar tube with a grid cap.
Maybe. This has a steeper deflection angle 16EP4. 16DP4 is the glass equivalent. I believe there is also an all glass 19AP4 replacement but have never seen one.
Philco made tubes and transistors in Lansdale PA. Earlier radio tubes were supplied to Philco by Sylvania especially the octal, loctals and 4, 5, 6 & 7 pin radio tubes. RCA and GE of course made their own. Kenrad was their own company until they were purchased in the late 30s by General Electric. Tungsol supplied tubes to everyone. And depending on supplies GE made nearly all of the compacttron tubes even if they were labeled by RCA, Sylvania & others. Many times in order to offer a complete replacement line, to manufacturers would sell tubes to each other and relabel them. A GE tube would be relabeled RCA but you could always tell The original manufacturer by how the tube type was labeled. You could always tell that sandblasted GE labeling with the dot pattern. Vice versa also applied. If you bought a GE tube and it was marked with an rca style of type number It was probably made by RCA. Many other combinations were done by others.
Shango 066 Works alot with those RCA type chassis like u have. Maybe he might be Interested in it even. i think that might been in a console set at one time. I had ewo of those years ago the big console sets and they both had very similar chassis in them. I sold both those years ago though. had great picture and sound as well. I sold both to a tv shop. both worked but i got a different tv then. now its all just modern sets now. but older sets in my opinion were way better.
Bob, make me a deal on a year or lifetime sub if you're willing to. Been watching you a lot and takes me back to when I was repairing to sell from the early 70s to probably early 90s when it was no longer worth doing. I enjoy watching and reminds me of all the test gear and tubes I have out in my shed still.

Nice
I love seeing the half resistors in a Muntz TV 😂
19:25 That set looks identical to the one used in their 1951 commercials....
Make a solid state substitute out of that 5u4 do🎉n't trash it.
The classic toasted 6BK4. I've had and seen dozens turn dark after only weeks of operation. They really push those tubes to the limit.

If I had enough money I would definitely get myself a porthole set. That is one TV I want in my collection.
This is only the second time in 20 years I've seen any for sale around here.

Not to my knowledge, but it's possible
Was there an elevator in that building? Moving all those sets up to that floor and then moving them back down would suck with stairs.
No, but I sure wish there was

GE had a tube plant in Owensboro, Ky.

Mad man Muntz named his daughter Teevee. I Watched a documentary about him. Did he realy design his minimaist l TV in a hotel room?
My wife thinks I'm a dweeb for watching you unpack of a box of tubes. Am I?
Absolutely not. You'll really love the next video 😁
You don't buy tvs and then ask your viewers to pay for them. VERY WRONG.
Why? Considering that viewers asked me to buy it. It's not like RUclips pays me. With less support, I'll produce less content.
I fail to see a moral dilemma here. Viewers choose of their free will to support or not support Bob's efforts.
Don't watch!
