    I tried extra fine 000 steel wool, it worked good in one dry pass. I stopped at that level cuz I was afraid to damage anything, hehe.🤘🎸😉

    Thank you. I scrolled and watched dozens of videos with all the pseudo-professional egoistic chit chat and unnecessary shit that last like 20min/per video (on time-lapse when the actual work is done), where some dude is making everything complicated starting of the tools needed and waxes and all the shit and made a fucking cathedral size number of a thing that could be shown in under a minute. THIS is how you make a useful tutorial. Definitely subscribing.

    Yes, the best thing to use is steel wool. I use 0000 and it works like a charm and takes about 5 mins total time.

    lol like 10 years ago I went to the craft store and got a circle of 800 grit. Used that ever since dry sanding with no tape, only the eye. improved about 6 guitars with the same finish and use them to this day. party in the front, function in the back!

      @@MacSimusMusic You can always find it in the automotive department. But 3000? I got to 2000 grit and it was almost glossy again so I went back to the 1500, even that feels too much. This was a helpful video, though. Thanks for posting.

    Wet and dry 600 grit paper ' Sand it dry
    is safe for a 1'st timmer.
    I've used 400 Grit wet and dry for the past 40 years ' start out with a fresh piece of paper on a sanding block ' Address the finger board edges 1'st
    This helps eliminate any fret end sprout and
    You can roll over the fret ends at the same time ' After doing that the paper will be worn in enough to do the neck.
    I've found 1000 grit and anything above is too time consuming and is basically just polishing the neck.
    Have done it like that on hundreds and hundreds over the years repairing instruments.

    Don’t think multiple passes need to be done going to a super-fine grit to achieve the desired result. Not to mention, removing more of the original finish than is really necessary. All you need to do is remove the lustre and you’re done - with minimal assault. Just my humble opinion.

    Super fine wet/dry emery paper can be found in a auto supply store in the body repair section.

    I watched 3 videos nobody mentioned the grit size, thanks a lot now I know I can use micro mesh starting with 1500. I just bought a matt guitar a few months ago and played the crap out of that thing, it’s barely playable now because I high polished the whole neck.

    Why do you cover the binding? Wont the laquer on the binding slow you down? Iv seen other luthiers sand the binding long with the neck on some other vids. Im trying to figure out if i shud sand my binding or not

    Should use a sponge above the sandpaper.

    Is it possible to do this without making heat spots?

  • @TheIkaika777
    @TheIkaika777 2 года назад +1

    And then after all is said and done when you start playing the guitar you bring it back to a high gloss shine naturally from your hand.

    Why use the dunlop 65 at the end?
    Does it work as a sealer as well or is it just to clean up the neck?

    • @GStudiosStopmotion
      @GStudiosStopmotion 2 года назад

      just cleans it. maybe a little protectant but thatll get wiped off by your hands very fast as you play

    • @TheIkaika777
      @TheIkaika777 2 года назад

      It’s not a permanent solution anyway, the more you play the guitar the more you’ll bring back the high gloss naturally from your hand.

    will the neck be exposed to moisture?

    • @PERPowns
      @PERPowns 2 года назад

      You're not sanding the finish off the neck, simply scratching the surface of the finish. If done correctly (i.e. not sanded through the finish and paint, exposing bare wood) there will be no difference in the top coat's ability to protect against moisture.

    Thanks for the video. I found that the blue painters tape won’t even stick to the neck of my guitar

    • @MacSimusMusic
      @MacSimusMusic  3 года назад

      hi Adam. There are definately different levels of quality with blue tape- the generic stuff can be absolute garbage that won't stick to anything. I typically use the Scotch Ultra Sharp Lines. I have also heard good things about Frogtape.

    • @MacSimusMusic
      @MacSimusMusic  3 года назад +2

      probably a couple of options. first, some polishing compound and a and a buffing wheel. Another option would be to spray the neck with a coat or two of gloss polyurethane.
