Thought Years ago that Granstein would be nice place to have apartment before Ötztaler. But when arrived and noted that uphill.. D’oh! After finishing Ötztaler knew that uphill was waiting to get just back inside.. Year 2014.. one of the coldest, if not the coldest and wettiest, ones.. I was soo broken after race that no pedaling was possible anymore at Granstein. x/ Going up to those Gletschers is an experience! Even a smallest head wind on those looooong uphill straights gives You another punishment added to that sheer ascent. No where to hide... just take Your punishment! Great training for Your body, but also to Your head. Perfect mind training for Timmelsjoch at the end of Ötztaler..
Yes, Granstein wasn't long, but a bit steep. So after the Ötztaler it is really painful and exhausting to climb that as well. So did you walk up there then? The Rettenbachferner glacier is always hard work, such a nice scenery, but also very exhausting. But hey, we love mountains, so don't let us complain ;)
@@Frankenpedaleur Had to walk.. crawl.. up. x/ Yep, sufferfest! That is The Thing! Feeling ”this will not happen.. no way! Impossible!” And after hour or two.. or three You’ll be up there! Winning Yourself. :) It took Years to learn enjoying descenting also.. shutting brains off from feeling danger when speed gets 60.. 70.. 80.. 90.. (96km/h my record. So scary!) Remember first time at Alps over decade ago when I didn’t cycle, but had knees working and run. Had a mountain bike at Stubaital, Neustift and went to uphill... I thought I will die after 200m vertical. My heart was pounding out of chest and had to call to my son (who was at apartment) that this might be a bit longer trip for me. Had to have half an hour pause to be able to continue! Did finally go up to lift station, but first lesson was learned; suffering on saddle is totally different than on sneakers.. second lesson came coming down on gravel and lifting hand for ”hello”; crash boom bang! Had those scars around five Years to remind that lesson.. ;) I love those mountains. Would like to move Austria if possible. Now will miss even Summer holiday there and that makes so sad... these videos are douple edged sword; makes happy and sad same time.
