Why British Paras are BEST: Look how LOW they Jump!

- WOW.
If you have not military static-line parachute jumped, you will probably not see the significance of this video of British Parachute Regiment Paras jumping UNDER 500 FEET in war practice. THE ENTIRE FORCE IS ON THE GROUND IN UNDER 30 SECONDS.
Re-read that if you didn't get it the first time.
www.combatreform.com/airdropbe...
The entire C-130 planeload of Paras has each one exiting and landing on the ground in under 30 seconds. There is little if any dispersion due to wind; the only separation is what is created at the time of exit. 4-6 seconds of freefall out the side jump door followed by the pack tray opening and the canopy deploying shows 150 feet of altitude loss; leaving just 350 feet at 15 feet-per-second leaves only 23 seconds to lower rucksack and prepare-to-land!
Here's some stills from the video proving this extreme low altitude mass tactical parachute jump:
www.combatreform.com/britishLL...
www.combatreform.com/britishLL...
www.combatreform.com/britishLL...
British Irvin 5200 UFO-shaped parachutes can be jumped as low as 250 feet!
www.combatreform.com/llparachu...
British Paras war practice @ 500 feet as shown in this video which is (wanker) F-ing amazing! American parachutes cannot be safely jumped this low:
www.combatreform.com/parachute...
When you jump this low you don't have the luxury of a bad exit so the British Paras have their door exit technique more precise than our any-foot-you-like, face 90 degrees to the door crap;
• Bad Jump TRAINING = Ba...
see other Brit Para jump video:
• British Paras Jump Low...
Also notice RAF C-130s have in-flight refuel capabilities for long-range missions while most "vanilla" American C-130H/Js can only fly on the fuel they carry at take-off.
My constructive criticism is the parachutes should be a LIGHT GRAY color to blend in with daylight skies
www.combatreform.com/camie.htm
because DAY JUMPS are needed and are going to happen in 24-hour, around-the-clock war, and the Paras should drop/jump folding mountain bikes
ruclips.net/user/my_playlists?p...
and light tracked tanks/APCs out the rear ramp to provide light mech mobility and firepower on the ground.

Amphibious + Airborne = Royal Marines?
www.geocities.com/airbornemuse...
An amphibious force needs the ability to parachute in not just Recce units--but blocking forces company-sized and larger by high-speed fixed-wing aircraft. The act of airlanding ANY aircraft is very un-tactically sound; if air defenses get too sophisticated then NO COVERING FORCE LANDS and if that happens, it'd be fatal to land from the sea because there'd be no WW2-style Airborne screen to stop enemy forces from converging on the amphibious forces from hide positions that were used to evade prep fires by naval guns, air strikes etc. Gallipoli/Dieppe all over again etc.
The New British CVF carriers need E-2C Hawkeye AEW fixed-wing STOBAR aircraft; C-2 Greyhound cargo variants should be used to drop embarked 1st Para Regiment and/or RM Para Forces.

I was lucky enough to do a joint US/UK training jump a couple years ago...You guys we're truly impressive. God Bless from the 82nd
wow been about 25 years since i last jumped and it just seemed like yesterday. still know the drill. and cant forget my first jump from the balloon.spotted a herc on sunday it was miles away just knew it was a herc and when it got closer to landing i got near it. brought a tear to my eyes.miss the paras.
Every Man A Emperor
Utrinque Paratus
Once a Para always a Para the older The Para the Harder the man be proud you got to be a Para when being a Para meant you where the bees knees were still top Reg but I think we’ve got more and more complacent less humble but at the same time have less things to be arrogant about
I last jumped 1999 . Watching these vids makes me smile, I can actually smell it lol
😢Agree - did mine early 70’s ,2 balloon jumps and 5 exits from Andover Weston on the Green to get wings . Hercs from then on ,can sill recall smell of kerosene and view once canopy developed. Did presentation of new colours at Rushmor Arena 1974 and did balloons and drill an inter company milling and my company ha6 “volunteers “ against 7 from other 4 companies and I went first knocking my opponent out earning me the right to fight from HQ company who was the sparring partner for Sgt Richard Dunn of HQ company who fought and lost to Mohammad Ali . Dunn scored it a draw and was chared by my company as hero and that’S my link to Ali .
Ramsey D company 4 Para
Wish there was some video record and when next presentation 50 years from 1974
my last jump was in 1971 from a C119..i was in the Folgore Regiment
It was the toughest job in the world, done with the best you will find. Spent 12 years in there, loved it.
Watching these clips gives me a rush
I jumped from a height of 6ft back in 82 Without a parachute, I landed on a stone and twisted my ankle ending my days as a world class ballet dancer. Good old days
Devils in baggy pants, great clip , My grandfather was a para killed in tunisia 9th march 1943. .. no 6978689 .
Your still making us proud .
Respect to your grandfather my dad was in 4 para 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
R.I.P. brothers forever, sadly missed never forgotten.
In 1964 a bunch of us gunners was attached to the Parachute Regiment in Aden, now Yemen. I was more afraid of the Paras than I was of the Arabs! Thank god they were on our side.
I am ex 2 Para and it is good to see old values being carried on....WHOA MOHAMMED
In the British Army.. applied for para training or regimental transfer to the para’s....refused.years later doing para jumps for charity were the thing. I was asked to do a jump for some cause. medical required and past....two weeks later I am at 2500 feet above Grange Over Sands ( near the Lake District UK) at an ex wartime airfield base para club. It’s not so much a jump as foot Hopping dance to slide out of a Cessna 182 door to get the left foot on the wheel and hangon to the wing strut ...look at the jump master for the signal to go! I eventually looked to see him going frantic and no doubt effing at me go some tune. I let go and was amazed to see the Cessna suddenly go up fast and vertical.
Lines in a twist...I spin around the opposite way and get them right....look down Fantastic ..such a great feeling hanging g in mid air and safe! I look for the landing spot ....but had taken too long to jump....I was heading for the caravan site....which had a curtain of tall conifer trees to hide it. All this time later, I can still see the look of horror on and oldish couple dat having a meal . I had worked on caravans and knew the internal structure..and the aluminium sheets that clad it...I yanked the right side risers and veered to away from the caravan....Only to hit the trees.
I was able to walk away. A week later with plans to train for free fall..I was back again...held all day for winds, finally got in the air as it was going dark...I get out quick. Let go and turn to find the landing spot .....I use the risers to steer....brilliant, but shit, I am heading for the concrete runway....I am low, but yank the risers to move from the runway....and pendulum...right on the down swing I hit the wet grass a yard from the runway....I heard a loud crack and felt a big pain in my ankle. I tried to stand ...then I moved my leg..but my foot stayed where it was......months in plaster...metal pin to hold my ankle bone in place...busted fib and gib. My whole para career ..two bad jumps... and a lifelong regret no free fall!
I spent 10 years in the US Army, and we used to jump at around 580 ft. 800 from time too time. The Paras are a tough but of Troopers.. Airborne!
Excellent video. Reminds me of a Carribean vacation I took once. Small island nation called Grenada. We were under 500ft for that.
Fucking makes me proud to be British.
Canadian Paras are the best hell we don't even use chutes might be why theres less and less every year
About 150ft before your 'chute deploys, leaving you 350ft to sort any probs, drop your kit & prepare for landing. Tactic was considered at one point during Falklands War I beleive.
Impressive jump. I'm currently serving in the Australian Army in 3RAR so it takes a lot for some Poms to impress me, especially just after you bastards won the Ashes!
The low level parachute was design to be jumped at 250ft
this meant no reserve parachute
we did trials on this in 1989/90/91/92 the trials proved successful
it was trialed again in The USA in 1992 and again was successful
in all over 1000 trials were conducted with 1 failure
the LLP or ( Cupcake as it was nicknamed ) is far superior to the old PX4 and the American equivalent
both in rate of decent and stability
The only Failure that did occur was what you call an Inversion this is where the parachute turns inside out and even then the rate of decent was slow and stable
the person jumping this parachute deployed his PR7 reserve his decent rate was slower than everyone else as he had 2 fully inflated parachutes on his decent
The trials were conducted in The USA at El Centro the Parachute Regiment and other Test jumpers some military others non military
The LLP was jumped live 5 time's at 250ft with an all up weight of 350lb the Jumper was non military
it was recommended that this low level only be done in extreme circumstances and where a normal jump height was not deemed safe enough
I also did trials with the LLP in the late 90's from 250ft with full kit........we pretty much jumped out with hands on our hooks ready to drop the kit because if you didn't release them as soon as you were out and checked canopy there just wasn't time and everyone was shitting themselves about landing with their 100lbs container.
With the older MC-1_1 with the fence, we did 450 to 500.
I know nothing about military stuff but that looked quite stunning and a little trippy. Those parachutes were like flat mushrooms...lol. Love our soldiers much:)
Rhodesian Light Infantry routinely jumped between 200-300 ft, I'd guess that makes them better than British Para's...
if something goes wrong, you dont cut away, you deploy your reserve and it deploys alongside the main..
It does not matter how high or low you jump it is the last inch that matters. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. No sarcasm intended .
You got that right, and like aircraft crashes, it's a good landing if you can walk away.
Combat jumps tend to be that low in any para unit. You dont always do combat jumps or night jumps or water jumps though.
My late father used to be in the Paras 6th airborne RWF and if I recall said he jumped from 500 feet with one chute only as the Americans had a spare chute when they jumped in the war, world war 2 that is
ive also applied, i got my interview on wednesday, dont suppose you could give me any pointers could ya mate ? would appreciate it if ya could
We did 650 ft day and 800 ft night in the 70`s.... 15 para.
Fucking sucks if this was a night jump because by the time from the opening shock and your chute deploys and look to the horizon you have almost 15 seconds before you hit the ground. If you carry the machinegun as i did this is a few seconds faster than the guys who are riflemen.Anti-armor guys, medics, and mortars jump with a bit more than me,Once you land if you dont get hurt then the fun begins with a 25 mile march or 2 and a half weeks of walking up fucking mountains and hills with rain, heat, and cold.Day after day and night after night with 1 to 2 hours of sleep in the jungle, swamp, woods, and fucking snow. You will suffer in silence as you keep going until the day you go into combat. Then terror comes into reality as seconds and minutes become a life time as you move, shoot, and avoid getting wounded or killed.Sweat and tears become one as you dont realize whats happening to you at that moment.Staying alive and making sure your friends are alright and them doing the same for you.Its kind of fucked up life as a Paratrooper or an Infantryman.Only a man who have experienced this kind of fear and over come it can tell you that this will never go away because of memories and dreams. It will play out a million times over your life time as long as you live.Sometimes i ask myself why i did not go to college like my mother said after high school not the Army?Fuck it!We make choices in life which has rewards and consequences. All different for all of us but we make the negative into positive and make us stronger to face the future. What does not kill you makes you stronger!
Fucking impressive jump. First man out is almost on the ground by the time the last man exits. Your point is well made.
@sirkieranis its a static line jump, notice how the chutes open as they jump out, reserve chutes aren't needed.
Well done
There was trials done at 450 feet and belowe in the 70s a exercise in turkey was done at 450 feet
That's not low, we went in at 300 ft! and that was out of a Hastings...
Wow. That's amazing!
Thats right c130 is a yank plane. And probably the best still for what it does. My father was in the British army back i the 70's in the air despatch. I, also was in the British army and flew in this beast many times including a STOL on a desert strip. Great plane (but lacking in passenger luxury lol)
Outstanding!
nice video... 500 feet is very low and it takes a lot of skill.. But if ur chute didnt open right due to a bad exit, which often happens, there is very little time to deal with it
I jumped out of a C-172 at 800 ft. Chute didn't open until 600 ft.
good job!
First class regiment!
@xXStupidHurtsXx I agree 100% very, very impressive with them when i was deployed. 500 feet is ridiculous, dropping that many so fast is just nuts, and quite a sight to see. I doubt they would let regular Airborne do that. Wouldn't doubt an SFG doing something of the sort. But 4-5 people from a chinook compared to 15+ jumping a 130 is a alarming difference.
Dropping at low heights is for a specific reason. On D Day in Normandy, they dropped so low that the thuds could be heard as the bodies hit the ground before the chutes opened. There are many foolish circumstances you can get caught up in with static line jumps. A very windy day dropping at 1250 feet is only one.
Respect !!! come home safe lads and lasses ..
good luck mate... its 20% fitness, 80% mental. if u want it, you can do it.
our hercs are also updated aswel.
army rangers have been jumping at 500 ft for along time
500 feet? Russian soldiers jumped from 80 meters (240 feet) more than 25 years ago. It took place at Tököl Airbase, Hungary. An old parajumper told me who was a witness.
yes JakFitton, at airborne school, we jumped at 1250 ft, when we invaded afghanistan we jumped at 750.
ghurkas use pillow cases!! reason they land faster so they can fight
There are more lower jumps, but its a good vid of a static jump.
Soon to be my regiment after the damn CIC para gets some spaces
Para style training😊
Well, I'm sure all the paratrooper units have "combat jumps". The D/Z is wide, not too much wind, therefore there is only a little risk, you have only an instant to deploy your reserve.
little risk? its the most dangerous insertion.....
Irving has made a new chute, you can exit the aircraft at 200 ft, thats low
Irvin LLP: www.combatreform.org/T-21.htm
www.combatreform.org/llparachute.htm
i jump this height. except i dont release my ruck at 200 ft...
Wouldnt they take you?
im a US combat vet who served alongside of some of britatin's best.i assure you we are every bit as good and on par with our british counter parts.i have great respect for our brit mate's but guess what..they also had great respect for us!as far as the vid,it's awesome!when rangers jump on airfields its usually at 500.they did it in panama and afghanistan in the early days of the war.
RLTW! A co. 2-75 IN. 02-90
YOU ARE FORGETTING THE CANADIAN AIRBOURNE REGIMENT WHICH JUST AS CAPABLE AS THE RANGERS.. 3 PPCLI ARE RT UP THERE AS WELL.. JTF2, BETTER THAN SEALS..
No way they are that low. More like 800 Ft.

Holy crap! Where were those guys on June 6, 1944?!
Mark Prazak British airborne landed around Merville battery on D Day.
This, I can believe.
Warning. Do not be where they are in anger.
In Crete 1941, the Germans were diving out at 300 ft
ok im glad americans are our allie and if someone declared war on america we would be the first to help but dont try and say your army is elite in anyway your deltas and seals are elite but our british SAS instructors train them.
jabba hutt Um, that was funny? Brits and Americans compliment each other nicely. In my former life I was trained by US SEALs, SF, Rangers, Kiwi SAS, Brit SAS and lots of US SWAT folks. Americans plan and prep better, Brits and the like tend to yell "Off we go!" within a few minutes of hearing of a problem. This results in Americans sometimes losing opportunities and Brits getting hopelessly in the shit. It's actually the Russian airborne folks who appear to be attempting a comedy stunt rather than an actual mission.
Insane! ^^
they have good parachutes..
but we have time to pull the reserve when we jump
It's called a "Combat Blast".
200 feet in battle!
No bad!
I agree about the Airborne, seeing as they train a lot longer to perfect their techniques. Also, they some good combat experience (Look at 2 Paras experience at FOB Gibraltar), plus they have experience bayonet charging Argentinian MG nests amongst other things.
Definitely don't agree about Special forces though. All our special forces are probably on Par, and if anything, British SAS and SBS are better.
Red Devils are the paras display team.
i dont know what to join...the para or marines?...what do you guys think?
if low altitude jumping makes you the best I guess all the us and uk cut lunch commandos on here should have look over on Russian Low Altitude Parachuting .....8-10 seconds under canopy not 20
Why do they jump so low
Evade radar detection; assemble faster on the ground...
82ND Combat jumps are 600 agl no reserve and safeties jump.
Safeties DID NOT JUMP when I was there. Today's FM also stipulates safeties DO NOT jump. Let's SOLVE THE PROBLEM and negate the need for safeties hauling in d-bags and static lines by drogue chutes: www.combatreform.org/T-21.htm
Old joke from the 82nd Airborne:
We jumped really low today.
How low?
We jumped so low...that when I exited the aircraft...I had to run a hundred meters to get an opening shock!
lol
jumping out of that plane that low must be the scariest thing by itself but being under fire aswell jesus respect to the paras (and Royal Marines)for doing awsom job in afgan and iraq.
800' was the standard for us...... we did several at 600 - but boy, you better jettison your equipment pretty quick or you could get a free ride in an ambulance !
rather you than me lads.
looks like frog hill to me but been out 5 years so i could be wrong... AIRBORNE ALWAYS
Look at those canopies, look like flat pancakes.
L.A.L.O.
Fuckin' badass.
paras own usmc
British Paras 2nd to none.
German Para troops on Crete jumped so low some broke their legs due to ground undulation
Well that defeats the purpose then Stupid 😂
We are very good... But we are also very small.
The thing is with airborn units british or american is they've conquered fear ... especially the paras coz of milling and the trainazium and stuff .. marines are fitter and physically more robust... but they havn't conquered fear.
What rubbish! P Company is a far harder physical test than CTC! Of course the biggest test of fitness was in the Falklands where 3 Para tabbed the full width of East Falkland CARRYING their gear whilst watching the Marines put their gear in their vehicles. Then took Mount Longdon before watching 2 Para tab into Port Stanley before any Marine was anywhere close!
As ex 2 para I ask why practice jumping at low heights. In war time no problem jump low but why risk men's lives in training. I remember 6 men dying before the height went back up tp 800feet. Officer should speak up for pay, equipment and conditions. but Ruperts do not give a fuck about the men!
Truthmedia Agree completely
I have to correct you here the British Paras jump from 1000ft and operational jumps are from 600ft but never 500ft i have never jumped from 500ft or even heard of anyone jumping that low
It's night time jumps that are 1000 feet with daytime drops normally at 800 feet. I've jumped from about 500 feet into Turkey back in the 70's. A comment from a 'guest' US Para who was also dropping No 1 from that height on a Brit C130 was, "See the grass? I can f.....g smell it!! Your comment leads me to believe that you've not jumped with Brit airborne forces.
also gets em on the ground quicker
would suck to have a total failure...no reason to even take a reserve on that jump
Not sure how I got here, but that isn't low. We used to do jump at 400-500. Didn't carry reserves. Chute would barely fully deploy before hitting the ground. You put a lot of trust in equipment and pilot.
British Paras have reliable chutes to jump at 250 feet AGL...that's the point: NOE under the radar...
@@dynmicpara reliable vs repeatable with no lawn darts. You can jump low, but the failure increases every foot. Would love to know any modern NOP mission under 250. In my opinion only two reason to do it,.
No skill to it...@ the end of your four-thousand count if you feel no opening shock, immediately activate your reserve. And yes 500 feet AGL is low.
i jump 75 meters...i dont know in feet...+ - 250 feet
The lowest they dropped us was 2.500 ft we jumped out of a Dakota also known as the goonie bird.❤❤😅😅😅
We did 500 all the time in the 82nd, but yes it is quite low. Once I left the infantry, most of my jumps were daytime and usually 1200 AGL. I was like "it takes me too fucking long to get down"
I saw over a million parachutes open on Fort Bragg and never saw one drop from less than 1200 feet. (Rigger) 1968 they had 180,000 troops on Fort Bragg.
You lying bitch!
B Co.
3/75
John Tate
850 AGL is standard and in the ASOP. no lower and rarely higher for most training jumps. Combat conditions is 450 AGL give or take depending on chute.
im ex para, and your wrong about the irish. whilst I used to be regiment drunk, I have also seen the other side of Ireland. they want independence, and quite rightly so. the "british empire" is long gone, we should NOT own islands outside our own, and neither should anyone else. some good soldiers died in Ireland and for what? to be sold out by politicians in the end anyway. maybe we should spend our money on making our forces even better and better equipt for their tasks. rather than waste it fighting other peoples battles.
This is a 250ft jump
why jump so low?
Faster deployment???
Paras are designed to shock the enemy. Therefore, jumping at a lower altitude allows them to gain more of an element of surprise; Allowing them to become way more effective in combat. Jumping from a higher altitude, allows the enemy to react more, thus decreasing their overall effectiveness in combat, as it gives the enemy more time to react to them!
It's a tactical drop - in the air the minimum and can't be shot out (much) and minimal dispersion (land concentrated ready to re-org)..
"British Paras practice at 500...American parachutes cannot be safely jumped this low" US Army Rangers jump into Grenada at 500 feet during Operation Urgent Fury
Brandon Michaels Actually the US MC1-1B parachute, which has been retired since it's service for decades, was combat dropped at 400 feet, with a sight aircraft speed increase. Paratroops are not judged by how they get to the battle, but by what they do once there.
VDV is the best
the dream team would be america's ground attack aircraft, Britians soldiers, Russia's defense, all nations tanks due to a huge difference in certain scenarios, not sure about ships feel free to tell me, and all nations working to make missiles with high maneuverability, long range, and pin point tracking aswell as all nations aircraft due to some working better in different scenario's aswell
И чё??? Я с такой высоты ещё в родном аэроклубе прыгал,задолго до службы в армии. Мне лет 16 тогда было.
yeah but thers a much higher chance you will survive a freefall from that height.
Looks about the same height we jump in the 82nd. Your parachutes are better though.
