I agree 100% about Mitch's voice in the lower registers which is wonderful as well. I can confidently recommend "Amazing Grace" where you can hear Mitch's strong voice in the lower registers as well as each member of band individually.
Thank you for showing both versions! PLEASE keep doing this! It's a great way to show appreciation for the original artist's version as well as the cover. It's also useful for the reactor when you're not familiar with the original--it gives you some context for evaluating the cover. PTX, through their covers, have led me to dozens of singers that I might never have listened to otherwise. Add me to the those who agree about Mitch's lower register! The high notes are spectacular but the low ones can tear your heart out. And finally. . . of course you can ramble! That's what we're here for! Watching reaction videos is like having friends all over the world sharing the love for talking about the music we love.
I have seen this so many times and this is the first time I realized Kevin was responsible for one of the higher tone embellishments to the melody. His falsetto has such a beautiful texture that adds something different. Considering who else is in the band (*cough* Mitch *cough* Kirstie), it says a lot that they rely on him to add his unique timbre in that range. The thing is, all of them can sing high. Scott and Matt have beautiful falsetto voices as well, and they both demonstrate that on various arrangements, too. This is something that impresses me so much about Pentatonix - well, 2 things, really: First, how is it possible that they have all achieved such stupendous ranges? Are they the most flexible group on Earth, or what? and Second, there is no ego, no "that's a high note it should go to Mitch or Kirstie," instead they give each part to whomever serves the music best. Since they know one another's capabilities so well, they probably don't even discuss it much, just, one of them says, "we need a high run, here, I think Kevin should do it," and the four others know that's best and just nod. And speaking of ranges, Mitch's whole range is incredible! I was listening to their "Stay x The Middle mashup for PBS, yesterday, and then this, today, and they are great examples of the breadth of beauty in his voice at every range.
LOVE the original!! Billie and her brother, Finneas, who wrote and produced this song have both exhibited so much talent at a very young age. Billie was 16 when she recorder this. Finneas was 20. Crazy good! Needless to say, I was SOOO excited when PTX covered this. They always have a way of highlighting certain harmonies that may have otherwise been overlooked in the original. BOTH did fanfrickingtastic!! ❤
I kind of have a love/hate relationship with this kind of comparison reaction. I always seem to find something in the original that I never noticed before, and really like. And then I find stuff in the PTX arrangement that is new, and I really like that! So I don't usually try to pick a "best" one, just admire both of them for what they are.
Mitch is perfect for covering Billie Eilish...they both have similar vocal capabilities. I'm sure you've seen Billie's Your Power covered by Mitch in a solo. His voice can be uncannily like hers, especially in the high range.
To be fair, they are five voices and Billie has only one. I really like Matt’s part too and how the others sound like angels, but not in a showy way to let him shine.
I have a difficulty with PTX's cover of Billie Eilish's songs. What you say about their version is true and musically I prefer listening to it but the feeling from the lyrics is cold and desolate which is better represented by the original even though it's less comfortable to listen to. But heartache is uncomfortable. Mitch's version of Your Power doesn't suffer from this because it carries over the pain of the story which is easier with just one voice and a sparse arrangement, especially when it's Mitch's voice.
They took a fantastic song and some how made it just a bit better. Also I love their visuals a lot more, I do not care for the imagery of billie’s video.
If you want to hear more of Mitch's lower register, check out their upgrade of Take On Me. Well, really it's his full range. It's audio only, but you hear him go down into Baritone range all the way up into the rafters in about 10 seconds 😂
Kudos to Billie Eilish for creating an amazing song. Her performance was mesmerizing. having said that, PTX definitely performed an upgrade, with their spot-on vocals and unparalleled harmonies. I prefer the lead voices of both Mitch and Kirstie to Billie's, and Matt, Scott, and Kevin add so much more to this song, making it one of the best recent PTX efforts
I liked that you played the original first. It seemed to me like you were hoping / expecting Pentatonix to drop a beat on their version and were a bit disappointed. But this is my favorite type of PTX arrangement, when they drop the vocal percussion and go to 5-part harmonies.
It is nice to see sometimes an solid real man who also feels like it. Calm personality often offers to others needed stability. I'm glad I found your channel Mr Salvo!
It’s so great that I still get to watch you discover new PTX music, you are showing great restraint in not plowing right through everything out there - as I did. I had never seen the Billie Eilish video, so thanks for that. I will always vote for a Pentatonix version, though. Peace …
Pentatonix is a great group, they nail all their performances, I’ve heard the song from Billie but never seen the video, she and her brother are very talented
Total different beasts, so not very fond of comparing. Personally prefer Ptx, but I see the original for what it is. It succeeds with what it wants to do. It's rawer, less easily digestible, and I'm pretty sure that's very much on purpose from the little I know about Billie. They are two different things, with different goals. So for different people or different times.
Thanks for playing BE's original. I've been meaning to check it out to compare. I have to say . . . Im not a big BE fan. I think she and her brother should stick to writing and have performers like PTX record them. PTX definitely does an UPGRADE here.
@@judithcure2255 wtf are you talking about? disparage? ? ? I expressed my opinion in the comments section of a F'ing RUclips post. It's obvious to a rational human that due to the huge diversity in music - - everyone does not like every performer or every type of music. Saying " I am not a big fan" is far from 'disparaging". Actually the original has over 80 vocal tracks, all Billie's or Finneas's vocals at different registers. Yet the final composition doesn't sound fuller or in your face is because the lyrics are an internal dialogue. They come from deep inside her and we just hear it muffled from the outside. Covering this song as a loud and brash a cappella street performance worthy of a talent show on TV defeats the entire aesthetic.
I mean, if you're gonna do a cover, a good one is not gonna do the same aesthetic or sound. That defeats the purpose of a cover. And Pentatonix version is not loud. You don't have to like them or their music but calling them street performers is a bit.. bizarre. I don't lean towards Billies style of music but she's clearly exceptionally good at what she does. I found it easier listening to the words with Pentatonix version for example. While the original (even not taking in the video) is more fragile and angsty. To me, hers sounds like someone in the middle of the chaos and theirs in that empty, almost defeated "aftermath" before it can start to get better. Two different angles on the same concept.
I’m a big fan of PTX but I love Billie so much I kind of can’t stand people covering her music. Possible exception is Mitch’s version of Your Power. I feel like other artists try playing with the softer tone but no one can even come close so it just comes across as an inferior knock off. I’ve lost respect for several celebrity musicians who have tried to imitate Billie. Stop chasing something that isn’t you! Adele similarly can’t be matched. As a singer myself, I understand the inclination, but maybe do that on your own in private and don’t sully your own style by chasing a trend😆
I don’t know which is worse Billie or PTX………both are so unoriginal and been there done that groups. I light up on that rare occasion when it’s not groups you already have reacted too a million times. Variety is the spice of life and the food has been rather bland and predictable.

This is one of their recordings during the pandemic where they recorded independently in their home studios and then it was put together.
It’s prettu much a really professional virtual choir, which makes it very impressive that they got the harmonies and the water-falling so right.

I love Mitch;s vpice no matter the register he sings in because he siings so clearly and with so much emotion.
I agree with you about that tone of Mitch's voice. It is very soothing and soulful.

💯 agree on Mitch’s lower register. It’s sooo good. I definitely prefer the PTX version. It just has more feeling for me
Any time they sing in 5 part harmony I'm there for it! It is just beautiful. And yes, I agree that Mitch's lower range is amazing.
YES . . . 1st time I really noticed Mitch's lower range was on Amazing Grace where he belted in the lower range.
Ptx version is a much fuller, warmer sound. Matt‘s voice is so pleasing to listen to.
To be fair, they are five voices and Billie has only one. I really like Matt’s part too and how the others sound like angels, but not in a showy way to let him shine.

Hi Salvo another great reaction
Always love PTX harmonies....
Pentatonix is a great group, they nail all their performances, I’ve heard the song from Billie but never seen the video, she and her brother are very talented
Pentatonix killed it..better than the original..
Gorgeousness from ptx
I love PTX’s version. I think Scott is actually tearing up on his last part.😢
I appreciate Billie’s voice, but PTX’s version is an upgrade for me. Mitch’s low register just melts me.
Agree on Eilish video, had to turn my phone to enjoy.
This song spans three octaves and is very difficult for the average singer to handle.
2 very sweet versions, I agree.
You should listen/react to more Billie!
She looks like the girl from The Ring.
I'd suggest "Happy Now"
What's with this girl making a Pentatonix song weird!? 😰
Love when you do a little sing-a-long! 👍🏻💞

I had heard the Billie version but had not seen the video. That was kinda creepy. If you listen to the lyrics you know it could get that way.
