That threw me a bit to , but I'm guessing that it had a bit of a snap together thing going on at the corners ???? AND that plywood did look like it is a special/specific application panel ??🤔🤔🤔
For the people asking, you are looking at around $50K for the elevator labor and equipment/material. The shaftway is separate and built by your carpenters, that could be $10-25K depending on the situation, it's cheaper in new construction than to fit into an existing house. The electric would be $2-4K depending on distances from the panel. Then you have local codes such as fire/smoke alarm connections, telephone in the cab, etc.
Who have a friend who is a builder who has clients who want to age in place. He started putting a set of stacked closets in every house he builds. Now. Too. He's done it enough that he knows how to position it so that it has mechanical room access and it's easy to pull power to. Basically they can cut out a piece of floor, build the rails, change the doors out and have an elevator in a day or so
One thing that I think was part of this installation that wasn't mentioned is when they said it was/is a 220v , 30 amp cicuit they didn't say anything about it being a 3 phase circuit ; but that's what it looked like to me. It may not be an absolutely necessary feature (maybe they make equipment for both single phase and 3 phase ???) but it definitely makes a difference in the level of performance that you get out of motor (etc) that you are powering
in many areas a full (heavy duty) disconnect must also cut the neutral. This two pole (that means single phase) unit had space for a 3 blade switch but I didn't see another lug on the bottom. I did see a neutral bar on the side.
This video is gonna be sooooooo helpful for all of us with our personal elevator installation. This is so relatable and useful for the majority of us DIYers.
@@Navy1977 I don’t know. I was expecting to see a more finished elevator. It was just a general overview of elevator electrical. I should be happy, but oh, well. I’ll just have to wait until TOH puts out an “Elevator Install” video. 😊
I’m surprised that per Massachusetts code that child molesters and rapists from other countries weren’t consulted to build this elevator per Maura Healey and Michelle Wu.
Elevator guy has been on before: just his part is $50k, but he doesn’t build the shaft-way or the equipment room, so you have to hire a different contractor for that.
@@2nickles647 an elevator shaft is the space the car rides in, not the mechanicals that make it work. They are usually built to meet fire code so separate framing and double-x sheetrock. (2 hour burn rating)
This new rich person's house, brought to you by PBS, funded only with taxpayer dollars and plebs like you.... I'm sure glad that TOH helped those struggling millionaires add more luxuries to their mansion.
I wasn't expecting the cab to be primarily 3 sheets of 3/4 plywood just edge screwed together without glue.
Does anyone remember when TOH helped ordinary folks make necessary repairs instead of luxury upgrades for the rich?
I know, right? An elevator cab in the UK is metal frame and composite or metal panelling, all purpose made.

@@stevekluesner4430 It doesn't need to be any stronger. The cart is only to prevent you from touching the walls or components of the shaft.

Great video!
Jonathan, the elevator guy was very well spoken. Could be a regular if they did more elevators on the show.

Escape door??
No shunt trip?
that gotta be expensive
if it means quality of life and aging in place then its worth every penny

That was kinda disappointing, actually.

I remember when ToH was more homeowner friendly and not catering to the wealthy.
This whole series is about outfitting a house to support a handicapped person in a wheelchair. Have a little empathy.
Just guessing……20-30k
Probably 40-50k
