Fred Molina one piece of history doesn't determine a flags meaning. Is the American flag racist because America Raped and slaughtered Native Americans? No? Mayor Bob Buckhorn is not a Tampa (let alone Florida) native; he is an outsider transplant (just like many others who protest this flag in our Southern State) from Illinois, he has no southern heritage whatsoever; of course you will get uneducated, uninformed rhetoric from a leftist democrat like Buckhorn. This flag represents the southern heritage of the southern states, especially the southernmost state of FLORIDA. If you are not from Florida (and/or if you are thinking about moving here), better learn to respect the culture and pride of this southern state. 1st Amendment rights are not for one side only - they are for EVERYBODY, whether you consider it hateful, evil or not! That flag near the interstate junction is not going anywhere and if anything, has more support than ever before, learn to get used to it.

God bless you Sir, I've been battling with individuals on other videos about this, and how important state's rights are. I'm all for the expulsion of non-Florida natives (even though I'm aware it won't happen) from our state. They're parasites, and it's not just about the Confederate flag. They literally act high and mighty and disrespect the natives.

If you're not born and raised in Florida, or at least somewhere South of the Mason-Dixon Line, and have at least a modicum of traditional Southern ideals, then you have no business and should not be eligible to hold any public office on the state, county, or city/town level! Nor should any teacher in any schools in Florida or anywhere in Dixie be from elsewhere, period!

That flag is preserved at a historical Confederate Memorial Park. It was rightfully displayed up there by the SCV. It's not going anywhere.

I know this video is old, but if it's on public property, I would agree with the protestors, but since it's on private property, the 1st amendment, which is meant to protect unpopular speech, says the owner(s) can fly it. The debate ends there.

I don't deny that slavery was the the main divide, but if you look at the timeline of secession on a granular level it's clear that most states only took action as response to northern agression against South Carolina. There was nothing in the constitution preventing secession, and it was done democratically. The South was objectively getting screwed by the North, and had no recourse in the federal government.
Slavery is morally wrong but the South was legally right. Having the North's will imposed upon them was inevitable, and I celebrate the fact that the stood up to the aggressors.
@@squarecracker If it was really about right to secede, why did the confederate government violently crack down and kill people wanting to secede from the south? Multiple counties in eastern Tennessee voted democratically by a majority vote in those counties to separate from the confederacy. When they did this, the confederate army responded by marching in, cracking down on dissent and killing many of those simply wanting to separate from a country they didn't wish to be part of. Why is that so different than what the confederates themselves did? If they believed in the right to secede, why could units of government not secede from the confederacy they had just created too?
Perhaps the simplest explanation is that it wasn't really about just the right to secede. Otherwise it requires some pretty crazy mental gymnastics to reconcile those.

Anybody who claims Tampa ain't Southern needs a history and geography lesson! From Pensacola to Jacksonville to Key West and everywhere in between - all of Florida is a part of Dixie regardless if some cities and urban sprawls have lost most of their Southern accent and culture. Umm...I’m related a Nazi who died during WWII. I’ve never once flown a Nazi flag for him. I don’t support this flag being removed as it’s on private property and I believe in a persons right to express themselves.
