Jainism was not founded by Lord Mahavira , he was the last of 24 tithankaras of jainism, first being Lord Rishabhdev. There is mention of jainism and it's early tithankaras in the Rig ved as well.

Lord Rishabhdev(1st tirthankara) is the founder of Jainism, not lord Mahavira(24th tirthankara). Lord Mahavira only re-polularized Jainism among people.
