My husband and I are decluttering our basement right now. We are "seniors" so we work a little each day. This is working well for us. We don't get overly tired or overwhelmed! Everything that is not trash is being donated. This process is taking a lot off our minds. We don't want our kids to have to deal with all of this when we are gone.
Sparing your kids from cleaning and recycling your belongings is a great gift them. My kids don't really want much of my stuff. I label what is wanted by whom, and then follow your process. It is such a relief to have less
Thanks for the tips. Here’s my summary. 1. Declutter/purge only your stuff - let other folks declutter their own stuff. 2. Declutter/purge when you are in the right ‘state of mind’. 3. Declutter/purge a little daily, weekly, or monthly so you have enough steam/momentum. 4. Focus on benefits of decluttered space and positive aspects of purging stuff. 5. Keep your process simple for decluttering. 6. Focus only on decluttering. The time to organize/get storage containers is when you’re done. 7. Make decisions on your own about which items you purge/keep. 8. Ignore potential for regret about decluttered/purged items. Ignore future cost of re-purchasing. 9. For possible sale items, calculate potential income. Is it worth your time/effort to sell them? 10. Move purged items out of home immediately - or ASAP.
For a long time I held on to about 1,000 assorted items that I was not using. My justification was, "what if I need this item some time in the future? I'd have to buy it again!" Eventually I let the items go, having the new mindset that, if I have to re-buy one or two items over the next few years, so what? I'm gaining SO much more, in space and in mental clarity, by getting rid of so many things.
Not to say , when ( and if) the time to need a thing we have comes, we don't know where it is !- even we know is somewhere in the house !- So, we go to shop it , because we need it ! No time to check all boxes !
Adding onto this, you ask yourself “would it really cost me much to replace this item?” I found that a lot of the things I decluttered were cheap and replaceable
I am having a hard time getting rid of a few things I recieved as wedding gifts. When I got married I asked for *everything* I could think of and I didn't really know what I would really use. I had a lot of grand ambitions I think. Now I have a better idea of what I actually use but I still am not really sure if I want to let go of that stuff I was so *sure* I would need as a new wife 🤔.
What really hit home with me was the keeping things in case I might wear them again (when I haven’t worn them for years) and not moving clutter from one room to another!
Teach your kids to declutter -- show them how you decluttered something and how nice it looks and how nice it makes you feel, and then tell them that there are poor kids who could use their excess toys and then help them to declutter in small steps, such as books one day, board games another, video games another, clothes another, puzzles another, etc. My kids are grown and the main things they have kept are their Lego sets and childhood books. And a few small doodads they kept by their bedsides. Teach them to destress and relax too. Turn off the electronics for part of the day and get them involved in hobbies and skill acquisition. A musical instrument, learning to cook or sew, how to set up a tent, carving, wood burning, cross country skiing -- anything that strikes their fancy. Scouting used to teach a lot of that and I think kids miss out on SO much -- nature lore, taking wildlife photos, making collections of stamps, seashells, rocks, leaves, etc.
My declutter has been easy coz of doing it step by step......1 drawer a day 1 cabinet a day under the bed a separate day when I am in that mindset then only
The question I mostly ask myself is: would I want to carry this to a new home? Having moved before I really would only want items I need in the boxes. Before we also moved with us some clutter that we gave up in our new home... Doesn't feel worth all the effort.
One fundamental change I made when deciding if an item stays or goes is - when I'm unsure, to break thru the indecision I put it in the 'outgoing' pile and see how it feels. That act always gives me the extra clarity I need. (And 9 times out of 10, it stays in the outgoing pile.)
Made all the mistakes of decluttering. Only yesterday I got rid of an old trike. My kids used yo use it and so did my grandkids. They are too big for that now so bye bye. Boy did I get into trouble with hubby. He wanted to keep it and so did my 30 year old son. BIG no no........to chuck something that's not realy mine.😱😳🤪 Lesson learned and I do realy feel bad and I did apologize . At the moment I only have one area decluttered and the rest is all over the place because I....... yep took everything out everywhere. Back to the drawing board , sit back and think a little. Thanks for your video.🤗
And it's not for every one to do it that way. I get over whelmed just looking at my stuff and thinking about starting to Declutter. Thoughts and feelings change from day to day about every thing.
I did that the other day and had a panic attack the next. I felt like I was spoilt and couldn’t appreciate how lucky I was to have all these objects, that I was ungrateful towards the presents I ended up not keeping. It was very hard
@@girlygirlwoman l feel you sister. On one hand l declutter shit l *think* l don't need, on the other, l love home decor, and find myself buying cute, minimalist shit. I am just attached to the posessions that make my life more aestethicly pleasing or comfortable, like way too many graphic T's, pillows, vases, candles, trinket dishes, silk flowers and artificial leaves. Maybe l am meant to just learn from minimalism videos when enough is enough.
Hana Rachel yes and I am moving in with my daughter and her man because my rent was getting ridiculous. It’s extremely overwhelming, but I will get through this and be at peace when it’s done!
I agree on all points. Some of them really hit the nail on the head with me like the one with selling. Also, leaving stuff that is decluttered too long in the house. Thank you Vera⭐️
My hall is currently cluttered with 12 large bags of stuff waiting to be collected by the British Heart Foundation charity shop next week. I had a huge purge of books, bric a brac, kitchen equipment, clothes and craft items (that I never got round to using) over the past 2 weeks and feel so much better for it. It’s really cathartic and I can’t wait to get the donations out of the way now! (I don’t drive, so the charity shops collect my donations). I love your tips Vera, thank you 😊
Thank you. I ran out of steam. So was bing watching you tube as a distraction. Came across this video and found the reason why I had run out of steam. I can start again, thank you, xxx
I actually lost 7 lbs, and can wear my older clothes again. It was a good thing i kept some really nice clothes and not donated them, especially clothes for work. I was too plump at 130 for my frame, now i feel so much better. I do regret ridding some things I really need, and should have saved.
Yes sometimes it can be good to save items! Especially if you have a clear goal about how you will go about using them again in the future like in your case, weight loss. Enjoy your weekend 🤗
@@cameliap1146 That's what they say to make you buy more stuff after tossing out a bunch of perfectly good items... Rewarding yourself for losing weight or whatever is exactly the kind of consumerist BS trend that leads to perpetual decluttering sessions followed by more shopping. If the clothes are ill fitting or otherwise not right even after weight loss then by all means toss them, but replacing something that is perfectly fine with more of the same just for the sake of it is not at all environmentally friendly, let alone minimalist.
I am making this me time, so its focused on how I feel about my life, and I can get theraputic insight while clearing out clutter. I modeled, so clothing that is designer or high end fabrics have all this value, in my mind but I don't wear that stuff because its either dry clean only and needs it, or too stiff or scratchy, or I feel over dressed. Instead, I wear what makes me comfy, stretchy fabrics that breathe, colors that give me a mood lift and lots of black too. I am getting courage from your video, its so nice to have help in areas I am under practiced in, like organizing and reducing material things. I have thought of it so negatively, but right now, its not over whelming, its something I will feel good when I am doing it, and after with my aesthetically cleaned out home, and wardrobe that I can keep organized and not tossed all over my room! I have had the pack rat mentality and couldn't figure out how to change it. It isn't at all hard like I was thinking. Small steps, and eventually, worth doing, for multiple reasons. Have company over, be peaceful and relaxed, find things when I need them, not worry about the junk stuffed in boxes and closets. Reasons are many. Especially raise my self worth! Thanks!
Keeping it in sections is best for me..not so overwhelming. Right now I am decluttering sentimental stuff. It’s not easy. You give me so much encouragement! Thank you for all you do!
That's great, keeping it in sections. Sentimental stuff can be challenging, you're doing great, just be patient and keep going :) Thanks for your support!
I've started decluttering with the Konmari-method. Clothes were easy, but books is really difficult for me. I would not read them twice, but looking at them and remembering the wonderful stories.... I've decided to let the stories go who make me feel sad and keep my favorites. I'm moving in 8 weeks and I really hope I can declutter a lot and begin with a minimalistic home.
I like the part of the Kon Mari method when you thank your possession for being apart of your life before letting it go. I do this when I feel like I might miss an item even though I know it's no longer serving a purpose in my life. My 5 year old laughs at me for thanking objects but it works for me haha!
Forget about money - just let the things go - give them to others. Experiences are more important than money or things. It was money spent - it has gone, so just move on. All the best.
ahhhh, yes but some of us are quite poor (students, single moms, sick/disabled, supporting old parents, whatever), so you need every extra few dollars and could maybe have a free day for "experiences" instead of working two jobs....
I love this so much 👍❤️ Right now I’m in the middle of decluttering, I cannot believe I have so many items that I no longer use. Decluttering is a marathon not a sprint 👍 yes indeed I agree 👍❤️
A helpful hint I’ve come across for decluttering is to keep only what you absolutely need or absolutely treasure, it really helps to think of it that way! I really enjoy your videos and your emphasis on simplicity, keep it up😊
I agree with you about to not declutter someone else's stuffs. Decluttering without their consent will only hurt them, especially when you (unknowingly) throw away their precious belongings. My mom used to declutter my things without my consent so often that I lost count. One day she thrown away my wall posters and my childhood's loose leafs collection, not knowing that I cherish them so much. I got so mad at her for that and my anger hurt both of us.
Thanks for pointing out these issues like decluttering other’s stuff and moving things from one side to other side of the house instead of getting rid off. I have started decluttering and must say its a slow and sometimes hard process tho. Thank you for helping, this life changing process gets easy and clear for me. Much love❤️
Yes! You admit that each person will have a way that will work best for them! I really suggest the purge of items quickly as I am guilty of grabbing items back!
I usually make 3 stacks for decluttering! A want stack, A need stack and A disposal stack! Junk mail is thrown in the trash can, after I take my address off of it! Inventory of my closets are essential for my peace of mind! Thank you for your good advice!
No mistakes yet. Haven't starting de-cluttering yet. I want to make sure I don't make a mistake and be mad and upset. Great tips and great video. Thanks.
Yes! I actually went through things & donated so much to charity shops...a month later I went back through my closet & realized there were some pieces I truly wish I had kept and really not replaceable vintage clothes that I would wear now. I kept dark monotone clothes, kind of sad.
Thank you for the video! I have been wanting to declutter and follow my inner gut more. Luckily, making my home a healthful breathing space for myself in my life is in my control and I hope to enhance that by making room for my thoughts and find peace. Thank you for this kindness :)
Your tip to not declutter several areas at the same time is great 👍 that only creates a mess. Just doing one small area at a time does work, even though that's slow and time-consuming. Having afew boxes in one area also works, one box for keep and another for don't keep. Then to group similar items together within that 'keep' box into separate 'homes'. Once the 'homes' for similar items are set up, it's easier to start clearing another area. Eventually each separate 'home' can be organised later as, like you say, that's a different task. I was fed up not finding what I needed, to then have to buy another one, only to find several of those same items later 🙄. Now there's a 'home' for those grouped similar items, to go straight to. Thank you for your videos and help 👍
Great tips, and perfect timing for me! I've done my first big decluttering a couple of years ago, but it's time to do it all over again. Hugs from California! 🤗
Wow Vera ! I have been a minimalist for almost 2 years and I have never heard of Rage Purging! For some reason brings to mind of a messy break up with one party throwing the other's belongings on the street! 😂😂
‘Will fix it and then use it’ is something I have stopped doing. Specially here in India we love doing this and you cannot imagine the sight of our lofts (usually full of stuffs which are not working). However, slowly from last month I am decluttering and it feels so good.
Thank you Vera for this useful video ! Loved the advice to not to declutter and organize at the same time. I think this idea that I had to get rid of the useless stuff AND to tidy the rest up nicely was keeping me away from decluttering. So no more excuses !
Haha, I just decluttered 4 items in my bedroom by moving around 4 other items I had in my living room sideboard and elsewhere in my bedroom (in a non permanent spot). Got rid of two decorative vases, a candle holder and a big teddy bear. Replaced it with a bamboo box filled with my candles and now have a permanent home for my two really sentimental cuddly toys. Also, for the first time ever I now have an empty shelve in my living room sideboard (and nothing left to put on it). I'll keep moving things around, until it all falls into place. Works out great for me actually 😊 Proves the first (?) point you made, what works for someone else doesn't have to work for you. Got rid of over 60% of my possessions by basically moving stuff around. All part of actually finding out what works, what doesn't and where you have room or where it is practical to store/ save your items. Sometimes it's a learning process to find permanent homes for something and you'll have to shuffle things around. Nothing wrong with that. Just don't keep moving stuff from the bedroom floor to the hallway, to the garage, to the basement, to the living room and back to the bedroom floor... That's just tiring and causes demotivation. But do move things around when you're actually trying to find a permanent home for it. It's important to have a vision of how you want your space to look and what you want to store on each shelve or behind each door, some people are more visual and NEED to move stuff around to know if it works or not 💪🏻👍🏻
Thanks. I always get caught up with the ... I’ll use it someday one. I find for decluttering that it works best in stages and as you progress. There’s less to focus on and more courage backing you so the easier those hard things to get rid of become
I have been watching different people on RUclips just like you said. I appreciate your candor on making it your own. One mentioned making money off clutter. I was a tad stressed that I was not getting the most out of clutter. I get it. But the reality is I do not or want to make the time to sell the items! Thank you!!!
Your voice is so fit into minimalism. I don't know if that makes sense but your voice reminds me of something peaceful, gentle, clean, slow, easy , which is I think equal to minimalism. Great tips great voice. I'm a new subscriber now 💜
thank you for this video! you hit the nail on the head. I started decluttering in more than one room and it became a more stressful project. lesson learned :-)
I am just beginning to pare down my belongings. I like what you said about not doing it all at the same time. One room at a time - or closet - or drawer - or shelf. And, I haven't decided to streamline every area. I will likely indulge myself in a hobby just so that I don't feel deprived.... until I can fully appreciate the liberation in the other areas of my life. One reason I want to do this - is so things are neater and more organized. Another reason is that our children have grown up and have their own places - and I would like to down size to a smaller home in the future. Also, I don't want my children to have to deal with my stuff when I die...want the process to be as pain-free as possible for them. My father was a minimalist (in the 1980s) and it was easy to tie up the loose-ends. My mother was a hoarder (and had accumulated a lot of stuff when she had a lot of money) - it took years to deal with her mess 30 years later. I would never want to put my children in such a difficult situation.
I liked all of the tips you mentioned, I will consider all this and trying to decluter first then organized . Thanks, I think I'm on my way to declutering using all the tips you suggest here.♥️♥️♥️
We recently had to empty a bedroom to replace flooring. I found by accident, it is so much easier to declutter the way Marie Kondo suggests. When "stuff" is just placed around, it is hard to see them as clutter. But once we had everything piled in another room to clear out the first room, I saw plenty that I was hanging onto and did not really need. It feels so good to now have much less in the room after redoing our floors. Onto to the next room.....
I am a mother to eight with number 9 on the way and we have a kind of small home with NO closets.. Its so frustrating but I have really done a lot with what I can. I am at a roadblock in some areas, however those aren't all bad..road blocks help us to take a break the rethink how we will tackle something. Instead of complaining I am in prayer and reflection over what I should do in a certain circumstance. We homeschool, so I cant have less books, compared to many homeschool families its really not much but its still things that we use. I feel like Closets help so so much. SO I am looking for things like shelves that aren't super bulky....
Vera: I'm still having problems with the letting go of pricey stuff. I had a method that I thought would work, but it isn't. Nonetheless, I truly learned my lesson about impulse shopping. No more of that!
Yes impulse buying can definitely lead to some items that are tricky to declutter 😣 Have you looked into the option of selling them or giving then away to someone you know?
@@SimpleHappyZen Yes, I had a plan to sell them, but it isn't working. My friends don't like the style of my handbags, so I think I'm going to sell on eBay and see what happens. I don't want to give them away because I want the money to add to my European tour (The Netherlands included☺️) in a year. But you're motivating me to get rid of these items asap, so thanks!
In my experience, there's almost always someone looking for what I'm selling on ebay haha. Hopefully it'll work out. And wow a Europe tour! That's great :) And thanks for planning to visit our small country :)
"Decluttering without ones consent" I call that mom being mom. Maa! Where is my..? Already, gone. Board games, Pokemon cards and toys ones I liked and enjoyed playing with. Ones she like hangs around. Thanks mom.
Almost everything that belonged to my kids I gave to them to get rid of, that way I was not burdened with the guilt of throwing it away. Currently I am going through photos, put into different piles. One son said he didnt want them, I said, well if you want to throw them out that is up to you, I am not going to do it. It is so freeing even if the items are yet to be collected, lol
I would love to see a video of what you/a minimalist still keeps in the cupboards and drawers after the decluttering. A housetour of your place after. Because i think you said you didnt have before and after pictures of your place.
No I don't unfortunately.... though my apartment has changed a lot since my last apartment tour video, so maybe I can use that as 'midway' footage haha
Very informative. Im on a jpurney to a more minimal life and I have made this mistakes while trying tk declutter. Ine day and one space at a time has been the best for me. Thank u for sharing.
Thank you so much for another wonderful video. I wish you much happiness with your YT channel now as your full time occupation. It's wonderful and I so enjoy the content. With much love from the rural forests of Tasmania, Australia

1.Listen to your own heart not someone else’s advice. 2. Don’t tell your friends or family your new found discovery. 3. If one of the things you choose to get rid of is something that one of your family members or friends would enjoy and you have seen them admire it, give it to them. Nothing is more satisfying to your heart than seeing the joy on their face when they get a gift they really didn’t expect. Good karma! 3. Really be honest with yourself, if you hadn’t done anything with an item or not worn it in 6 months ( excluding seasonal wear) get rid of it! I am also a former hoarder and I am working out my hoard issues, hopefully this helps someone!
Rosy Wilson it’s pawning not palming and if they comment how much they love & enjoy it , then give it to them. Who are you to give advice/ comment to me? I am probably older than you and been around enough to realize that when people want something they will insufferably remark about it, or not say anything at all!
I just love your videos!! The energy is the best :). How you put doing what works for you as number one totally sums up what I like best about your videos above many other minimalism RUclipsrs. Thanks for putting that energy out into the world!
For me… Not getting rid of the decluttered stuff is a biggie! Thanks for the reminder... I also have some coins etc that may be valuable... can find a place to inquire...! And papers and interesting flyers and resources for local places etc. are another thing that it’s difficult for me to get rid of. places I would like to go, interesting things around... places I’d like to visit... I think I’m making progress...
Thanks for sharing Rebecca! About the flyers and places you might want to visit, how about taking pictures of them and storing them in a special folder on your phone? That way they don't clutter, and you won't forget :)
Right now I'm trying to declutter because I've held on to old stuff for too long. I hate dust and so much of it has gathered on stuff that I don't use anymore, so I'm decluttering.
Dear Vera, Thank you for this super helpful and, as always : beautiful, video. And just perfect timing for me! A friend asked me to help her declutter after moving to a new apartment. Thanks for the tips for both of us!
I know I want to lose weight, so I told myself when I decluttered my clothes I could keep a limited number (I decided on 5 items) that I could keep in the back of the closet where I don't see them. Next year I'll declutter my clothes again and see if they fit! If not I can get rid of them!
I did this too! One pair of trousers per day at work and 3 pairs of jeans. For when I get slim again, I will be prepared with the perfect wardrobe. Meanwhile I havent worn that size since 2012 lol
Hi Vera Very good tips thank you very much. I also received your newsletter my husband or I are not summer people either. We love Autumn,Winter and Spring.❤
I usually put old clothes that can be used as rags into a bag because I use them when I paint, today I found a shirt in there that I really liked and I put it back in my closet because I know I'll wear it, I got rid of it when I was being too hard on myself about getting rid of stuff, I guess maybe rage purging.
I did a masdive declutter a year ago. However, I now regret getting rid of some my books. I should have put things I was doubtful about to one side. Waited and decided a little later. I just got rid of things too quickly.
nice video, I see lots of things in which this will help me. However I am a disabled Female who doesnt want to be a minimalist, I have no relatives or friends close by and my things are my memories. the other day i got out an old jacket and i sat and just looked at it and rmembering all the great places i have worn it and the great memorys it brings back. Will I wear it again doubtful its from the 70's (with leather fringe ) lol. But taking a photo of it just wouldnt be the same for me. My thingsare like little time capsules and since i dont have much of a future, memories are all i have.
Thank you so much for sharing your personal story! I can definitely imagine and I would also advise you to keep that jacket. The smell and feel of the texture will not come across in a photo :) Take care! 🌱 Hope you will have lots of time for making new memories
Dear Jeaniej Butler, I just wanted to say that you do have a bright future ahead of you, even if it's hard for you to see it, in this season of your life. None of what you've been through will be wasted. Peace and hope be with you. 🙏
@@user98dlk7hg6vc Thank you so very much for your kind words,, I really needed them today. You see yesterday my best friend of 50 yrs and the sister I never had passed away. We have always lived accross the street from each other so right now I truely am feeling lost.
@@jeaniejbutler4911 I'm so sorry for your loss.... I do hope that in time you will find peace and comfort, and hope. It will probably take time (it usually does), but hang in there with everything you've got, and seek out the things/activities/people/music that gives you happiness, to help you through this. I don't mean to sound shallow, but sometimes these smaller things can help us through the biggest upheavals, and keep our thoughts from entering into deep downward cycles, until things begin to improve again. Please know that every tear, every sigh, every groan is heard and counted, and you are never alone, no matter what your emotions might tell you. And finally, please reach out for help - a relative, friend or a professional - it can make so much of a difference, if you're open to it (even phone calls, if face-to-face is not possible). Praying much hope and peace comes your way very soon
Thank you Jenna, that's really sweet :) I agree, I can certainly see the value in it, but for me personally I like my folding to be a bit less high maintenance :)

"Decluttering is a marathon, not a sprint" I love that!
Thanks Mariela 🤗🌻
not necessary!
Mariela Merino I strongly agree with you.
I love these words. ^_^
Thank you Vera for inspiring me.
agree!!! minimalism is a journey
Would I buy this again is a good question to ask in the decluttering process! Thanks for sharing 🌸
Glad you find it helpful 🤗🌱
For a long time I held on to about 1,000 assorted items that I was not using. My justification was, "what if I need this item some time in the future? I'd have to buy it again!" Eventually I let the items go, having the new mindset that, if I have to re-buy one or two items over the next few years, so what? I'm gaining SO much more, in space and in mental clarity, by getting rid of so many things.
YES! Couldn't agree more :)
this is soooo helpful thank you
Not to say , when ( and if) the time to need a thing we have comes, we don't know where it is !- even we know is somewhere in the house !- So, we go to shop it , because we need it !
Thanks for sharing Virginia and I agree! :)
My declutter has been easy coz of doing it step by step......1 drawer a day 1 cabinet a day under the bed a separate day when I am in that mindset then only
That sounds great Laila, thanks for sharing and happy decluttering! ✌🏻😄🌷
The question I mostly ask myself is: would I want to carry this to a new home? Having moved before I really would only want items I need in the boxes. Before we also moved with us some clutter that we gave up in our new home... Doesn't feel worth all the effort.
Yes that's great, I often use that question myself :)
I started decluttering my stuff and my family was interested and actually joined me in doing so, so now we all declutter together :) !
That's amazing!! Good luck and have lots of fun together
One fundamental change I made when deciding if an item stays or goes is - when I'm unsure, to break thru the indecision I put it in the 'outgoing' pile and see how it feels. That act always gives me the extra clarity I need. (And 9 times out of 10, it stays in the outgoing pile.)
That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing 🤗🌷
Made all the mistakes of decluttering. Only yesterday I got rid of an old trike. My kids used yo use it and so did my grandkids. They are too big for that now so bye bye. Boy did I get into trouble with hubby. He wanted to keep it and so did my 30 year old son.
BIG no no........to chuck something that's not realy mine.😱😳🤪
Lesson learned and I do realy feel bad and I did apologize .
At the moment I only have one area decluttered and the rest is all over the place because I....... yep took everything out everywhere.
Back to the drawing board , sit back and think a little.
Thanks for your video.🤗
Haha well learning from a mistake is the most important thing! :) I'm sure your intentions were in the right place
Keeping it small and manageable is the easiest way for me to declutter ♡
Thanks for sharing :) :) :)
Decluttering too much at once can be overwhelming.
Definitely! :)
You're very welcome :) Happy decluttering!
I love your tips Vera, thank you 😊
That's amazing, you did a lot of work! I'm sure it felt amazing 😄✌🏻
Simple Happy Zen I feel so much lighter of spirit 😇
Thank you. I ran out of steam. So was bing watching you tube as a distraction. Came across this video and found the reason why I had run out of steam. I can start again, thank you, xxx
So glad the video was helpful for you Tina :) Happy decluttering! Remember to focus on the small tasks instead of the big goal :)
You lost 7 lbs. You deserve nice new clothes to flatter and enjoy your actual body. Don't look behind.
@@r.n.4765 : I agree with you. However ( nonobstant) the human psyche is more complex. But you are right ( in absolute ).Regards.
A good tip for me was That some one told me when you buy Something new through one thing you already have.
Yes! The one in, one out rule :) Thanks for sharing Heleen
Yes! I have a rule, carry something in, carry something out. I love it!
Thanks for sharing Vanessa, you're doing great! Happy decluttering and good luck with the move!! 🤗
I have decluttered something and then regret it. But happy that those things have been small not world changing ☺️
Paula
Yes that can happen sometimes! But still like you said, not the end of the world :) Thanks for sharing Paula!
I like the part of the Kon Mari method when you thank your possession for being apart of your life before letting it go. I do this when I feel like I might miss an item even though I know it's no longer serving a purpose in my life. My 5 year old laughs at me for thanking objects but it works for me haha!
I wish you could get the money back for items you no longer need , I would throw out 90% of my belongings
That would be neat :)
guess what, you can sell them. i just made around 600€ with selling my stuff
Forget about money - just let
the things go - give them to
others. Experiences are more
important than money or things.
It was money spent - it has gone,
so just move on. All the best.
ahhhh, yes but some of us are quite poor (students, single moms, sick/disabled, supporting old parents, whatever), so you need every extra few dollars and could maybe have a free day for "experiences" instead of working two jobs....
@@lorablackbird where did you sell it?🤔😊
I love this so much 👍❤️
Right now I’m in the middle of decluttering, I cannot believe I have so many items that I no longer use.
Decluttering is a marathon not a sprint 👍 yes indeed I agree 👍❤️
So glad you enjoyed the video! And happy decluttering! 😄🌷🌱
A helpful hint I’ve come across for decluttering is to keep only what you absolutely need or absolutely treasure, it really helps to think of it that way! I really enjoy your videos and your emphasis on simplicity, keep it up😊
Thanks for sharing your great tip! :) Have a happy Sunday
You're so right about not being in the right state of mind while decluttering what about things u can never buy again !! Thank you for your video!!
Thank you so much Yvonne :)
Much love❤️
Thanks so much Quamara, so glad to read my videos have been helpful for you. You're doing great, just keep going and enjoy the proces 🙂🌹
Simple Happy Zen i am enjoying to be honest😊
That's great! Feels good right 😄
Simple Happy Zen 👌🏼
Yes! You admit that each person will have a way that will work best for them! I really suggest the purge of items quickly as I am guilty of grabbing items back!
Yes it's easy to go through them again and take stuff back :) The sooner the declutter pile is gone, the better haha
I usually make 3 stacks for decluttering! A want stack, A need stack and A disposal stack!
Junk mail is thrown in the trash can, after I take my address off of it! Inventory of my closets are essential for my peace of mind! Thank you for your good advice!
You're very welcome Cecilie, enjoy your weekend!
@@SimpleHappyZen You too! 👍
Great video. I've been decluttering for 2 years continuously and I can agree with all the things you say 👍
Thank you so much Éva 🤗🌹🌱
No mistakes yet. Haven't starting de-cluttering yet. I want to make sure I don't make a mistake and be mad and upset. Great tips and great video. Thanks.
Hope the video helped you to get started Sherry! 🤗 Don't worry if you make a mistake here and there, it happens and we learn from it 😊
Yes! I actually went through things & donated so much to charity shops...a month later I went back through my closet & realized there were some pieces I truly wish I had kept and really not replaceable vintage clothes that I would wear now. I kept dark monotone clothes, kind of sad.
Me neither: havent started decluttering yet. Lets do it, once and for all! I know I have to do it soon!
Thank you so much for sharing Susan! 🤗🌱 Glad you enjoy my videos :)
Great tips, and perfect timing for me! I've done my first big decluttering a couple of years ago, but it's time to do it all over again. Hugs from California! 🤗
That's great, good luck and happy decluttering! Let me know how it goes 🤗🌱
Wow Vera ! I have been a minimalist for almost 2 years and I have never heard of Rage Purging! For some reason brings to mind of a messy break up with one party throwing the other's belongings on the street! 😂😂
Hahaha yes that's the image I had first as well 😅
‘Will fix it and then use it’ is something I have stopped doing. Specially here in India we love doing this and you cannot imagine the sight of our lofts (usually full of stuffs which are not working). However, slowly from last month I am decluttering and it feels so good.
That's great, keep it up! Happy decluttering 🤗
Thank you Vera for this useful video ! Loved the advice to not to declutter and organize at the same time. I think this idea that I had to get rid of the useless stuff AND to tidy the rest up nicely was keeping me away from decluttering. So no more excuses !
That's great, so glad the tip helped you to get started 😄✌🏻🌷
It's important to have a vision of how you want your space to look and what you want to store on each shelve or behind each door, some people are more visual and NEED to move stuff around to know if it works or not 💪🏻👍🏻
very crisp and to the point videos.
Thank you :)
Thanks. I always get caught up with the ... I’ll use it someday one. I find for decluttering that it works best in stages and as you progress. There’s less to focus on and more courage backing you so the easier those hard things to get rid of become
Thanks for sharing! I totally agree, small steps, one foot in front of the other :) It'll become easier and easier
I have been watching different people on RUclips just like you said. I appreciate your candor on making it your own. One mentioned making money off clutter. I was a tad stressed that I was not getting the most out of clutter. I get it. But the reality is I do not or want to make the time to sell the items! Thank you!!!
You're very welcome, feel free to do it 100% your way :D
Your voice is so fit into minimalism. I don't know if that makes sense but your voice reminds me of something peaceful, gentle, clean, slow, easy , which is I think equal to minimalism. Great tips great voice. I'm a new subscriber now 💜
Wow thank you for your wonderful compliments, welcome to the channel!! 🤗🌷🌱
thank you for this video! you hit the nail on the head. I started decluttering in more than one room and it became a more stressful project. lesson learned :-)
You're very welcome! :) I know exactly what you mean haha, happened to me too

Vera your so Sweet. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos. I love your calm energy. Your good for my soul xo

Gentle Reminder:- declutter trash people without thinking of returning them back.
Thanks so much for sharing your story Mom Pofelski 🤗🌱
Rage purging works well for me. Anxiety rather than rage but I put the energy to good use
As long as it works for you, I say go for it 😄
I liked all of the tips you mentioned, I will consider all this and trying to decluter first then organized . Thanks, I think I'm on my way to declutering using all the tips you suggest here.♥️♥️♥️
So glad to hear it Jennifer, good luck and let me know how it goes! :)
Yes it's amazing how getting everything out makes the stuff feel so much different. I love that way of decluttering 🤗🌱
Amazing video. I love how you emphasize to do what feels best for you! 👍👍❤️
"Decluttering without ones consent" I call that mom being mom. Maa! Where is my..? Already, gone. Board games, Pokemon cards and toys ones I liked and enjoyed playing with. Ones she like hangs around. Thanks mom.
My mom decluttered my pokemon cards as well (by accident though) 😯
Almost everything that belonged to my kids I gave to them to get rid of, that way I was not burdened with the guilt of throwing it away. Currently I am going through photos, put into different piles. One son said he didnt want them, I said, well if you want to throw them out that is up to you, I am not going to do it. It is so freeing even if the items are yet to be collected, lol
Hi Vera, I think I’ve done all these things at one time or another. Beautiful video as always. Thank you 🙌🏻💕💕
Haha no shame, I've done most of them as well 😄
"Rage Purging"... I've always called it "Cleaning Frenzy", but I know it well!
Haha yes you could also call it that
I would love to see a video of what you/a minimalist still keeps in the cupboards and drawers after the decluttering.

Thank you so much for sharing, very valuable advice :)
Why Not Tell Family and Friends?
But equally, don’t go palming off all your unwanted ‘stuff’ to other people who end up with a house full of your junk. Speaking from experience here 🙁
Rosy Wilson it’s pawning not palming and if they comment how much they love & enjoy it , then give it to them. Who are you to give advice/ comment to me? I am probably older than you and been around enough to realize that when people want something they will insufferably remark about it, or not say anything at all!
This is the best beginners video I’ve seen! 👏🏽

My biggest problem is trying to do too much, getting overwhelmed, and giving up. Now I just try to do a little and stop before I'm exhausted.
Yes, much better :) Thanks Kathryn, good luck with your decluttering goals!
I know I want to lose weight, so I told myself when I decluttered my clothes I could keep a limited number (I decided on 5 items) that I could keep in the back of the closet where I don't see them. Next year I'll declutter my clothes again and see if they fit! If not I can get rid of them!

Yes that could be the case :) Good that you found it again!
I did a masdive declutter a year ago. However, I now regret getting rid of some my books. I should have put things I was doubtful about to one side. Waited and decided a little later. I just got rid of things too quickly.

Dear Jeaniej Butler,
I just wanted to say that you do have a bright future ahead of you, even if it's hard for you to see it, in this season of your life.
None of what you've been through will be wasted. Peace and hope be with you. 🙏
@@SimpleHappyZen thanks very much ...
I love all these helpful tips! Thank you!
So glad to hear it, thank you and enjoy your weekend 🤗🍵🌹
Thanks Vera! I loved your video....you are so kind. Im also not a huge fan of Marie Kondos folding techniques...its a bit too time consuming.
Thank you Jenna, that's really sweet :) I agree, I can certainly see the value in it, but for me personally I like my folding to be a bit less high maintenance :)
Hey ...hi ! Thank you so much for clearing my mind , coz some things I won't use now but later in future I can like that I use to think but got confused after seeing so many decluttering videos ! But yes now I'm cleared in my mind 😊👍
