He and Zirkzee have had a poor start with United. But Ten Hag knew these are quality players. It's unfortunate they started playing in a team that was lacking in confidence, but nonetheless have to put up with the pressure and expectations of "playing with Manchester United". But the suffering (as Amorim said) in this game especially, and their magnificent performance despite the odds, have given them and the team much needed confidence. United's defence looks solid now that de Ligt has found his footing. With Utarte providing the steel and Mainoo the energy in midfield, this department is much improved too. If the team can score more goals, it's not impossible to at least improve on last year's results.

Is anyone else noticing the fact that the players are more fitter now , no injuries like last season (just Mount ) , it’s clear ETH were training them into the ground . Then when asked why they were injured he answered as if to say he didn’t know . Not to mention players like Mazrouri ( missed 96 days off football last season for Bayern , only a week this seasons for the heart issue ) and de ligt ( 83 days missed through injuries last season , 3 days missed this season due to flu/cold) who were plagued with injuries last season .

He’s added some serious steel to that defence. Harry looking like an £80m defender alongside him and Martinez is back. Add Yoro and Maz to that back line and Ugarte in front… I think we have the best defence in the league.
