that first room you walk 'through', used to be a GREAT fake elevator.
They would stop and explain you were going into the basement, and lights on the walls would make i appear as you were going downward while the floor sort of shook about.
I wish they would bring that element back.
Also, you used to go outside twice on each story, after the head lifting animatronic was added, that balcony is obviously off limits.
It's changed a bit over the years, but I still love it!

when i went a couple days ago there was a kid who somehow figured out how to work the elevator and was making it work for me and my friends. a bit odd, but im not complaining

I remember this. A cast member would show you into the elevator. When the door closed and he pushed the buttons, the room started gently rocking, the lights would make it seem like it was going down, and they would say they were taking you 'hundreds of feet below Lake Shafer' where Dr Frankenstein performed his mysterious and frightening experiments. They would tell you to be careful and watch out for the rats. At one point about halfway through before the door room there was a dark hallway where some voice would tell you to watch for rats again and they would rub against your ankles (10:00 in the video) I totally ate that up as a kid because it both scared me and amazed me.

It is best to go in the Haunted House during Halloween Horror in October, thats when they have actors in there to scare you
