@@BamaSaltwater I’m flying to Florida Monday to get my offshore rig. Sold my Triton. Going to fish for red snapper here in Texas. Getting a used boat with twins
@@BamaSaltwater next time you catch a Scamp try pan searing it. Really good like that. I’m going to some of your recipes ty. I found a lot of stuff on amazon
As a kid, I would use an innertube tied to my cutoffs, with a peach basket stuffed in it. Mask, snorkel, fins, and a crab net with 1/2 handle. Around my dock, within 30 minutes, I'd fill that basket! Another 30 minutes, those crabs were cooked and eaten! Softshells the best! Fried on white toast tartered with lettuce. 😻
awesome vid bro. Seems to me it is the whole experience that matters not just the meal at the end. Heck paddling around in a kayak checking traps and breathing the fresh air is pure gold!
You bring back so many memories for me when I was a kid of 6 or 7 up on Long Island. We used crab nets to scoop the blue crabs who would hang out on the bulkheads, docks and pilings. Then we would boil them up. What a treat! My grandfather used to go out to his spots amongst the marshes and sand bars of the Great South Bay. He had crab traps too that he deployed from his boat. He also had “killie-rings” which were a circle of hanger wire that he strung killie fish (minnows) on as bait. A good length of twine was attached to the rings. We threw them out in 6-12 feet of water. It didn’t take long for the crabs to find them. Crabs are greedy. Even though we were pulling them in on the killie-ring they were pulling back. Once near the boat we used a crab net to scoop them up.
Made my mouth water! Next time you do one of these definitely do the claws! Fried crab claws are probably one of my favorite bites of seafood the Gulf has to offer! Love your vids man
I grew up in sw Florida just south of Tampa, we would go out at night and wade the grass flats in the summer with flashlights and a dip net for blue crabs, what a great time with your family!!! One night I took my son and nephew and we caught 8 dozen, what a blast and fed the whole family!! Love your videos, brings back great memories
I’ve always been envious of where you live due to your fishing situation. For ONCE, I’m happy I live in the Pacific Northwest. Dungeness crab appears to trump blue crab.
Another great video Steve. Ya know, as a kid me and a buddy of mine used to go crabbing in the canals where I grew up. A labor of love is no lie. There is a lot of work but the payoff is a plate of delicious.
Good to see ya and spend this early Saturday morning smiling with ya as usual! Thanks for all the info! For the first time ever I feel confident in being able to make one myself if I ever get close enough to the water to do so. That is my dream--to live by the water to watch the Sun rise and set on the water, and the Moon..Ahh, one day, in the mean time I will continue to enjoy every second with you!! Thanks for sharing and tell mom HI!! Much Love from Texas!!
I've always wanted to go crabbing but never have. I appreciate you showing us the catch and cook! It's warming up here in FL so I think it's time to buy me a couple of trapes!
Awesome video man your videos are very educational I also love the pier fishing videos I’ve caught so much more awesome fish from what I’ve learned from your videos 👌
I like blue crabs, but I can never get them fresh since I'm in Canada. I truly envy you for being able to get all your fish and seafood fresh from the Gulf, Captain Stephen! Cheers!
I love the catch clean and cook! I keep looking for the Red Snapper video but I can’t find it!!! Love Red Snapper!!!! Thanks to you and the Lord above Steven!!!
Love some fresh blue crab! We always cleaned them before we steamed them. My dad always told me cooking with the mustard and gills isn’t good for the meat?🤷🏻♂️ that cayenne butter looked incredible! Really enjoyed this catch clean cook! Tight lines!
I’m a new subscriber but have been watching your videos and I definitely like your videos and look forward to them! Thanks so much for sharing! God bless you
So great to see a crabbing video! Been interesting observing the MD folks over the last couple years. Re: bait, yes, some still do the chicken necks. Eel was the favorite until recently, but even our own Chesapeake eel was priced out of affordability. Most recently, i saw crabbers in the famed Kent Narrows region using some BIG wild shrimp. Guess it depends on the going rate. Others were using little clams but i'm sure the shrimp were catching more. Boy, they were pungent. Last thing, if you haven't already read it, might i suggest one of the best books i've ever read: Beautiful Swimmers by William Warner. This book had a profound impact on me. It's biological but also poetic and will take your breath away. Thanks again for your work, bud!
here a tip bud tie the rope on the left side back corner in the middle cause it wont stress the wire as much and wear it out. i use to do it that way as well and found out it was causing stress making the wire weak and would break .
That was really a interesting video. I've heard of blue crabs and now I know so much more of them. The only problem is I can't really eat hot and spicy, like the cayenne pepper. And suggestions?
neat to see how its done in other countries, here in norway you have to register so you get a number to put on your traps. pretty much to control poaching and also to find you if a trap gets taken away by weather
I’m moving to the area, grew up in NE Alabama. Been watching your vids for a couple months trying to figure out what I’m getting into. Been bass/crappie fisherman my whole oife
Grew up on Galveston bay. We tied chicken necks to a string and then we easily pulled it up and dip net them. Needed a lid till two crabs then they prevented any other from escaping. Pretty fun
Sporting your 1/8th 1st Cav., love it! Gonna drop my first 5 set this coming monday. Picked up the local grocery stores' 10lb for $6.99 leg quarters, let them thaw and sit saturday and sunday to ripen for those crabs senses. I've all the salt commercial licenses but I only rec. for crabs. 5 here in Fl. too, except this year we had to add a hard 2"X6" device to the openings. Sea turtle stopper the tree hugging bureaucrats came up with-but only for rec crabbers(???). When I moved here everyone boiled, then I met a couple from Maryland and they only steam, far more flavor in steaming.
I love me some blue crabs. I remember catching them as a kid in the late 60's in the Florida keys. Hey Steve, I just have to say, I saw the aluminum boat, and I had to laugh.
Hey Steven, I have idea for you. My family loves it, next time with your butter add the lemon but no pepper. Try using sriracha sauce instead. We like to add some cilantro too while the butter is melting. Really kicks off the flavor. Love the video brother. Carry on.
Looks like someone checked your traps before you. That's why I run a trot line here in Delaware. Some people have no problem with helping themselves to your catch.
Cool vid. We call those crab pots here in the Chesapeake bay area. The most popular recreational bait is chicken necks. We steam them like you did. I always hear they're much cheaper down your way. A dozen large males up here will run ya $100. Now go get ya some soft crabs.
Gulf shores Sept of 2018 I was at the beach and for 2 days the beach was being swarmed with blue crab, yoy could just toss a line out with a piece of shrimp and reel one in immediately. We had a bucket full in no time. Some we just caught with little dip nets. In 2020 we moved here and haven't seen anything like that since. Is it seasonal? Mating? How often?
@BamaSaltwater They were 100% blue crab, the pictures I have show it without a doubt. It was an interesting experience and I appreciate you replying and the knowledge you share. Thanks!
I'm on the Delmarva peninsula plenty of crabbing action in 2 different bay estuaries. Chesapeake and Delaware. Can you get the brother discount at the store?
Hey Stephen been watching your videos for a while and I’ve got some of your merch too! I was wondering though if you do charters or are willing to do one?
I see a blue crab video, I watch a blue crab video. They are some of my favorites.
You’re a good man. Your momma raised you right
Thank you! She's a hard worker for sure!

My wife is from Maryland and Blue Crab feasts are a staple of life! Thanks for sharing! Keep The Lines Tight!
awesome vid bro. Seems to me it is the whole experience that matters not just the meal at the end. Heck paddling around in a kayak checking traps and breathing the fresh air is pure gold!
Rebar on the inside of your traps rather than outside...you won't scratch up your boat when you pull them. Love the crabbin' vid!
Good info
Every time I watch your videos, I get a hankering for some seafood! Great video, as always!
I'm checking daily for the next installment and I'm never disappointed with the content. Keep em' coming! May God bless.

Way to go.... good video. Food looks good.
I love eating crabs, so fun catch and cook, the best of all eat them ❤
Being from maryland, steaming them is the best way to enjoy a blue crab. J O spice is the seasoning of choice
Yes. Boiling leaches out the flavor of the delicate crab meat. Crab steamer from Texas.
I just finished eating dinner but you're making me hungry! LOL
Another Awesome Vid, love it🌊

You made them crabs look good. In my many years eating crabs, I never seen anyone eat the devils fingers, lol!

Love some fresh blue crab! We always cleaned them before we steamed them. My dad always told me cooking with the mustard and gills isn’t good for the meat?🤷🏻♂️ that cayenne butter looked incredible! Really enjoyed this catch clean cook! Tight lines!
Crabs are a pain but so worth it! Nice video! Thank you for sharing it.
The rebar also serves as a secure tie point for your line, we rig them similarly in Lake Pontchartrain.
Love Blue crabs!!

Great channel Steven,love your vids!
I've always put my funnels in the direction of the tidel movement and done very well .great vids bro
Cool observation!!
here a tip bud tie the rope on the left side back corner in the middle cause it wont stress the wire as much and wear it out. i use to do it that way as well and found out it was causing stress making the wire weak and would break .
Dang brother. That looks amazing
What a great video love the catch and cooks. U do a video of the new fishing wall under the bridge plz.
Great video, I love crabs my favorite 😍
That was really a interesting video. I've heard of blue crabs and now I know so much more of them.
The only problem is I can't really eat hot and spicy, like the cayenne pepper. And suggestions?
I was close to first😮😮😮 Stephen is the goat! Tight lines dude!
neat to see how its done in other countries, here in norway you have to register so you get a number to put on your traps. pretty much to control poaching and also to find you if a trap gets taken away by weather
Im definitely going to start steering further clear of the crab trap bouys… always assumed the lines were more taught than that
Definitely leave some room for most for sure. Crab traps are required to never be placed in Navigable water (main Channels) for that reason!!
Any chance you can do a video using them for bait to catch some big fish ..?
I’m moving to the area, grew up in NE Alabama. Been watching your vids for a couple months trying to figure out what I’m getting into. Been bass/crappie fisherman my whole oife
Man you're out here living the dream.
Grew up on Galveston bay. We tied chicken necks to a string and then we easily pulled it up and dip net them. Needed a lid till two crabs then they prevented any other from escaping. Pretty fun
Man I wish I was there Chef!!!!
Thats great man i wold love to have a treat like that
mullet droool, fried so good.
Love me some crabs 🦀
Same same!
We used to crab long ago when I was a kid as a family. We'd catch about 30-40. We'd make crab spaghetti was my favorite
What camera do you use 😊
I do miss living on the Gulf Coast, just don't miss the hurricanes and mosquitoes 🦟
Sporting your 1/8th 1st Cav., love it!

Eh just what I did at the time!
They make nice bait for Reds and black drum too!
Definitely !!

can u do longer vids?
great vids, try putting rebar inside trap. ties fail, rebar saved. Trick I learned growing up on NC coast.
Good to hear!
The ole Maryland way is the best way to do blue crabs!!
Looks like someone checked your traps before you. That's why I run a trot line here in Delaware. Some people have no problem with helping themselves to your catch.

Hey guy you got any sunglasses in your online sales? Know good place to get good pair? Thanks for show
Shades at the Wharf in Orange Beach has almost any pair you could think of
Hey Stephen, ever consider rebuilding your dock?
Everyday but the cost is very very high !

Those are normally Speckled Crabs and they are prevalent in the surf during certain times of year. No regulations on them (to my knowledge)
