My biggest gripe from this season was that Aang and Katara didn’t practice water bending together before they got to the North
Aang and katara barely had any time or interest in eachother, it was very off
I also wanted him to learn from Katara but... I kinda get why he didn't train with Katara.
The main take away of the Season for him is that he doesn't know how to be the Avatar.
I think wants to learn how to be the Avatar but at the same time he struggles in fully accepting the role.
He even says his Master is only Gyatso and he doesn't know what he's doing.
In the episode where Katara shows Aang the water-bending scroll, they discussed why Aang is choosing not to learn water-bending yet. Aang said that Gyatso is the only master who has ever taught him, and he isn't ready to learn from someone else yet. Something to that effect. There's a mental block there, and it's understandable given how guilty Aang feels for being the only survivor of the genocide of his people.
Hopefully Season 2 fixes this
I hope they are prolonging the story, where season 2 is the continuation of book 1 which means aang is starting to learn to water bend after what happened to northern water tribe, i really hope
That wasn’t flying. That was falling in style!
Omg my dad and I said the same thing when we watched the first time 😂
To Infinity and Beyond!
Mai and Ty Lee showed up in the season 2 episode "Return to Omashu". 19:55 They also played a role in many later episodes of season 2.
They were chubby
Correct
Look's a lot like azula producing lightning, not blue flames.
It’s definitely lightning.
This is the only reason I came in here. To see this.
Aang's "flying" is pretty different than the way Zaheer does it so I think it's fine. Whenever Aang does go upward he very clearly is bending in order to manipulate his position whereas Zaheer just zips around like Superman
This is what I got too, but I can understand the confusion since the way they did it really looked like he was flying
And it seems like he’s limited to pushing off the ground. It’s basically air-boosted jumping, which makes sense.
He just did a double jump and then jumps from tower to tower gliding downwards the whole time. Absolutely nothing like Zaheer at all
Yeah Aang is not "Flying" he is falling with style
ive been screaming this you can see from the beginning hes falling down but just with elegance as he controls the wind if he wasnt then why would he still have his glider in the live action
The mother of faces reference was a love letter to the comic readers
It definitely was!!!
I loved that detail and recognized it right away!
I geeked out seconds after Roku revealed the Totem 😍😍😍😍😍
@@yeahaight5915 exactly
love letter but unnecessary
Did anyone else think that Sozin went full Anakin on the Air Nomads in the first episode?
what do you think lol?
Yeah he was wilding😂😂 order 66 type
I have seen a security hologram of Sozin… killing younglings.
I’m pretty sure he meant it when he said “leave no survivors”
Nah
Fun fact. In the German dub, most voice actors are the original German voices from the cartoon. It just makes this series even better in different dubs
13:29 calling the Air scooter technique a “dirt ball” is so disrespectful
Woody: Aang! You're flying!
Aang: This isn't flying! This is Airbending.. with style!
Some people are clamoring for the avatar Kiyoshi spin-off. Me, I'm clamoring for that cabbage merchant spin-off.
We must witness his grind 😭
Real talk. His level of dedication and determination to keep coming back is unmatched
I love that they got the OG voice actor! 🥬
All seriousness I’d love a 30 min special for him 😭
MY CABBAGESSSSSSS
I needed Aang to do some water bending before the series ended.
Yea me too but maybe they wanted him to start in season2/book2water
I think he learned water bending last in the animated series
@@ApocalypticFishbowl no tf he did not🤦🏾♂️
One detail that wasn't mentioned is Yue, likely due to her having the life of the moon within her, could still water bend even though the moon spirit was dead.
he ain't flying/levitating like Zaheer, he airbends winds to lift him up and glides to it.
Yeah, Zaheer is on some superman shi.
Exactly!!! I was gonna say the same thing!
36:37 that was lightning not blue flame. I agree with the sentiment though
The problem with Kyoshi showing up before and more than Roku isn’t because Roku is cooler, it is because to commune with the past Avatar they must go in reverse order (Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, Yangchen) So it’s weird that they changed it so Aang can jump around in any order he wants. I liked them basically combing ‘Avatar Day’ with the Kyoshi island episode but I wish Aang has atleast one conversation with Roku first lol
2:44 nope they are Possum chickens lmao😂
You beat me to it.
Nice.
You think everything tastes like possum chicken!
SOHKA
Lmao nooooo
Sock-uh?
@@Androtar yes
I was thinking the same thing
I absolutely love the original animated series and was really excited for this adaptation and I can honestly say, it did not disappoint!
You are appreciated!! I enjoyed this so much and cant wait for more!!
Aang was not flying, he was just falling with style. We can see Tenzin doing something similar where he uses little boosts of air to go down a waterfall.
One thing I think is worth noting is that while there are way more episodes of the animated series, they're also significantly shorter. Both the live action and animated series are similar watch time.
Live action is 2 episodes short it would've made it feel less rushed
You know it's a good day when Rockstars uploads 🎉
This show made me appreciate the animated show even more.
I have been waiting DAYS for this thank you 😊
Loved this, great content as always - but that wasn't Azula's blue flame, it was lightning ;)
I think aang flying is just him falling, gliding down and a quick boost to level out and camera angles. He needs the glider to fly up decently rather than a quick burst
It’s not up for interpretation zahir gave the reason why air benders didn’t fly for centuries this falling and bending the air is just desperate justification
@user-rj3le5em5f well he didn't exactly go up much and why have a glider if he can just fly then?
the temple shown in 7:04 is in Myanmar not Tibet
Pretty sure the title cards change colour based on which kingdom they’re in for that episode, not which character is centric. There’s no main Earth character yet.
Really enjoyed the adaptation. There are a few small gripes but hopefully adjusted for the next seasons, which I'm looking forward to.
Toph!!!
Also the Gyatso in the spirit world part had an Easter egg from episode 12 of the animated series, Gyatso flipping Aangs clothes over his head to « cheat ». It’s what helped Aang recognize it was actually Gyatso and not an illusion in the live action
I think they will combine Aang's waterbending and earthbending training (with time skips) on the 2nd season because we never saw him trained for waterbending in this season which was sad and on the season 3, he will train for firebending atleast that's how I see it. 👍
8:35 Jessica secretly likes the other Avatar movie 😆 pronounced sokka like they did in that movie
Yeah, between the Soh Kah and the not knowing "air scooter"... ooof.
not a true fan lol @@lllslinklll
So many RUclipsrs tryna pretend to be real fans nowadays
Right ? It's Sokka pronounced with an Okka, and that's right girls I rocked ya! From tales of bah sing se lol
20:03 Correction: it was season 2 episode 3, Return to Omashu
George takei the voice of Koh, also voiced the prison warden in the original series.
He did Koh justice, too. Even creepier than the animated version. 😱
Roku got shafted. Kyoshi is doing all the introductory stuff, and this paints the avatar more as a superior commander. Maybe since this is war time it is useful, but Roku's introduction to the avatar focus in a cycle and rebirth is what the avatar truly is. Kyoshi is great, and the memes of releasing your inner Kyoshi is absolutely top tier but it is not a holistic view of the role. This very Korra mentality of all about bending and defeating your enemy, but that is not the lessons Aang got and Roku represents.
Reminds me of the headcanon of Kyoshi yelling at Roku when he let his friend have a pass. I need a cannon version of that somewhere.
I mean will probably get mostly Roku and Aang interactions in the next season's any anyway since we probably won't be seeing any other avatar until the lion turtle episode.
Also I wonder how they will basically do the lion turtle story line since basically the advices the past avatar gave there was put in the live action season one, what Kyoshi, Koruk and Roku adviced in the lion turtle is basically what they tell Aang in their live action appearances.
They also included the hand-drawn image of Lu Ten from the original series during his funeral flashback scene, above the casket (which is also an image of a young Mako)
Uncle iroh is perfect in this series
And the actor is such a sweetheart in interviews and livestreams I've seen with him.
He’s not flying. He’s just jumping and falling while reducing or increasing the air resistance around him. If he could fly, he wouldn’t use the glider.
That wasn’t flying
Right. Aang is bending the air around his body so he's technically just gliding with his body
He was obviously bending and just going to the ground slowly. He never goes up without clearly doing jumping motions
It was falling, with style
He is a superb air bender they showed just how masterful he was at it and i loved it
After Loving The Original Series And Growing Up with Aang and then watching the movie that came out and being really disappointed with it I feel like this is a step in the right direction there is a few growing pains with this adaptation, however you can feel the love to the the original series that the cast and crew put into this and I think that the next seasons that they are going to take feedback from fans and try to course correct and personally I cant wait to see it, Overall I give it a 7/10
36:37 thats clearly lightning not blue flames
7:26 disagree that he was 'flying' like Zaheer. He's clearly falling gracefully using airbending. We've seen normal airbenders do this in both the original series and in Korra.
Yes
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the Easter egg of the photo of Iroh’s son at the funeral being a practically perfect recreation. Mako made it to the live action ❤
That fact deserves mad respect
Needed 2 more episodes 🤷🏻♂️ loved the episodes that combined different episodes from the OG I felt like they pulled it off good. Also appreciated the backstory with Zuko’s crew and Bumi being a traumatized king.
Did anyone notice a hand on the tree when the blue spirit/Zuko first showed up?
That's his hand.
@@Alienindisguise can’t be
@@lahzeke6928 At 33:30? He's leaning with his elbow against the tree. If you raise your elbow to ear level and bend your hand down with your palm out you'll be in the same position.
Earthbenders become powerful with land slides, and airbenders become powerful with tornados and stuff. I read it somewhere
Why do people say that's blue flames? It's clearly lightning 😐.
This needed like 10-12 episodes to let it breathe, felt so rushed and had too much exposition.
I think people are misunderstanding the "flying" the airbenders are doing I dont believe they are flying but Pay attention to their monk outfits they are flowing in a way air could help them glide they are not flying per say just gliding or falling slower in other instances which is still gliding
I’m not gonna lie I cried when iroh told zuko that everything he needed was on the boat 😭😭😭, the only thing I didn’t like was Aang not learning waterbending
Every time I watched this episode, and I heard the theme played in the background I teared up!!! 😭😭😭 25:45
So, the flying thing is something that drives me crazy. If you watch he never really goes up. It seems more like he is controlling his descent with air bending
there is a lot of people talking shit about this series but i think they are wrong i really liked, it is a good series
I love this adaptation so much! Thank you for the positive coverage.
The change in how Zuko acts during the agni kai is so frustrating
THANKS for this, Ms. Clemons!!!
I loved that they used more Kyoshi.
Actually, no, I was very aware of how hard Katara had it... Or the fact that the only female mentor was evil.
I wasn't expecting Amber Midthunder either, but it was a pleasant surprise.
I couldn’t wait for this!!
I didn’t know Arden Cho played June! She was perfect
7:26 not you guys thinking he is flying too 🤦🤦 he’s not flying he’s falling with style 😅
20:04 they appear way earlier than season 3
She's a great addition to this channel
Are you talking about Jess?
Daddy Dae Kim also plays Hisashi Sato in Korra.
He’s not flying, he’s falling with style ✨ 7:24
I think Aang could fly then because he was carefree and yet to be told he is the Avatar. After he was told, he lost the ability.
this show was very hit or miss with ppl, i overall enjoyed everything after a huge single day binge watch! my only wish was more of the characters and interactions. i felt like aang wasn’t talking as much as he should and overall the characters could have had more time to interact
You might've scimmed over it. But all the character paintings/drawings are all the animated versions. Just a small Easteregg.
Come on….we all know why the show opened with a comet. The show runners actually came out and said before the show even debuted, “we want to attract the Game of Thrones viewers.”
I don’t see a resemblance. I don’t see how the live action ATLAB could even possibly attract that rabid fan base. I think that’s part of the problem with this show now….the budget wasn’t there for the required production value to compete with a show like the later seasons of GoT. Although I’m not complaining about this show here. I kinda liked it, and my daughters LOVED it. I’ll finish the season this week.
Dont think hes flying . More like falling with style.
Also they mentioned the lion turtles in that scene zhao was trying to find shit on the moon spirit
I was waiting for this ❤
Secret tunnel does not contain more words, I know this because the second my favourite hippies appeared I sang it all word for word right before they did 😅
The BEST breakdown!! Thanks, Jess - you're the best!!
Only complaint I had was not seeing Oppa and MoMo getting into to shit everywhere they went 😂😂
I love the splattered colorful cakes on the floor in the back. Like giyatsu and aang would flip ooff at the mountains over onto the masters
In the anime series are the voice actor in the live action or no like a cameo?
An earthquake can increase their power slightly, similar to a full moon for waterbenders. Also, the earth bender can amplify, and possibly create earthquakes. A large tectonic collision, which is clearly much less frequent than an earthquake, makes an earthbender much more powerful.
So I'm guessing a hurricane or a tornado would power up the airbenders. Although I'm guessing that a hurricane would also power up the water benders
the flamel symbol is more a cross without pointed ends or it's a simple needle, the wings are connected in the middle if it has wings and there is no crown
this is specifically the FMA Flamel with the disconnected wings, pointed cross and crown 19:43
My biggest gripe isn't the bending, it's the face replacement CGI on Aang during Avatar State scenes.
Never do close ups on CGI unless you've the budget to make the CGI PERFECT, which this wasn't.
I felt like they added things they didn’t need to and left out things that should’ve stayed.
Obviously, could’ve told you that before the show aired
All the actors in the zuko storyline killed it for me. Iroh, zhao, ozai, suko himself, even the dude that played gi (gee). My biggest gripe with this was that aang didnt waterbend…. Like at all. Loved the performance of alot of the actors, wasnt the biggest fan of some of the changes. Think they nailed the spirit world stuff tho
With the flying stuff; I totally get how people are put off by it, but if you look, it’s not exactly flight because he has to reach a point to grab onto and get stable again. I think if it was true flight, he’d just be threading the needle through all of those spires nonstop. There’s currents of air that you can see underneath him in the shot over his right shoulder, and then he has to release a blast towards the ground to break his fall. It’s literally falling with style.
I know Amber from Roswell
this scene 5:28 reminds me of a scene from 3×3 Eyes
That was such an awesome anime haven't seen it in years
26:58 for me this also explained why exactly Uncle Irho was always so loyal and loving to Zuko, something that really wasn’t explored or explained in the original series. Other than the fact that they were family, like my family, it’s just what family does. 26:58
Nice to see people agree on uncle irohs perfect casting, literally the best character fr
I loved the themes, principles of responsibilities were heavily remarked. & everyone was grounded in ethics having been through a war
I'm a huge fan of the OG series, and I didn't feel like this show pulled off the accelerated timeline as well as the Live Action One Piece series. Sokka's character is captured perfectly. Iroh and Zuko have the best scenes in the entire show. It's not the OG series, but it has it's strengths and the Fire Nation is surprisingly at the top of the list.
What Aang was doing was very different from what Zahir did tho, you can clearly see he's pushing himself up with air and not just levitating without doing anything
22:38 i dont thinkg guards blades are made from the crystal... I think is just the reflection
GREAT job on this!
Great video, you did an amazing job of pointing out the good and bad without directly hating on the live action, so GG.😅
Why? Why do you keep letting Jessica cover the important stuff?
Pretty sure sokka had some eclipse glasses on in the mechanists shop
7:06 i interpreted this as at the air temples he metions there are currents that they rode and this was that? Kinda like the non benders and the gliders but he can bend the current to ride it kinda like when katara rides a stream or toph makes dirt skates
20:03; season 2 episode 3*
Thank you I thought yall wasn't going to do it. I can't watch anyone else for break down
Airbenders have tornadoes and hurricanes, earthbenders have earthquakes and subsequently volcanic eruption based quakes.
Also, Aang was clearly physically airbending with his body to stay up. He is a psychic bender after all, he doesn't have to move his arms and legs to airbend.
Hot take but the guy who taught kyoshi air bending was so powerful he could create whole storms I think he should get his own series because he trained 2 avatars and single handed took out like 500,000 soldiers
