I like the rubber bumperettes for the simple reason that if you have a minor parking lot fender-bender, you will help mitigate the damage to the other guy's plastic car!
Totally awesome cut on the front bumper! - very tough and aesthetically very pleasing! Make this video easier to find by adding additional simple phrases, e.g. “DYI TJ stock stubby” etc. I had to dig to find this video again after viewing 6 months ago.
I just referenced your vid, which I’ve seen already, because I’m ordering those extended tow hooks and wanted to see if I need to remove the rubber bumper bits that seem to conflict with the hook. Looks like you had no problem, is that right? Great content. Very helpful, thanks
The hooks clear the rubber fine because the winch plate plate spaces them high enough. If the winch plate wasn’t installed there would be a clearance issue
so ive been following you, great stuff.i was wondering how much you raised it and i see you put 1 to 1.25 body bushings.i have a 2" spring lift but want a little more.running 33,s and thinkin about either another inch with bushings undewr frame or on springs. What do you think and what you have besides body lift.it sets lookin good.handles those 33.s you have on there.i bought 2 bumpers, now wishing like you said, time is hard to get,but i need better welder but makin your own bumpers look great and im not happy with spending 500 on 2 bumpers and already want to change them.gotta get welder and well the time cant be bought.great stuff brother.please send some info if you can.
Hey Robert, I have a 1.25" body lift and thats it. Still on stock springs. The jeep might look a little higher because I trimmed the factory flares for better clearance. The jeep is also a 4 cylinder, so maybe it sits a little higher than a 6 cylinder would? I hear you, I don't like how much time I seem to spend making/modifying my own parts but I never seem to be happy enough with any off-the-shelf aftermarket options!
I’m installing a smittybilt winch and I’ve heard suggestions to mount it to the plate first. Did you run into that issue? I believe you have a warn winch so maybe the bolts were easier to access?
Can't help but think Chrysler just threw them on there to satisfy some kind of federal safety requirement, knowing full well that most Jeep owners would remove them.

For a factory bumper it looks so good, great video mate
Thanks!

Thanks, and thanks for the suggestion!
What a great education you're giving us. Impressive set of skills you have there. Thanks for sharing. My TJ or JK is coming soon.
I vote TJ! Good luck with it!

Look into the eag flat fenders. Really cheap and look good.
Already picked up a used set of fenders that need refinishing, but if they don't work out I'll check out the eag set. Thanks for the suggestion!
looks good , i have that same winch plate on the wifes 94 yj looking good
Thanks, hopefully it will hold up well
Looks really good!
Agreed!
Any reasons you didn't cap the ends of the bumper? I imaging that would ad some rigidity to the whole bumper and might be worth it.
That hadn't crossed my mind, will definitely consider it if I ever do this mod again. Great idea.
What is the color of the other Jeep? Gunmetal? Great video.
Correct! Thanks

I’ve never had a smittybilt but the warn mounted easily with the plate installed on the jeep
What did you finally end up doing for the gap between rear bolts and the sway bar mount?
It's in the video.
Where did you get the winch plate from?
Ebay
@@dironaa Do you have the winch plate link? Im reading some dont line up properly
@@steffandemarcay1961 it’s been a while but I think it was “e auto grills” or “eag” brand
Did you spray the bumper pads ? They look better than at first.
No, but I might have cleaned them up with soap and water
What did you end up doing with the sway bar holes ? Did you stack up on washers or use the flimsy rings that came with the plates
I ended up using the flimsy rings because I didn't have the right size washers on hand.
Where did you get the new bolts for the top of the bumper? Also what winch plate is that?
Took the factory bolts down to tractor supply and found a longer version of them. It's the cheapest winch plate I could find on eBay lol
@@dironaa do u know the dimensions of the bolt
Where did the 33's go?
Was troubleshooting driveline vibrations on another Jeep so they were temporarily transplanted. They're mounted back on this Jeep now though.
👍
Those stinking plastic bumper end pieces... I've freed several stock bumpers from their evil presence.
